And for those who say this, that or the other about dealer mark up, I bet they were laughing all the way to the bank with these MSRP or above sales and could care less about the customer, only their pockets. Greed is the root of all evil and the down fall of us all.

Auction prices on used cars are dropping over a percentage point a week, Carvana is more than likely going to go bankrupt, Vroom is right behind it. Carmax is in a little better position buy still underwater on their inventory.

Most dealerships have not faced the fact that they are underwater on their inventory, but that will happen soon.

New inventory is climbing because buying is slowing quickly. A lot of markets have discounts and buying incentives. Give em a couple of more months into the after holiday hangover and there will be some deals to be had.

In my area Tacomas are stacking up, lower trim tundras and some of the cars.

Other car lots look like they did pre covid, cars in every spot. Buying has slowed.

The real fun and when the real deals are going to be available is when the used market really starts to crumble fast. It is happening now but there will be a point that will look like a fire sale, dealers will have to get what they can before the losses put them too far under.

Another thing to remember is that while the tundra was a redesign and had limited availability, LOTS of other vehicles were not in short supply. Still the dealers took advantage and jacked those up too. They made their bed and now it’s time to lay on it. Or maybe on the floor with a blanket.

While I agree that bad dealers should hung from a tree, delighting in hoping for economic disaster for everyone is pretty evil just the same.

So people lined up for months to pay over MSRP and you think the people are going to revolt on these market adjustment dealers AFTER they lower prices? What world do you live in?

2 weeks to slow the spread turned in to 2 years. Not sure above average depreciation is going to be the splash of cold water you speak of.

Honestly, I think those people are fine with what they paid. I got mine for MSRP. It wasn't difficult. If people were really concerned with the market adjustment they were about to pay, they could have just gone to another dealership. It was their choice to pay a market adjustment and they have no right to be bitter about others not paying the same.

Not the people who over paid or paid MSRP. Nobody forced them to buy at those prices. What is going to suck for them is the depreciation of the truck and when the next latest and greatest comes out 2-3 years down the road they will lose their ass but then again they over paid so money must not be an issue.

The past year was an anomaly, but I think most people understand that a vehicle is a depreciating asset. These people got what they want, when they wanted it, at a price they were willing to pay. Some people spend all their mental cycles questioning their past decisions and others look forward. To each their own, but I would venture to guess that most of the reluctant over-thinkers are still sitting on the sidelines kicking the tires.

I am an over-thinker sometimes but also wiser with age. I have a leased 20 and was going to get a 23 when my lease ended in 23 but I know the market will still not be corrected by then, so being wiser I will keep my money on my side and enjoy it with my family. It use to bring me joy to have the latest and greatest, not anymore. Like you said, it's a depreciating asset that gets you from point a to b. I get what you're saying about still sitting on the sidelines but those on the sideline will get the better end of the deal. Yeah, they didn't get the new shinny toy as soon as it hit the showroom floor, but so what, eventually they get it and cheaper. I prefer to not give my money away just because I have it. Unless it is an absolute emergency, I will sit and wait.

    @pursuit2550 & @07DCLimited,

I get what you're saying. You guys are taking a more cautious approach then others, but you're happy with your decision. That's great! But for some reason, y'all are projecting a hypothetical remorse that you would feel onto others. Everyone is different. You don't know their financial situations or what they find important in life. Not everyone who bought a new Tundra did so with the intention of selling it for max profit in 3 years.

No one is suggesting that you made the wrong decision for you. Why are you questioning the amount of regret that others may feel when you don't even know anything about them or how they felt about their deal? If you really want to feel bad for people, you should feel bad for people who bought real estate in the past 12 months. If you really want to feel someone else's regret, you should think about all those idiots that bought real estate in the past 12 months with the plan of turning it into an AirBnB.

The housing market is another shit show. Another example of greedy people driving up a market that's not worth it. Now that all the big hitters made their money, it's time to sit back and watch as it implodes. The sad part is the realtors, loan officers or any of the bottom feeders in the housing market, they are going to lose a lot.

Let me be clear, I’m not hoping anyone loses a job over any of this stuff. Ive lost my job before and it was terrible.. but I will be glad to see a reset in the automobile market and the real estate market.

Just pick up a new tundra army green with xp package. I was able to negotiate 4k under MSRP in NC and money back in my Tacoma trade in. Dealer location matters. I live in a rural area, trucks fly off the lots here so drove over an hour away to a more booshie area where i had plenty of options.

I wish. We can’t keep them in the lot. They all get pre-sold to rubes who pay whatever we ask.

I visited a local dealer's lot this week. I think they had maybe three new Tundra's, of which, it think they were all 2 wheel drive.

Seeing listings online makes it seem like it's slowing down, but at the lot that doesn't seem to be the case.

However, I am optimistic that there is a turning point coming very soon, and I doubt most car manufacturers are prepared for it.

2 Tundras on the lot locally for a cpl weeks, still inventory is lower. A few 4/5 on the way that are not spoken for, was told.
People are tightening up and not spending like earlier spring.

used truck/ car values are definitely decreasing

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Still no Tundra inventory sitting on the lot at my dealership here in northeast Ohio.

Just went in for my first service on Thursday and the 1794 Tundra in the showroom was locked due to it being sold. I asked my salesman about Tundras and he said whatever comes in is sold and if one comes in and not pre-sold it sells in a couple of days. This is also with the Sienna’s.
Yes they are still marking up over MSRP.
    And still selling.
For all these Tundras selling I really don’t see that many on the road.

Evil to wish economic hardship on stupids and greedy price gougers?

Nope. Stupids need to learn lessons. Greedy businesses need a comeuppance, a reminder that pigs get fat but hogs get slaughtered.

I have zero sympathy for dumb shits who have been out there living beyond their means using cheap money irresponsibly to do it. They were major contributors to the inflation we all get to enjoy. Gotta have that new house and new shiny car even if it means paying too much, because they could buy it on credit for a low APR. Now they’re going to be so under water in their new house, and car they’ll either never escape or have to file bankruptcy to do it. Maybe some of them will learn something.

I also have little sympathy for dealers either. They must be losing their minds watching their pre-owned inventory values sinking like a rock. If I were them I’d be running a fire sale on that shit ASAP, get out from under it while it’s possible. Even at a loss, because the longer they wait the more losses they will take.
