I can't say for sure but I doubt it does. With all the budget issues and stuff I would be surprised, which is why I'm willing to do it Friday's since I don't work.

What could happen at a school that could be worse than a school shooting?

I won’t give an explanation so as not to step into the political rules violations.

I get it, its getting a little political. Something’s gotta be done though.

If I had a choice between a gun-free school or a hardened school with armed (and trained) teachers, I’m choosing the hardened school.

I agree - my point was that the latter don’t really exist anymore.

Meaning, teachers these days will likely be spending the next month in a parade wearing nothing but glitter and hooves and making everyone refer to them as Colonel Sparklepecker. And demanding that your 2nd grader be forced to watch.

Yeah, this is a good concept.... But, I'd be concerned about the selection process of who we are actually arming within the schools. I think we've all seen some behavior logged over the last 3-4 years from some teachers (small percentage or some, but certainly not all) that exemplify mental defects, and I'd hate to see one of them end up armed.

I'd wonder how efficient we could be with volunteers (no financial incentive to the 'job') being placed in the schools after extensive (and I mean extensive) background checks, training and psychological evaluation. I'd think we could find enough stable, skilled and highly trained folks from the military and LE communities and even the civilian population to handle this :notsure:...

Just my .02... I know extensive broadcasting and highlighting of these topics drive emotion and agendas and therefore are at the top of everyone's 'push to report' about (news, media and other social outlets). Therefore it becomes the hot button for someone who wants to be 'glorified', and becomes a way for them to be 'heard or to be impactful, etc.'

If I was a parent, I'd push heavily to have news and the 'glorification' of these incidents minimized. By doing so, there would be a significant reduction in someone w/a mental defect or someone looking to make a statement being heard by taking this path... It would hopefully motivate them to seek other avenues and outlets for their causes (none of which would be good, but better than children and schools)...

As an example of this... Think about the last time any of us have heard about a 'suicide by cop' incident. 10 or so years ago it was a weekly or bi-weekly occurrence throughout the country. Someone wanting to end their own life or to draw attention to themselves or someone looking for a significant reaction by loved ones, etc. were doing so by threatening or carrying out a 'suicide by cop' incident. All of the sudden these incidents and the coverage of these types of incidents fell off the map.... why???

Some of it was because LE learned how to mitigate and prepare for some of these incidents, but my belief is that a larger reason for such a significant drop is that it (SBC) no longer carried the same amount of weight and attention in the media. Similar to the change in ideology about
no longer identifying the suspect(s) by name in reporting on certain incidents.

I get what your saying, seriously, but its not that easy to just decide to homeschool or say fuck it lets move. My wife wants to start working soon and she's just not the homeschooling type of person. I would be open to doing it but the reality is we need the income from me working. Moving is a completely viable option for the situation but places where it would "feel" safer just don't have good schools, or it's a little too small town methy. Not to mention I can't find a job in manufacturing in a small town in the Midwest for example. I get the whole excuses thing but anything can be called an excuse, legit or not. If I was a teacher or nurse or a cop or something then ya I can get up and move tomorrow. No offense to you either but I considered alot before I landed on the precaution of the armor as insurance for an astronomically rare event.

There's also a question of family. All of our family is here. The 1% chance or less of a school shooting is not worth an entire childhood of not seeing their family.

To me this is the same as people saying cops are evil and other similar bs. Ya a few are really bad and cause problems for the 99% that are solid people. Same with teachers. There is not alot of money or fame or power in it for teachers. They do it for their love of education and kids. I've known tons of teachers and I would say the vast majority would jump in front of a bullet for their kids so I'm not worried about them snapping and shooting people.

I really like the idea of armed PTA or something. As stated I plan to do this if I'm allowed. People who have kids at the school they are protecting would be way more trustworthy than even an armed guard or something.

Not even counting possible school shootings, all the other garbage going on in public schools already has me planning to homeschool my kids, but one is 2 years old and the other is two weeks old.

Not trying to get political, but that stuff just doesn’t align with my beliefs is all.

