Agree. Let’s give Toyota the benefit of the doubt until we have data that says we shouldn’t. I’m curious if they go back to having an external cooler on the new Tundra coming out next year.

If that happens, there'd be no reason for me not to get into a 3500.

Don't be too hasty...it'll take a long time for Tundra to get down to parity with the competition. :D

Well, I fully expect my current truck to last me 15 years, even without a transmission cooler. :fingerscrossed: But, as we were talking about in another thread, as my family grows I may exceed the payload on my truck unless I can find a trailer as big as and with all the features my wife wants but still within the truck's (and my) capability to tow.

As I understand it from lurking here for some time, 2018 and older Tundras did not exactly have a transmission cooler. They did have engine coolant circulated through the transmission though, that kept transmission temps lower than '19's and '20's. There is a lengthy thread on the topic here.

I can't blame you there. Honestly, if my '03 Ram 2500 with a Cummins hadn't started to give me reason to doubt it, I wouldn't be here right now. So, I guess I'm kinda glad Ram isn't as reliable as Toyota. :D

The 18 and older trucks did have a cooler. There were two different versions. The 19+ are the ones that have coolant ran down to the warmer/cooler. That said, let's not let this devolve into ANOTHER trans cooler thread.

If your wife is happy with a trailer the Tundra can tow, then I recommend making that 15 years with your 2020 as uneventful as possible...Do the cooler retrofit before you ever bring the trailer home. JMHO.

Well every manufacture out there has dealerships, and every dealership has a service department, those service departments are normally full of vehicles being worked on for various reasons, take it for what it is, nothing man made is perfect. Some are more reliable than others tho.

    Welcome to board.

Several threads. Read threads closely. 2019+ deleted the front air-to-fluid exchanger. That's the reason for the higher transmission fluid temps in 2019+.

2019+ now only has the warmer/cooler on the transmission. It warms the fluid with coolant until fluid gets to engine temp, then it provides minimal cooling once fluid temp exceeds coolant temp. Coolant temp is too high and not enough exchanger transfer area to do much cooling of 240 deg transmission fluid. Fluid degrades at higher temps.

Welcome to the forum. Every manufacturer has its share of problems. When looking for a half ton truck I looked at all the manufacturers. My company leases new 1/2 ton trucks every 6 months, so I drive a new truck from all the manufacturers. There are things I like and dislike about all of them.

I chose Toyota for several reasons. One, proven reliable powertrain, easy to self work on without needing to be a professional mechanic. Two, superb reliability. Three, excellent resale even when miles have reached or exceeded 100,000 miles. Can't say the same for the domestics (non-diesels only). Four, it's comfortable, the rear window completely rolls down; not some sort of little tiny window in the middle of a big window. Plus adjustable headlight leveling from inside the cab. The crew cab is huge, and has enough room for adults to ride comfortably. Sure the 5' 6" bed is not practical for carrying a lot of construction materials-- but I didn't buy it for that. I work in telecom and my inside storage was more important than my bed size.

Many of us love our trucks. There are some quirks, but it's been a great truck. I'll keep mine forever. I've added auxiliary lighting, window tint, solar panel for camping, hidden winch, upgraded stereo, front camera, console safe, and other things. When the time comes I'll likely replace the engine instead of getting a new truck. It's a great truck.

I have had 2 1st Gen trucks and still have one of them!
I have had a 2nd Gen and just got a 3rd Gen and all have been work trucks for me to do jobs out of town always over 1000 miles away for the last 15 years or so.

I have had to replace a Throttle Position Sensor on the 1st one.
I had a Bad Coil Pack on the 2nd one last year at 140K.
No issues with the 2nd Gen though I did not have it too long either.
The New one I got right before everyone stopped going anywhere but have still managed to put 5K on it and just replaced the noisy Alternator that it had when I got it.

I had 4 Previa Vans before that and not a real problem with any of them.
I have had some Land Cruisers and a few Tacomas and even a Camry and guess what?

I did have a 4runner that blew up the motor but it turned out that you can do a Timing Belt job wrong and even with a blown Motor I got most of my money back when I sold it?!

No other problems at all and never been stranded although the TPS and Coil Pack had that potential for sure!
I tow and drive the crap out of them too.

If you take care of your Toyota I feel confident it will take care of you and this has been my experience for sure!

I have also had a couple F150s and Suburbans and the 2001 base Ford was entirely trouble free but them others were anything but.

    I am a believer obviously.

I have had a major issue with my 2011 model keeping me from buying a new 2020. Darn thing won’t stop running at 418K. Can’t give this one up with it running so well.

    Yes, yes they are.

Haha in reality everyone else has already hit the nail on the head in my opinion; most reliable truck on the market.

