Was simply stating that the linked molle panel site says it won’t work with sunroof, but based on it sitting behind the dome light and only attaching at the grab handle, I can’t see how it would make a difference.

My other comment was simply that based on the install video, it doesn’t seem like the most robust system with no reinforcement at the bends.

Either way, it won’t work for OP’s request of something in the front versus the back. So probably a moot point either way.

I’ve wanted to find something that mounts above the rear view mirror and then has a one-hand quick release around the interior light in the middle of the cab. So the rifle is pointed forward along the centerline. Any occupant can grab-n-go.

I thought you may have used the product before. Tracking.

As I said in my first comment, depends on how it will be used. All designs have advantages and disadvantages when you assess them based on user requirements, safety is the biggest one.

As far as robustness, the sides fold in giving the panel rigidity; it is a common technique used to give panels strength without adding thickness or weight. Truck frames often use a similar design (scaled up of course). You really only need it to hold 10lbs of kitted out rifle and other accoutrements. Probably can hold two if there is enough room for the rifles to 69 each other.

Probably could be modded/adapted for a sunroof.

To be fair, here is the video of the product ( or similar to) in the op:
    https://youtu.be/e7Gq9EeJMyU

So when I look at these two items side by side what do I see?
    • Plastic + wedging for support vs integrated bolt on points - Sure modern automotive plastics are robust but they tend to deform and fail over time. 16 to 26 lbs hanging off of these points, banging around. The bolt on points are integrated into the truck support panels and support more weight than the Molle panel could support. I'm an all natural kinda guy but when it comes to bolt ons vs plastic + wedging, bolt-ons win in my book.
    • Forward vs Rearward position - I have zero space between my grape and my headliner, even less if I am wearing a helmet for wombat season. The forward position of the double rack would be a no go for me. OPs ergos are probably different.
    • Rearward position 2 - Rear windows tend to be tinted aiding in concealing. If you are in a lifted truck surrounded by height impaired people you may loose the advantage but I think a slightly rearward position boosts the grey man factor.
    • Rearward position 3 - check your state laws on storage as it varies by jurisdiction. Nuff said
    • Retention - velcrox2 vs Molle. I always thought velcro shoes were cool but Molle will always have my heart; especially if you already have the Molle full spring collection. Velcro is noisy too.
    • Orientation - starboard to port only vs 360 degree mounting. This deserves more attention if you have passengers. Also plays into drawing. Rifle length plays a role too.
    • Ergonomics/drawing - undoing velcro x 2 vs your favorite modular retention system. Now do it under stress. Now do it again while you are tired. Now do it again with one hand. You are not done yet, try it again with your weak hand. Get back and try it again with greasy/oil hands (simulates blood). As an example this is using retention that requires standard manual of arms manipulation: https://youtube.com/shorts/51zJbh7_dQk?feature=share
I'm not endorsing either product without testing them both. I am just offering food for though. I don't like the idea of storing the rifle over the head, slightly rear or slightly forward sure (the shelf thing would probably obstruct visibility). Footwell or behind the passenger seat would be my first picks but I understand those aren't options. Overhead in a starboard to port orientation is a no go for me, maybe front to back but I would have to play around with it in that orientation.

These are the things that keep me awake at night.

Ergos are the same. Im going to maybe order one on Amazon. Instal it then assess from there. If it doesn’t work, Amazon return at UPS and move on to next option.

Guys! We’re going in for operation “Easy Colon”.
We will leave No man behind.
The operation will run smooth, yet firm and we’ll clean up the end.
No swollen prostates and an enema is the last resort.

    @Hightide @Saltyhero13 @FrenchToasty

So what had happened was….I fell into a well. It wasn’t that bad. There was lotion and a small white dog and cool art work on the sides of the well from girls fingernails. Anyways, this guy(?) was going to make a skin suit out of me but I told him about onlyfans and how we could make a fortune. So we did. And ummm ya, now I want some overhead storage for an AR.

Hey, long time lurker and first time poster here. This forum has really helped fuel my mod obsession so thanks for all the insight gents. I just wanted to bump this and let you know the OG Fabrications molle panel can work on sunroof models. However, you'll need to make some custom mounting brackets to lower the panel. The difference between the sunroof and non sunroof models are that the SRoof models have a lowered bulge, to make room for the sliding SRoof. I just used some 1" aluminum strips and bent them in place. Turned out pretty fire and waiting for my AR mount to arrive to test a horizontal mount. 20231222_150425.jpg 20231222_150453.jpg 20231222_150425.jpg 20231222_150425.jpg 20231222_150550.jpg 20231222_150629.jpg

How do I make these images smaller? Sorry to the real-estate grab
