It is an inconvenience, however, I will take the free work. Some of the recalls don’t seems like a big deal to me, the fuel line and cover for instance. I had another tundra allotted last year that sat forever for the parking brake recall, so it can be a pain. I ended up passing on that one after it sat in the rail yard for like 4 months.

I had a GMC that I got rid of because the power steering would go out say when you’re doing 80 on the interstate. So I found out there was a recall for those on-a very small amount of trucks, and if your VIN wasn’t in it, tough luck. In my estimation that was a short sighted way of doing business. They didn’t care enough about my safety to fix it, so I had to shell out 2k to get it repaired (with the same crappy part mind you). Now I happen to love GM trucks, but they lost a customer due to that (also at that time every other 5.3 and 6.2 was eating lifters). I would only consider maybe half the trucks they build these days.

If Toyota wants to give me a new Tonneau cover and an upgraded fuel line, then I will let them. The alternative in my experience is much worse. It would be nice if it didn’t happen to begin with, but $hit happens, it’s all on how you deal with it.

I love my Platinum, best truck I've ever owned! Buying a new gen. truck with the redesign and all its new tech can be risky.....there are going to be issues / problems with recalls and TSB's issued and as they pop up you take the truck in to get it fixed (under warranty). I would buy another 23 Tundra in a heartbeat, no hesitation. It's a great truck, just make sure you get the one you want, don't settle......good luck!

    2023 double cab, base engine.
I’ve only owned a few months but do have a 1100 mile trip on it. Everyone has very different uses, this just relates to me. Don’t get but hurt.

Great power and great power requires plenty of fuel
Seat kills my ADZ on long trips (>1.5 hours)
Rides and responds VERY well to driver inputs
Hate the plastic truck bed, I would pay $2000 more for a metal bed.
Would like a flat floor under the rear seats
I use my bed a lot, the loading height seems to get higher every year, not good for me.

The engine is complex, a lot of speculation on both sides. Time will let us know how that plays out, the field is not the same as an engineers computer screen and data. I’ve seen trucks used in situations that engineers couldn’t even comprehend.

The fuel leak issue is not a serious issue at all. Yeah, I know it sounds bad, but they found a place where the fuel line might potentially rub through and they are fixing that before it happens. That can happen on any car, anywhere between the fuel tank and engine. Toyota taking care of the issue is a much bigger plus than it happening without any action.

I have read a lot of threads on this site and some other websites and facebook groups. I have found that the majority of the people who complain about the 3rd gen are then ones who do not own one. Go figure. 2nd most complains are the ones who complain about a recall for a bed cover, which most don't have equiped, or a fuel line that Toyota is taking care of before it might become a potential isolated issue. Most other manufacturers have recalls for engines and transmissions that blow up or brakes that fail.

I would say, if you want to upgrade, then upgrade. That's what I have done, and many other happy owners on this site. I don't regret it at all.

A different view than many: I love the storage area under the rear seat of my crewmax non-hybrid. That was one feature that drew me to a Tundra. It’s a great space for tow straps, tie down straps, snow scraper, rags, tools, guns, hats, etc. and my dog kennel just sits right on top of it with the seat folded up.

I agree, I also like the storage cubbies on my DC. It's maybe a little harder to access in that tighter space of a DC. Hard to get the seat bottom out of the way. But it saves me from having to install a SwingCase in the bed for that stuff.

My 2 big dogs were bummed about the under rear seat storage. On my 2015, I could fold the seats up and it provided a large relatively flat area for the dogs to hang out. And it was an easy jump into the truck for them. Now, my 2023 has a doggie hammock that drapes over the seats. It's a much higher jump for the dogs, and it isn't as comfortable for them.

I do like the extra storage, though.

C'mon, man, use the proper term: Car-B-Q. I just crawled under mine and I believe I found the tube in question and didn't see any way for it to chafe. See post in the other thread. I might not have had the right tube and the right location but it fits the description. And if were to leak here, I don't see how it could leak bad enough to burn before you would otherwise notice it.

Most of you probably aren't old enough to remember the infamous Ford Pintos in the '70s that would literally explode into a fireball if they were rear-ended, even at low speeds. 27 people died and countless others were badly burned in Pinto fires. It took Ford over 8 years, and millions of dollars worth of lawsuits, to finally recall 1.5 million Pintos to correct the problem.

