    Hey there

Yeah, you're likely dealing with some significant arthritis, and moving will help decrease inflammation in the joints. However, that works to a point. If there is significant joint wear, cartilage erosion, or cartilage damage, then too much walking can become detrimental. A good oral joint supplement can help for awhile. Cosaquin is about the best, and Costco sells it for pretty cheap. It comes in a chewable tablet, so most dogs view it as a treat. It can sometimes do wonders, but eventually it will stop working because osteoarthritis is a progressive disease. We can't cure it, we can only delay its progression.
In addition, Staffies are the most common breed I see for ruptured cruciate ligaments in the knee (like an ACL in people). In dogs, however, it is a progressive disease, and usually not the result of an injury. The fibers in the ligament will deteriorate and form a small tear that will end up fully rupturing at some point. When that happens is anyone's guess. But he could have a single or bilateral cruciate tear or rupture causing the difficulties with stairs. There are a couple of quick tests your vet can do to diagnose this. I do surgical correction of these all the time. Ruptured cruciates can be mistaken for hip or back arthritis. Talk to your vet about it, but also feel free to IM me. I could type a book concerning arthritis and ruptured cruciates, but let's stop there for now.

A few days ago my female pug pooped while on a walk. I noticed some white things in her poop, my wife mentioned that she gave them some rice the day before so I disregarded it. Yesterday she pooped and I saw the same, this time she hadn't had any rice. I got curious and examined closer, the things look to be tapeworms or their ejected... things.

I'm going to contact our vet to have her and her poop checked out. I read a bit and it seems like they'll give some sort of shot or take home meds. Here is where my questions start.

    1) I have two pugs, my male was dewormed and had all his shots on time. I haven't examined his poop but should I get him treated as well? He doesn't eat poop but he does have a habit of licking her pee (don't judge).

    2) I understand that what I'm seeing are segments of the worm that fall off. The real worm(s) may be very big. What happens when the dog is treated? Will the big worm(s) be pooped out?

    Thanks.

Hello we have a 2 year old long hair chihuahua she is about 3 lbs. she had puppies in October everything went well all the puppies are now sold but we noticed she has lost alot of hair. Any reason for this? She eats great tons of energy sleeps like normal. Just curious what would cause so much hair loss. She’s not like bald but defiantly super thin coat now.

Not a vet, so take with a grain of salt, but I would deworm both. The tapeworm shot is the only shot (or anything at the vet) that has ever made my stoic little princess cry out. :( It must be unpleasant because she was fine with them manipulating her knee after she completely destroyed it. Still, gotta do what is best for them and they blame the vet for the pain, not you. So far as I know the worms will just die and be processed out of the digestive tract.

My 13 year old terrorer (sic) has been taking this for a few months. Same thing with the back end getting weak. If being able to climb on the sofa is a good indicator, it’s helped her.6B603E16-AF2E-4E57-86B3-99E5B820DF60.jpg

    Hey
Your vet should give an injection of Droncit for tapeworms. I would get your other pug the injection as well. I would also treat them for fleas because a tapeworm requires fleas to complete its life cycle. Once you get rid of the tapes, make sure to keep them on flea preventative. Prevent fleas and you won't get tapeworms. Tapes can get big, but they will break up once you give them the injection. Might still see segments for a few days, but that should be it.

    Hey
Probably thin due to hormonal and energy changes from the demand of having puppies. Just have your vet double check her skin to make sure there isn't another reason. It will probably grow back, just might be slow. As long as she's acting healthy, I wouldn't worry. Pregnancy and lactation are a huge energy requirement in dogs.

Interesting, thanks for that. My male has been on a flea/tick prevention. The female we got pretty recently and haven't got her on it yet, good time to get that going as well.

One of our dogs, an American Staff Terrier, loves to throw up anytime he’s in a vehicle. Anything you recommend so we can take him to the groomers and such?

    Hey
You can always try dramamine an hour before car rides. Dramamine comes in 25 and 50mg tablets, and the dose is 2-4mg/lb. So, a 12lb dog would get 1/2 - 1 tablet of the 50mg

Our smallest one (3yo. Mini pin) has been a PITA these past few weeks. We take her outside before we head to bed (9/10P) she’ll wake me up usually around 11P to take her out, again. A few times during the week, she’ll wake one of us up a second time between 3-4a to take her out. Any idea what gives?

    Hey there!

I am out of town and my wife just sent me these images. He is a 15 month old golden and just finished a bout of canine papilloma about a month and a half ago.

But this looks different. And I can’t really find anything affirmatively similar online.

    Any suggestions?

Sorry, kinda doing a copy paste thing via multi-quote from another thread after being pointed this direction. @jaredmillerdvm, @Kerch71, either of you have any guidance?

Hey there, it is hard to say but sounds like it could be a seizure. Seizures starting at an older age are more likely to be lesions in the brain. Less commonly one on her pancreas called an insulinoma. Epilepsy is on the list also. Without an MRI or CT it is hard to rule out the cause but you can start with routine labs and move forward with diagnostics. If she begins having them more frequently I would get her seen and started on seizure meds. Wish I could be more help.
