Yep, I had to remove the headlight to get the battery out to get the plenum removed and several other steps. It was about 20 years ago so I don't remember all the details. Just that it took a really long time.

A 1998 Cadillac Catera. Worst car I ever had. Engine had plenty of power to break the rear wheels loose but just working on it was a real pain. I got rid of it as soon as I had that valve cover gasket replaced.

Yep. Seems as though it would be a pretty quick job. Nope.....dang engineers. And I was wrong about having to remove the battery. That must have been something else. Anyway, I never wanted to do that again. I'll do brakes and starters, replace a pulley or two, serpentine belt, change oil etc but yeah, a valve cover gasket.

Yes Sir. Love my Tundra. And thank you. I got it from a dealer for a song. Had a lot of aftermarket parts on it (rough country vertex suspension w/the remote reservoir shocks,AMP retractable running boards, matching bed cap w carpet etc) and they had no paperwork showing who did the work so to me that means it could have been done by some guy/girl under a tree in the backyard somewhere. Anyway, I got a really smoking deal on it.

They wanted 29,500 for it. Talked them down 8 grand. 21,500. Had an inexperienced salesman to boot. Thing is, I'm not a wheeler/dealer kind of guy. I usually give what people are asking for their stuff and get what people are willing to pay. But this time around I came out with what I think was a great deal. Had it paid off in 2 years.

Likely the valley heat exchanger is leaking. It runs down the back of the engine and down the transmission.

I would not use FelPro gaskets on a Toyota. Use the OE Toyota gaskets. They will fit properly.

Tundras are known to wear tires on the outside edge. Setting the camber to below zero degrees helps. It’s also important to make sure the toe is set perfect. Also installing aftermarket rims that don’t have the factory offset can cause outside tire wear. Lifts can also cause the problem. As the truck is cornering it tends to scrub the outside of the tire. Rotating tires can help slow the wear.

Can anyone recommend a experienced Toyota tech in SW FL, that's not a dealership? I'm desperate for help identifying the cause of a cylinder 3 misfire, P0303. Long story short. Cylinder 3 misfire at 1,500 miles, then 3,800. Truck was checked by Toyota both times with a TA case. Could not pinpoint or id anything and nothing was done since they could not replicate it. Fast forward 3 YEARS, cylinder 3 misfire again in Nov. 2024. 4am on I-95 with family. 36,xxx miles. Dealership in SC could not replicate again. Swapped coils on 1 and 3, nothing. They replaced the coil from cylinder 3 and we drove to FL. March 2025. Happened again. TA case opened again. Toyota dealership had it for 3 weeks and never replicated. All they do is drive it on the computer. Told me if I want it fixed under warranty Toyota wants it replicated for the data because they don't know what to fix and the dealer won't do anything without Toyota authorization. I'm desperate to find someone who can diagnose an engine. I just bought a TOPDON Phoenix Lite 3 to try and start monitoring my self. **I am not a engine mechanic**. I monitored live stream data for cylinder misfires, and misfire margin. Misfire margin was going from 127% to -14%. I saw one misfire on cylinder 2. Percentage drops more when on the accelerator. Report average was 60%. I'm concerned about the crazy range and what I've read on the web. I've lost confidence in driving the truck and concerned about long term damage if not resolved. Also my families safety for road trips. Can anyone point me to someone that could help. I've lost any confidence Toyota can/will help me under warranty.

Updated: Scanned this morning and showing ignition trigger counts drop to 0 under load and misfire margin swing from -30% to 127%.

You never stated the year of your truck and the current mileage. Do you still have warranty left? I thought Florida had a lemon law and after three failed attempts for a repair then a buy back would happen? As for a repair place, Gettel Toyota in Punta Gorda. See Michael Cartelli, service advisor. Very professional and honest. I know you don’t want to go to the dealership but they will have the most resources and the best chance to repair the truck.

2021 with 40,xxx miles. FL lemon law says three or more in 1st 24 months. Had two quick occurrences as stated. Third happened over three years later at 36,xxx. Technically out of warranty. I could chase it possibly but assuming I would lose money and I really want to keep the truck. The two recent episodes in the shop I had being done under warranty due to history. Toyota is not helping much. Not sure if another dealer will want to get involved with the current TA case that was opened. They seem unwilling to resort to old fashion trouble shooting or invest the hours. Dealer is not going to keep trouble shooting unless they are getting paid by Toyota. I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. If root cause can be found probably worth fixing out of pocket unless major. Invest in it or lose more?? That's the 1,000,000 question. There is a gremlin in the truck, just don't know how hard it will be to find. That's why I'm looking for help. I feel I'm at a cross road.

Give Toyota corporate a call and explain your on going issue. Tell them since they have not fixed the issues and are incapable of doing so you would like to bring the truck in to a different dealership. A different set of eyes is what’s needed at this point.

I don’t think that you have to worry about reliability. It’s a nuisance but it’s not doing any harm. Because it’s only on the one cylinder it should be fairly simple to resolve. How does the truck run? Do you even notice anything when it misfires? Some things that can cause the misfire issue on a single cylinder would be 1) a coil 2) a spark plug 3) injector 4) vacuum leak 5) mechanical issue 6) software related.

Since they swapped the coil and I’ll assumed the plug then that eliminates that. I would check if there is a small vacuum leak that could be causing the issue. Also some misfire issues can be eliminated by a software update.

Good morning. My son’s 2008 Tundra 4.7l 2wd has a constant flashing VSC Off light along with a solid traction control light. CEL is NOT on.

What’s the best place to start on this issue. Faulty wheel speed sensors?
