So I've had a 2007 Tundra, nine years and not a single issue. I have a 2016 GMC Sierra, seven years and not a single issue. I really like the look of the new Tundra and thought I was getting ready to purchase one in the next week or two. But with some of the failures I keep reading about I want to make sure I'm making a right decision. Bar none, reliability is the only thing that really matters to me in a vehicle. I couldn't care less about the tech, well I do like the vented seats, but would give those up for worry free ownership.

Now I realize a good deal of social media input is people wanting to complain about problems, and I'm not down playing their issues. But often times people that are satisfied with something will usually not post about it.

So I guess that is what I'm looking for, some positive feed back.

    Thanks,

I think the Tundra is still the best option for a full size truck. Only time will tell on longevity for reliability but I think it’ll hold up as pretty much all cars make it to 200k-ish these days if you take care of them. You’re on a forum where people come to complain so everything seems skewed. I bet most owners are very happy with their truck.

I don't even have 1000 miles on mine yet, but I absolutely love it.

It is comfortable, rides amazing, has a ton of power and all the new technology is awesome.

Yes, I understand the forum and skewed part, and I'm sure some people have legitimate issues. That's most social media. Guess I'm looking for further feedback to make sure I'm making the right choice. I generally keep my vehicles for a few years and want the best option. Thanks,

I love my 23 Tundra so far. I've had it since April...the only real negative I have so far is the remote start capability (which is generally standard on most other trucks), is by subscription on Toyota's after the first year free.

I’ve had my ‘22 tundra since may of ‘22 and absolutely love it. It has less than 5000 miles because I don’t drive much but would recommend it to anyone. It’s a huge upgrade on interior and tech from the previous gen. My only real complaint is wind noise on the drivers side window but everything else is perfect.

I’ve never owned another Toyota and I compared it to the F150 when purchasing. The tundra had more features within the same price range and with it being a Toyota, I’m hopeful it’ll be less problematic.

I’m happy with my truck. 31k after 17 months. Just did oil change myself last week and looks like it hasn’t burn any. No engine problems. Yes info has glitch but you just have to let the software updates happen. It’s automatically happens and the screen will black out a few times. Platinum 2wd non Hy.

I'm going to give you as unbiased of an answer as I can here...

If the above statement is true: You've had no issues with your 07 Tundra and trouble-free ownership is your #1 priority, then stick with your truck. It's a known quantity and sounds like a sure bet. And, I would say that regardless of whatever your current vehicle was. If you haven't had issues with your current vehicle and you don't care much about gadgets & gizmos, just keep it.

This is not a "New Tundra" problem, but more of a "modern vehicle" problem. Every vehicle is getting more and more complex. You're going to run into some quirks and issues. The likelihood of something happening statistically increases the more complex a system becomes. That's just a mathematical fact. If you're the type of person that is going to get worked up at small things and say, "This is $50k/$60k/$70k/$80k truck and this [insert small problem here] shouldn't be happening!" then don't buy any modern vehicle. People today want perfection, and they'll never get it...regardless of how much money they spend.

Ok...I'm off the soap box. haha.

I totally agree with you here. People want to complain nowadays more than they want to praise. A post about an issue, especially if it's something big like an engine failure, will get hundreds of posts/comments. A post talking about how much fun someone had off-roading or giving a roadtrip review might get a quarter of that. It's just human nature.

I'll tell you what I told another new(er) forum member who was considering purchasing a 3rd Gen:

"Have I had issues with my 3rd Gen? Sure. I've had wind noise, my seat panel is cracked, the infotainment system was very quirky in the beginning, my truck had the random "knock" at startup until I had the TSB performed, and my fuel gauge every once in a blue moon thinks I got a free tank of gas (getting that TSB done at my next service appt). Do I still love my truck? Yup and I have a ton of fun with it. As evidenced by my build thread: Duster's Double Cab Build - The Daily Do-it-All." BTW...for additional context...I have a very early build. My build date is 11/21 and I took delivery of my truck on 12/15/21. It happened (by pure luck) to be the first 3rd Gen Tundra delivered to a customer at my local dealer. So, I really took a chance by being a super early adopter.

From a pure "truck" perspective, I've owned three F-150s and one Tacoma. The Tundra is hands down the best truck I've ever owned. If someone told me they had to purchase a new truck today, I would absolutely recommend the new Tundra.