2007 Camry with 180000 miles had 3 batteries, 1 alternator replacement, and 1 water pump replacement. Alt and pump went out well after 100k and we’re both pretty inexpensive.

2018 Tundra has 40000. So far, just gas and oil changes.

I buy Toyota so I don’t have to pay for any extra warranty.

2018 Platinum, Supercharged, Rotora BigBrakesKit, AurburnPro LS, Fox 2.5 HS & LS dampers, 12.1 Screen, 9500CI, 22in 305, TRD exhaust, OvTuned!!, retrax wired tonneau, lockbox and more...
I am on my second supercharged Tundra and truly no other truck compares with regards to reliability. I had an 07 crew max LTD and now I have a 18 platinum. Both handled my heavy foot extremely well but the 18 has a tune from OVTune and is an unbelievable difference. My setup is better than Raptor or any other competitor truck and my advice would be in this order for upgrades:

Auburn limited slip (get rid of the nanny electronic LTD slip) inexpensive $600

    Rear trd bar under $500

Fox 2.5 shocks massively improved ride and handling (expensive but impressive difference)

Supercharger if you want better gas mileage (car stays in overdrive up hills). Seen 25mpg out of my dash at 38 mph avg speed and over 50 miles travelled. Ovtune the truck if supercharging!!! Transmission issues resolved for the extra power.

Without the supercharger you will be mid teens (MPG) for sure but that auburn pro LS will help massively on the traction in wet pavement and keep the nannies from messing with your brakes and taking power away from the motor on acceleration.

If you get the supercharger and plan on using it, I would highly recommend big brake kit and I did Rotora Front and Rear and would highly recommend them as well. I went through 3 sets of rotors on my 07 in 40k miles. Supercharged needs strong brakes on the 07, 2015+ the brakes are bigger stock and solved the issue. I upgraded to Rotora as I didn’t want to risk braking at higher speeds. 17.9in rotors with 8 piston fronts and 4 piston rears.

The 18 now has 30k miles and everything tuned right and I tow with it off and on and last scale had me at 18,900 pounds, truck, trailer and xxxx. Truck did super well and still showed 14mpg on my dash.

If the truck had a 8 or 10 speed tranny I am sure it would get over 30 without a load. The torque setup at 38mph is running at 1100 rpm and truck does amazingly well there and if I could keep the RPMs down at 70 at 1100 rpm with new gears or 10 speed I think the mpg would be amazing...

I would highly recommend Toyota Tundra to anyone! The 2020 has finally put in the push button start and keyless entry is my understanding (the one thing I miss with my 18).

If you are going to have issues you will have it in the first 15k miles. After that it is a 130k++ as long as you take care of it.

My previous Ford diesel, 3 transmissions later I got rid of it...

I got a Tundra because my 1996 Tacoma 4x4 V6 went 200,000 plus miles with zero problems except a $10 starter solenoid contact. The Tundra has 191,000 and just towed a big ass trailer 1,500 miles over 2 mountain ranges for vacation.

I have more than a few friends with GM trucks with AFM problems, and a few with Fords where the spark plugs pop out. Decided I did not need any of that.

...and my back window goes down by hitting a switch on the dash...which is awesome.

My first Toyota truck was a 1996 SR5 4WD T100, Toyota's first attempt at a full size truck.
Mine was a V6 that I purchased used and out of warranty.
The drag link & flex plate failed at about 250,000 miles. Sold @ about 300,000

My second Toyota truck is this V8 2002 SR5 4WD Tundra, purchased used as a CPO truck.
Click the link to read the list of TSB's and warranty repairs. Still driving @ 170,000

My third Toyota truck is this V8 2007 SR5 2WD, purchased used 3 years ago with 270,000 miles.
I am at about 294,000 miles today and the only failures while I've owned it are the fuel pump and immobilizer chip.

As you speculated, i doubt too many people feel the need to post a "my new truck just crossed 50k, 75k, 100k, 150k without any problems" thread, whereas if you experience even a minor problem early on, you may feel the need to post/warn others... At least that's my hunch - and the reason i bought one.

They may not be flashy, but I've owned 5 trucks in my life (1995 F250; 2000 S10 - yeah, I know; 2003 F150; 2013 F150; and my 2020 Tundra). I would occasionally get comments on my truck when it came up in conversation.

Until I got my Tundra. I have had people (guys and girls) walk up to me sitting in my truck to compliment my truck; and one girl asked me if I 'was free that afternoon'!:D For a guy who's married and in his 40's, I don't care the reason - that's a confidence booster. LOL

You asked for odometer picture. Last odometer pic I have with me from late June.
