I'm chiming in late but I have the ARE MX HD shell with full walk-in rear door that lifts up and out of the way, dual interior tool boxes, and their Ascend roof basket.

A different look for sure, but I kinda like it. To each their own. Everyone has their own reason for getting a shell. My main purpose for getting a shell was to throw kid crap in the back and keep my dog dry during duck season. The owner of the shop is all about the Z series and I understand why, it’s a clean looking shell. I wanted more airflow than the pop-out windows offered and I wanted as much height clearance at the rear and those monster all metal hinges (which scream badassness and longevity) stick down quite a bit. Plus I saw those as head whoppers for someone like myself who’s 6’4.

I've got a CX series on mine. I'm getting some water in the bed somehow... I know for sure when I have to open it during the rain, it runs down the window and drips into the back, but not sure where else it is getting in.

Interesting. CX is what I ordered too. What part of the bed is getting water outside of the areas from the front hatch opening?

Up around the front gets wet sometimes. I had a light bar on top that I removed, so it may be leaking there. Also, I've had a lot of wet soccer equipment in there, as I am a high school coach, so it may just be from that. I've got it all emptied out now, so I'll keep an eye on it now and see if I can figure it out.

Keep me posted if the leaking stops after the adjustments you made.

Get inside and get someone to hit it with the hose. I bet it is the front edge at the bed. The Tundra bed is lower on the front and takes a little work on the install to seal it up.

My rear window leaked pretty bad on my Z series. It's a poor design from ARE the way they channel water and the type of sears they used. You just need to silicone the edge where the black metal trim peice going around the entire window cutout meets up with the fiberglass. That's where the water leaks from.

    Kinda long...
Take it back to the ARE dealer and have him use double up tape under the front rail where the topper corners meets the bed. They can snug the clamps down, but not gonzo big gorilla hands tight. ;)
Keeping the seal across the bed rail even sealing if that makes sense and not squeezed flat, resulting in no seal. I actually specified this during install. Again particular attention of this to the corners. The corners are where most leaks occur.
Just past experience with topper insulation tape, I had the installers put the insulating foam tape on the topper bottom rail and NOT applied on the Tundra bed rail. You don’t want to have to remove the topper tape from the bed rail if you remove your topper.

If you get a really good installer and use the above pointers you should not have leaks. After a topper install take your truck to a brushless car wash. That will tell you quickly how good and experienced of an installer you had.
If you remove your topper often you may consider new insulation tape.
I had my ARE Z installed in 14 and no leaks.
    FWIW...

Mine leaked at the front. ARE installer said it’s a known Toyota thing as the front bed rail is lower. They used butyl tape on the outside around the front edges and hasn’t leaked since.

To my point, If the installer knew this he should have done it right the first time. Instead of you having to take time out of your life to keep hm employed and returning for a do over..just sayin.MERICA. I digress. Good job getting it done right the second time.

I was just barely under $2k OTD. It was free carpet when I purchased in October. Only other option I got was the drop down sliding rear window.

Well to say the least, I’m a little disappointed. My shell leaked the first time out in rain today while I was on an afternoon duck hunt. Crap!

I had ARE on my two previous Silverados. The last one was a Z series. I loved them. The last one developed a leak around the door after about 10 years. I highly recommend the swing down sliding window. Also the power lock that wires into the truck locks. I had to tighten the hold down clamps every couple of years, but that’s routine maintenance. My local rep was great to deal with.
I went BakFlip MX on my 2019 CM but I may end up swapping it for an ARE cap down the road.

Corners of the bed mainly. Keep in mind, my truck was parked with the rear end facing the wind and rain for about 4 hours.

I spoke with my dealer today. My truck is going back in next Saturday to add a second layer of tape or whatever they use to make a seal. I’ll update everyone after I get the truck back and run a hose over the camper if we don’t have rain.

Ya, so my truck went back in saturday. Long story short, they pulled the cap, used double tape all the way around and on the sides of the shell used what I would call like channel tape, it’s got C looking runs down both sides. It rained some yesterday morning and I popped my hatch in the afternoon and looked dry to me.
