Are 3/1 spacer kits always a bad idea?

So what’s the deal with the 3/1 leveling spacer kits? Seems like so many people are using them yet there are a few people out there that say “they are junk and don’t do it.” Are those people saying that because they are doing serious off-roading with them, or do they have a very high failure rate in general?

I doubt ill be off road anyway other than a grass parking lot at the races. Im only on pavement and towing a camper and other equipment.

    Thanks for the input.

They're not junk, there are just better options if you have the money. If you won't be doing much off-roading then a 3/1 will be fine. Your ride may be a little stiffer.

I say buy once, cry once.

Spacers will make the ride stiffer, and I’ve seen situations where shocks have snapped due to limited travel and a good pothole, also I’ve seen guys run them without a problem.

It’s entirely up to you, I personally went with the spacer lift and ended up upgrading to Toytec BOSS and haven’t looked back since.

It's kind of a get what you pay for situation. I don't do a ton of offroading, and what I do is fairly light compared to what some guys here do, but I knew going with a coilover kit would be better for the truck in the long run. You'll be able to get the look you're going for with just a spacer kit, and you may never have any major issues with it, but I like having the peace of mind that the suspension I'm running is designed for the height of my truck. Spacers ask your stock suspension to do something it isn't really designed to do.

I did spacers. 15k miles later and 17k total miles on my truck and my stock shocks were squeaking. Embarrassing coming from a new truck. Turns out the spacers put too much pressure on my lower shock mounts. I never went offroad on my spacers. Dealer did not honor the warranty because of the spacers. I ended up upgrading my suspension using ICON shocks.
