Hey Guys, with multiple people getting surveys about the Tundra, and the slight possibility that Toyota may look at this site for market research, I thought it would be good to have a thread dedicated to constructive feedback for our beloved Tundra, NASA's first choice in towing! Please keep this section free of shenanigans and keep the feedback constructive and realistic.

    I'll start:
    - Efficiency: We would like the seemingly impossible of maintaining our 5.7 V8, 4.30 gears, and at least our current power level, but with higher MPG. The thought of cylinder deactivation is troublesome, but an extra overdrive gear or two above our current 6 speed top gear may be the answer.

    - A mechanical Limited Slip Differential: the electronic one is absolutely useless in inclimate weather, boat launch ramps, off road, in mud, etc.

-Continuity amongst vehicles in the lineup: I rented a 2017 SR5 4Runner that had auto up and down on all 5 windows, but my 2018 SR5 Tundra does not have auto up and down on any window. The 2018 SR Tacoma has one quick touch to the traction control off button to turn all the traction control and vehicle assists, whereas the Tundra button needs to be held for a long period of time to do the same (at least on the 2018 Tundra, on the prior years it is more of a special code, series of nods and handshakes to do the same).

    - Driving modes: It would be great to have selectable drive modes. For instance: Off Road, Sport [for passing ;-) ;-)], Economy (for MPG), Tow/Haul, Snow/Rain

Lighting: We love the LED headlights, so let's go ahead and make all lights on the Tundra LED.

Chrome: Very few people like the chrome, and I mean very few, so let's make it the expensive upgrade to get rather than to delete it.

I like your style Ike! I would like the stereo system to be awesome in the new Tundras just like in my 08 SR5 . JBL six disc with nine speakers and a sub. Or the newer equivalent. As it is now it sounds like guys have spend 1200 to 2500 just to get it where it was before? Let’s move forward ,not backwards. Offer the TRD supercharger again with full factory warranty if installed by authorized dealer. TRD Pro in six color choices and more readily available with supercharger as an option for 5k more. F to the raptors! Peace. D

On that note, I would love to see a TRD pro be an actual challenger to the Raptor. Something that could win a Baja 1000 in stock form . . .

How about a true "Grade" version. No carpet, basic radio, minimal nannies, 8/10 speed tranny, huge V8 with real up to date mpg's, Auburn LSD, mechanical roll up/down windows, bench seats. Basically a version for DIYers../contractors, white only.

I know there is a Grade offered now. Would like to see one offered with premium drive train but comes with stripped down electronics/tech and basic interior. No shenanigans. This was and still is offered by other makers. I believe Dodge offers a basic RAM, diesel I think, that can be ordered with a manual transmission. For years all truck mfrs offered numerous variants for customers to choose from for their specific needs.

I'll add to it. Upfitter switches or at least that's what Ford called it on the Superduty. Some had 10amp fuses, a couple had larger fuses. Should be standard on 4wd.

Because it's something I notice every time I drive the Tundra, I'd say my biggest gripe is the poor sound quality from the stereo. For the cost of the stereo, I thought it would be at least decent.

Put back features which used to be standard but were removed or made options on the Gen 3 models. The driver’s side Oh Shit handle and the awesome Gen 2 rear seat come to mind. My 2008 SR5 had both. My 2016 SR5 has neither. It’s just dumb to be removing standard features when others are adding them.

Replace current 6 speed with Toyota's Direct Shift-8AT or Direct Shift-10AT
With more gears reduce 4.30 to something lower
Reduce weight through increased use of high strength steel in the frame
With weight reduced in the truck, increase the payload
Hopefully those changes would see 1-2 MPG increase.
Replace infotainment with what we're seeing the 2019 corolla/rav4 (3.0 Entune with apple carplay)
Flat rear floor and underseat storage.

Those would be my main wishes.

It exists, but you'll have to special order it as dealers don't keep it in stock. It's called the work truck package. It has a vinyl floor and a vinyl front bench seat. There's no center console. You don't even get intermittent wipers, but that's easily rectified. And it's only available in white.

I don’t think this is the case.
I thought you had to hold down the traction control button in a Tacoma to completely turn it off.

For me I’d say storage under the seats and better mpgs.

At least 500 lbs more payload (tow rating is pointless if you can’t carry the tongue weight), 21st century lights, lose the whip antenna, and make a decent sounding stereo with CarPlay.

Better sound system - I personally don't mind the head unit, but it needs to be improved with a more powerful amp and corresponding speakers.
Easy disable for the seatbelt chime. (Not all of us want to hear it on the way to the mailbox, and I shouldn't have to TechStream it or slip a 20 to my service guy to have it disabled). I could kill it on my Tacoma - just sayin'.
Seems like most everyone on this forum lifts or at least levels their trucks out the gate - maybe offer a trim level factory configured that way as an option since Pro levels are harder to come by, or just make more TRD Pro's...

It seems like there are a lot of folks looking for a basic truck and there are also a lot of folks looking for a pimped out truck with all of the bells and whistles. Everyone seems to want a reliable, less expensive and more powerful truck that gets better mileage and, at the same time, can haul more shit. Seems like a tall order for the companies that actually make trucks. That said, the Tundra does seem to lack a few features that are pretty standard these days, especially considering that the Tacomas have a lot of the features that the Tundra lacks - it seems odd that the Tundra doesn't have those same features.

Option for bench seat with more trim levels.

    38 gal tank...standard

    Bring back driver’s grab handle.

Don’t change the drive train. I’ll take borish reliability over a couple more mpg’s any day. I don’t own a truck to save gas.

Locker or at least a really good LSD (the real kind).

Better rear springs. The 9800# tow limit on my CM is fine with me but the 1265# payload is weak.

I like the old amber DRL’s better than the new led’s.

Don’t ever try to turn it into an F150. Stick to what works.

    Dear Toyota:

I understand you'll eventually be forced to do some type of fuel efficiency upgrade to this truck to keep up with the changes your less reliable competitors have made. That said, please be careful that you don't do to the Tundra what you did the Tacoma. You know exactly what I'm talking about.
