So, for those complaining about prices; if you bought a 2022 Tundra then someone offered you $10k more, hell $20k, than what you paid, would you? I know I would. Capitalism and free market at work. I was lucky to get an Xbox Series X and PS5 during launch. I knew the demand was high so I sold both at DOUBLE retail price. I could've gotten more, but I wanted to unload them fast. I got another Series X for myself a couple months later basically free since I profited from the previous 2 console sales. Love it or hate it, it's business. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

After 8 years in the Navy and waiting 1+ hours in the chow line aboard the carrier at times, what you said is exactly what I do when I see a long line anywhere. I could never live in a big city.

Unless you recently totaled your 21' and need a new 22' tundra. Either that or an F-150. They can play me like a fiddle.

That is a good point. This is the one time I would definitely buy GAP insurance and would read the fine print. I bet some of them have a cap on the difference. Definitely would suck to get a '22 totaled after paying a dealer markup. I doubt any insurance company would payout near MSRP for a claim, never mind the MSRP plus dealer markup.

That's kinda unheard of. No one in their right mind would pay $10k or $20k over MSRP for any mass produced truck. The Xbox thing I kinda understand, its only $500. Still hard for me to justify paying that much for a Xbox, but to each his own.

There were people paying +10k for the 2.5 2021 TRD Pro on here. It happens.

Happens all the time, the only reason dealers are selling at $10k+ over MSRP is someone out there is willing to pay it, simple as that. A wise person told me a long time ago when selling real estate that applies here: a house [car] is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I think he meant don't get attached to a particular one before you're fully committed. A bidding war can get expensive.

The member I quoted was meaning if someone paid him, meaning a used vehicle. At least that's how I took it. And those people paying $10k over for a Pro or any mass produced vehicle, have money to burn and don't care or are just clueless. But to each his own.

    Is that so?

It is happening with a lot of vehicles these days due to COVID impacts to the supply chain. Higher demand than supply = dealers' market.

So what you are saying is that I can go buy a 2022 tundra, turn around and sell it as a used vehicle for $10-20k over what I paid OTD price. Sign me up for 10, hell 20 tundras then if I can make that much money on a flip.

I paid MSRP for a 21 Pro in November and they we not making anymore V-8's. Two dealers in my area have no mark ups. That said I also bought other vehicles at both these dealerships for under MSRP years ago.

If you can't find a deal you'r happy with let them sit a while they will make more 22's. When supply catches up with demand or dealers don't move their quota prices will come down.

I mean are the 2.5 Gen guys screwing the dealer by trading our in in at 5-6k ,sometimes more, than we paid for it a few years ago? I bought my limited in 2019 for 33k with 32k miles on it, I recently had it appraised at the dealer during a warranty issue and they're offering 39k trade in with 73k miles on it. It's all supply and demand, and if you're one of those lining up to get more money for your trade then you can't also complain how expensive the new one is with markup. Dealer pays more for for trade vehicle, has to mark up to make same profits. If it costs more to do business , they have to make more money. Simple economics.

What do you think caused the "chip shortage" among other things? You think all those container ships lined up off both east and west coasts are empty? They're waiting to be unloaded with imported goods/ raw material. We will be recovering from supply chain backlogs for quite some time. As a DoD project manager I see a large impact to procuring much of the material we need. Items with lead times with as much as "365 days" because the manufactures don't even know when they'll have what they need to make stock.

If you find someone desperate enough, maybe. But dealers are marking up their incoming stock. As an experiment, you could list a 2022 Tundra you theoretically have for sale $10k over MSRP and see how many hits you get.

I know at one point there were also reports of Asian Pacific cargo holding off the coast with the hope of the previous administration embargo taxes to be reversed.

Used vehicles have gone up 35%, trades are worth 5k more than they were two years ago, sometimes more than that. People have been kicking the hell out of dealers for years and years and now the dealers have the reins for once and people have a melt down. You are paying more now for everything not just vehicles. Its laughable that people cry about this topic. Buy it or don't, real easy.

Personally if you over pay on a mass produced truck, your not desperate, your stupid. I am sorry but there is no rational explanation as to why you have to have it now and over pay. But your right, like they say, there is a sucker born everyday.
As for dealers, I read somewhere, maybe here, that they no longer want to mass produce them and have them sitting in the lots. Instead keep inventory low to mid and sell at MSRP. Who knows what 2022 will bring and what the new normal will be.

I don't understand these complaints. If you decide to sell your home and someone offers you an extra $10,000, are you gonna say no? If you say yes, are you screwing that person?

If someone decides to pay $10,000 over MSRP for a new vehicle that's on them. No one is forcing them. I will not feel one shred of sympathy for that person either.