I think Toyota is handling this minimal fire risk pretty well. And it appears the most recent builds aren't affected by this recall, so they've clearly come up with a fix to the problem. I'm not sure why they've pushed it out to October to fix the defective trucks. Probably supply chain issues just like everything else.

Just remember that somewhere at Toyota is someone calculating whether it'd be cheaper to pay out on a class action lawsuit or fix 168,000 Tundras. I'm not saying they're not handling it well, but ultimately the only reason they opted to fix it was that it was cheaper than fighting it in court. The auto industry learned this from the Ford fiasco.

168,000 trucks may seem like a large number, but it pales in comparison to some of the largest recalls of other manufactures. Check out this article about the 10 worst auto recalls in history.

The number of vehicles isn't the point. It's the fact that Toyota isn't doing this because of loyalty or kindness. They're doing it because it's cheaper than going to court.

I'm don't think anyone claimed they were doing out of "loyalty or kindness". Obviously, they are doing it for legal liability reasons, just like most recalls.

My point is, Toyota seems more vigilant in addressing recalls than most auto manufactures, who often take years to commit to a recall, and only after they are forced to by regulatory agencies.

At least Toyota is a being pro-active here. And IF my truck catches fire, I'll be looking at a new 24 at Toyota expense.

Well now that they announced a fix then the manufacturer shall send out notice to registered owners of these affected vehicles....

Their liability of not getting it repaired asap is up to the owners of the vehicle which they cannot force to do. Only request.

I have a 19 4runner that had an electical issue. No mods. Truck had a minor fire by the battery. Toyota reviewed the vehicle and said we dont thing we have to fix it... your problem. I even had video of it happening. Didnt care.
I own a Tundra and while Toyota Customer Service blows I didnt like any other truck out there. So far my 2023 is running great. No issues so far. Did first oil change and photo documented it. Only thing I did to it was change the tires to proper wildpeaks. Yokohama Geolandar X-CV that came with my 1794 were laughable.

I was on the fence with getting a RaptorR in Antimatter Blue. (want the v8 5.2)
Not a big ford fan but love the look, color and features. $112,185 was the price I was looking at and am sure stealers are working the numbers slightly north of msrp.

funny how people are saying its a cost benefit analysis. never mind that safety related issue's are required by law (i think) to have recalls.

Anybody that buys a COMPLETELY new design of truck and doesn’t expect to have recalls and TSBs is not looking at it correctly IMO.
    It’s going to happen.

It seems to me Toyota has been really good about getting the issues out and correcting them.

Year three or four and this GEN should be dialed in.

lol you do realize that 99% of the population could care less about or even know what a tsb or recall is on a vehicle.

ie: if it wasnt for me or this forum, my wife could care less about that when buying a vehicle. all she see's, ooooo i want that one.

mine has been doing that since our 2006 tacoma. still cant break her of seeing one and she is locked on it regardless of specs. even when i tell her she wont like it in 6 months because of interior creature comforts.

My '20 Tacoma had multiple recalls, and that was a few years into the 3rd gen. I do not think there have been many, if any, vehicles that have had no recalls.

A 22? Used truck? I would rather go for a 23. Fixes and updates do matter. What the cost differential between used and new on the updated Tundra?

It could be a deal and it couldn't Depends on how the salesperson spins it.

I'm sure out the door with trade in etc its an attractive price. I would seperate the deal out a little more.
How much are they asking for the 2022 truck with 24k on the clock?
How much would a new one with similar options be? I mean a vehicle with zero miles and full warranty is attractive.
Trade in value is going to be similar to both. I know in NY when you trade in a vehicle the tax value of the trade in gets deducted from taxes on the new vehicle.
Not sure what incentived toyota has right now but they are generally only available on new vehicles.

I have had a few friends that sold their cars to Carvana or Carmax. They got more money on their old vehicle that what the dealer offered.
See what they offer you get for the vehicle..... no commitments at all.

BTW I went to Greensburg PA for my truck. Corey is a salesmanager at that Toyota dealership and was great to deal with.
He's also a member on here and posts inventory all the time.