That's legit, but just throwing it out there that they don't hook you up to a mind flayer. You could explain things to kids if there is a teacher or something spewing nonsense. I feel like getting involved heavily early in their schooling or finding a good school can help alot. For myself I transferred my kid from the assigned school to a better one nearby after a good deal of research in their academics.

My kids are in private school. We make many sacrifices to do it. Armed security on school grounds. All exits controlled. A few of the teachers carry, too. They also train.

We protect public buildings (courthouses, legislatures, etc) and major public events (concerts, football games, etc) with armed security who control all exits. We should do the same for the buildings our kids sit in all day. They're worth the same level of safety govt officials enjoy and that we all enjoy at sporting events. Not saying that it's 100% effective all the time, but it obviously beats advertising them as completely unsecure.

No, actually it isn't blown out of proportion. I had a teacher this year asking my oldest daughter what her pronouns are (and wouldn't let off). She said "Brooke and you can refer me as a female". Then this teacher and I had a different conversation privately.

For my money, I would rather see LEO's in public schools and there is a reason I feel that way. One of the engineers I worked with for several years was a HS teacher for 8 years. She was 5'1" on a good day and maybe weighed 100 lbs wet. My 14 year old daughter is 5'5" and 100 lbs. It wouldn't take much to overpower this teacher and take her weapon. There's a reason prison guards that are inside the fence do not have holstered weapons. It's like 200 to 1. Now in the towers, roving patrols, and special operations response teams have some sort of weapons and have lethal rights.

Most of these teachers do not want to carry weapons and I am 100% behind them if they do not. I feel the same way about anyone that doesn't want to carry a weapon...you shouldn't.

I wish most of these kids would go home and talk to their parents about what they see/hear. Problem is, many don't have anyone who'd listen so they don't. It's also a sad reality that many kids see other kids act in ways you'd not believe on such a regular basis that they've just come to accept it as normal. If they should happen to be asked how their day was, they'd sincerely say "fine".

We are the parents you want. I give our teachers my personal email and phone number. At any time if they are disrespectful, or not performing in class they are to call us and it will be resolved by the next day. Period. Teachers have one of the most important jobs without a lot of support.

Kids today are so disrespectful and out of control. I'm pretty sure 80% have never had a 10.5" shoe come in contact with their ass hard enough to lift the heals of their shoes off the ground. I have kicked two kids out of my house and made them wait for their parents outside by the fence line. Fuck'em.

    You are.

I've had more parents come up to me and say they wished their kid was in my class than run over to my principal to complain about how I run my class (that's happened more than once). My principals have had my back on 2 different campuses because when they had students no one else wanted to teach, they'd stick em in my room and that kid was taken in with open arms. I never balked and never refused. I looked forward to it and they ended up learning more than just Math.

I'm 48, and it just boggles my mind how things have changed. I used to bring guns to school to show my principle what I was going to get "the big one" that year. Yes the bolt was left at home, but it was not big deal. Hell, my first full auto weapon that I held and shot was at school (shot off campus). If kids had a problem with each other they talked it out or worked it out at the local park. I had my own pistol at 16 and full access to the weapons in the house. I have talked to my kids about guns and showed them how to handle them.

Hell, I trust my oldest more with an AR than driving the tractor. Now that scares me. :eek2:

Why not utilize the military to protect schools? Between active duty, reserve, National Guard, etc, there’s a couple million people trained better than any teachers could ever be. I feel like a good percentage of those could be diverted from the nonsense they’re used for now.

I know it’s not as simple as that seems, but in my opinion it’s something to think about. I’d bet it would help with recruiting also. Seems like more people would join if they knew they were more likely to be defending our kids than for their lives to be risked serving the whims and interests of politicians.

Good for you sir. I plan on doing the same, my kids are very little but I try to encourage them to talk as much as possible, even though it bites me in the ass sometimes and they just go like the energizer bunny lol.

I feel like that would require a level of recalculation of priorities so high that protecting schools would be the last thing they would use the military for if they started considering them for more "non military" or not just for emergency use.

Kinda building off the armed PTA or volunteers in general idea, similar to retired people who volunteer as community service officers, I am sure there would be plenty of bored retired people or vets that would love to post up at a school and keep watch and get a great feeling of fulfillment.