I love my '23 1794 hybrid CM w/5.5 box w/TRD OR - I got it end of Nov '22 - and now have 7500 miles on it. It started getting better mileage around 4-5k - and now I regularly see 19-21 mpg with it around town. I've had a '00 SR5 4.7L dblcab TRD OR 6.5box (150k miles after 11 yrs), and an '11 SR5 5.7L dblcab trd or 6.5 box(132k miles after 11 yrs) - and really like this iteration of Tundra. It rides so much nicer then these prior two and the interior is a huge improvement. I pull the same boat (an '07 21' Searay bowrider with a dbl axle trailer w/surge disc brakes- about 6500 lbs) across all 3, the '00 did it, but struggled a bit on take offs and braking was always suspect on that model. The '11 towed it without much issue and braking was much improved. The '23 tows it as easy, maybe even easier then the '11 and braking seems great so far.

I love my ‘22, though I’m concerned about the whole it might catch fire thing that’s come about in the last 24 hours.

hell ya, so far this is the nicest truck I have ever owned.

super quiet, rides AWESOME, fun to drive (boost), and the 10 speed is great. Love all the tech and auto bed step, etc.

interior of the platinum is really sweet, love the blue stitching and blue ambient lighting on a blue truck, and black headliner

    hell, here it is, HA

I'll give you a brief apples to apples here. I too had a 2007 Limited DC. I loved that truck, and I spent years continually talking myself out of trading it in. In the end age was starting to show too much for my liking and the new prices kept going up, and I finally forced myself forward. My 2023 Platinum is better in every way. I've only had it less than 2 months and 1,700 miles, but I love it. Honestly, the only things I miss about the 2007 are the sentimental attachment and the extra sun visor my 2007 had.

As already mentioned, everything fails eventually. Some earlier than others, and the more complex it is the higher the chances something will fail. Though keep in mind they will continue to get even more complex and more expensive as the years go by. Look how much the base prices have gone up just in the last 2 years. Buying at the end of June, settling on cheaper color, essentially saved me $2,500 after the 2024 prices were announced.

My experience after one year and 10K miles...
This is a great truck. I've had many vehicles, including F-150's, a couple of Tacomas, and even a Ridgeline. Hands down, this is my favorite so far. And, it's been as reliable as all the others except the Fords... way more than those. I can't think of a new vehicle that I've owned that hasn't had a recall or two. I did buy an extended warranty just because of the electronics though.
Comfortable, easy driving, plenty of power, and capable. Couldn't be happier with this truck!

I have 17000 miles on mine and the only part about it I don't like is the cargo carrying capacity but I knew that it was going to be limited. I put airbags on it and 99.9% of the time, its a great truck.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
I bought the Pro and every time I read about problems from owners, it's usually all the other models (low end to platinums) and especially those with non-hybrids. Buy once, cry once was my justification.

My Pro brings a smile to almost every trip I take - and I am not a frequent smiler.

I have a 2022 1794. Prior to this I had a 2019 Pro (I do miss that truck), and a 2001 first gen. All of them have been excellent trucks but my 1794 is my favorite so far. My only real complaint with it is the 1300lb payload capacity and it's not really a complaint, I just wish it were a couple hundred pounds higher. That being said, it is the most comfortable a capable half ton I have ever owned and I am quite satisfied with my purchase.

Ditto on all the above except I don't really like the "groundhog day" aspects like you have to reset the auto shut/off start (on my Audi you only have to shut it off once) and the A/C every time you start the truck.

I've had my first Tundra a 23 TRD Off-Road Limited now for less than 2 weeks and it's all been positive so far. I still have a few things to figure out like a message I keep getting on my display asking me if I want to adjust my seat. It is not even broken in yet but I will be taking it for the first voyage (200 miles round trip) on Monday to go golfing in the USA with 3 of my buddy's. Going to see how it does mileage wise with 4 people and 4 sets of golf clubs in the box!

Let me actually answer the question, since I only marginally did so above.

I’ve had my ‘22 since March, 2022. I have 31k miles on it. Among other things, it’s been from Arkansas to the Rockies and back, crawled up a couple of 4x4 roads, and it’s hauled a pallet of sod that it likely had no business hauling, but it handled it like a champ.

A few rattles that bug the heck out of me… and two instances where the fuel gauge took at least 15 minutes to move off of empty after a fill-up… but that’s it for issues (knock on wood).

The truck is much more powerful and gets better gas mileage than my 2015. I hope it proves to be as reliable, because I love driving it.

Your pro is just as likely to have a problem as an SR, perhaps even more so because of the added complexity from all the added features the pro has. The reason you read about problems in the lower trims is simply because there are way more of them. All that isn't to say Pros aren't awesome, because they totally are, and you totally deserve to enjoy your truck.

Nobody is saying this, but we still have random bearing failure issue with broken trucks get posted on this forum weekly - see sticky thread about engine failures.

We still don't know why this is happening and which trucks are affected. So far we've seen couple 2023 trucks engine fail as well, so this issue isn't just limited to the early build trucks.

If you can, wait another half year or so and watch this forum to make sure these bearing failure issues stop happening to newer build trucks - mid-late 2023 build.
