What time? We couldn’t make it to the mansion last time I was there - the wash was full of boulders the size of compact cars and we took a gnarly alt route over a mountain to the south only to hit a private property gate like a half mile away from the mansion.

Also waiting to see what Mo has going down south.

I was maybe 11ish. Damn, the Mansion is what I was really interested in.

Didn't make Rice Peak. Made it the first switchback with the turn around sign. It was definitely a tight turn. We went through a few other switchbacks, that were definitely tight. It was an hour ago, 4pm. Figured we better turn around and get back to bottom before dark. Made it back really quick. Definitely takes longer than I was thinking it would. It would be cool to do a group run. Wasn't over grown to where we made it, but definitely fairly narrow.

You must have been really close to the top. I’ve heard the switchbacks are pretty much the end… definitely on the list for the winter. I planned to scout it in the sxs but sounds like you did the dirty work.

It looked like we were still a ways away, according to OnX. There seems to be two different routes up to a certain point. Then they converge into a single route. Appears to be more switchbacks after that. I'm not sure if we went the harder or easier way. I didn't do much research other than watching a group of Jeeps going up on YouTube.
Really beautiful, thinking of going back next week, Monday or Tues in the Wrangler. SxS is probably even more ideal. The switchback we got to is probably a 20 point turn in a Tundra.

Got a little trail damage, haha. I know I hit on the skids and possibly the rear end a few times too. I haven't climbed under to see yet.

Haha, oh for sure! Straight to the junkyard!

I was pondering selling those wheels (they were 100% perfect) and getting something in 8.5, but I guess the value just dropped substantially. Oh well, guess I will keep them

There is always someone looking for a matching spare, so I’m sure you could sell the good ones at a normal price and discount the mall crawler curb rashed one a little cheaper.

True. I'm torn because they are probably my favorite wheel, but the 8" width and offset is kind of limiting

That’s why I ended up going with aftermarket wheels. Hard to find someone that will install 35s on an 8-wide.

    Yep.
will probably just end up doing 285/75. There's some decent wider ones out. Maxxis looks the widest at 11.8. That's the same as my 295/70. Although SOL if I want 37's

Got to the top of Rice Peak this afternoon, only in the Wrangler. Beautiful trail, amazing views. It actually didn't take all that long, about 2.5 hours bottom to top and back down.
Definitely wasn't overgrown. Definitely rocky, steep, and narrow towards the top. I know it's doable in a Tundra, but it'd be TIGHT on some cliffs. Would be a fun group run. I don't know if I will/would solo it, having someone to watch the cliff edges would be beneficial. There's really only one section that might be a little troublesome. The Wrangler handled it fine, but I was worried about stalling and sliding back down, so I stayed on the gas and bounced real close to the edge. The wife got a little scared, lol.

The weird reverse switch backs are a trip! I bet the jeep could do those just normal.
It took us way longer than I expected for how short of a climb it is, but it’s no joke!

@AZBoatHauler does it get closed down like the control road? Or usually open?

It stays open - the gate is further up the control road.

The picss of course don't do it justice. You'll have to get up there. Should be easy in your SxS.

Saw some fresh bear poop, too. Unfortunately, no bear.

Lots of seeds. And a good sized pile. At least I think it was bear poop. I'm no expert, that's for sure. Could have been from the woman hiking the Arizona Trail, too.

In the Chiricahuas, it’s almost like they are showing off, and always in the same area(the bears, not the az trail trash) we definitely saw two freshies 3 days apart with a totally different make up of food hahahaha, im no expert either but that was my logical assumption, I love assuming!!!!

I just looked up bear poop. Definitely what it was.
I never saw a bear in the Chiricahuas, but a few years ago I was just starting hiking nup and people came running down, saying the bear was up there. Figured I should turn around.

Yesterday we started doing the trail to Jackson Cabin from the Muleshoe Ranch, in the Galiuro Mountains. Thats beautiful out there, too. Probably go back tomorrow. It took way longer then I thought.
Supposedly lots of bears in the Galiuro 's too.
