Anyone use these tow hooks?

To my knowledge, all trims except the SR had it. . I guess not!

 

They actually go around the sway bar, replacing the stock brackets. I ordered a set but changed my mind and going to buy the nytop hooks.

 

My Limited with TRD Off-Road does not have the air dam either. When I installed my skid plates , I was surprised to not find it there...

 

That seems strange. I have the 22 Limited with the OR package and it does have it. Another way to check is to put the wiper switch in the mist position for a few seconds AFTER turning the ignition off. If you have one, it will deploy. It’s a method to deploy it for maintenance.

 

Wow looked at Slee Offroad again and its now $836 +$63.00 Tax to pick it up locally. If you get the 2 hooks shipped its over $1000.00+, I really don't see them selling many of these when that is bumper money. I understand there was probably a decent amount of R&D involved, but after seeing that as an option it looking like the smart buy is a mid bumper. Thats a bummer because they are like 15 minutes from my house.

 

I THINK you're correct. I believe the sway bar is moved or held differently with that lift and they won't line up. Seems like I've read that somewhere.

 

The rear trailer hitch tow hook/shackle would be good to have. Those aftermarket front bumpers would be a good option if you are offroading and need a forward pull.

Have you looked at the nytop or whatever it is hooks? Pricey but they look sturdy.

 

I have one of those. Every time I see people driving around in an urban area with those on whether it be from tow hooks or hitch in the rear, I have this "what-if" that someone would hook something on to it and you'd drive off yanking a big solid item.

Yep. I really went down the rabbit hole trying to understand it and there is no hard and fast rule that they follow. You can find all makes and modes with or without it from the factory. My 23 crewmax limited OR premium didn’t have it from the factory. The part that annoyed me was the air dam is the engineers excuse for why they didn’t do front tow hooks as explained on a TFL video back when the 3rd gen came out.

I’m still waiting on my preorder Nytop ones. One update email from them which said October. Would be great if they would ship them considering how much they are pushing them as being for sale on their IG.

 

Thinking about the hooks and Westcott lift. How is the ride with the westcott lift? I hear its harsh? is that true.

 

how are these worth the $300?

 

They attach directly to the frame through the bumper without anything beyond two small cuts in the middle plastic. The AFE ones appear to average around $100 and are held on with one bolt in replacement of the sway arm holder so not very sturdy. Vs even a middle section replacement which runs at least $800 they seem a functional option for less cost. I bought them at presale for $200. I don't work for them so convincing you of the value really isn't my job.

 

I can't saw about the wescot. I have the actual TRD 3" lift and realize it was more expensive but it rides REALLY nice and I won't have to argue over warranty if there is an issue later so I felt it was worth more being brand new.

 

I have the TRD lift and the AFE front tow hooks installed no problem. Lined up perfectly. Am I missing something?

 

Very interesting. Other people have said they ordered them and it did not fit with the trd lift. But it did on yours and looks the same as my version. They are lower and harder to get to if you need them but cheaper and easier if it’s all for emergency use. I would have done them based on this if I hadn’t ordered the Nystop ones on preorder. Compared to $300 at full price it’s a good deal.

 

Have you received the NYTPOP hooks yet?

 

No. I got an email saying roughly October. Presale was only $200 so not much more than the AE ones and they are in better spot and more solid.

 

Oh I'm going to order them. . Just curious how aggravating it is to slot the front cover if you don't order theirs

 

Installed with working air dam, I believe I had to cut a corner of the air dam to retract fully back.

 

really want to see a post on these installed, one the website they have the AFE hooks installed with their hooks, do both!

 

Has anyone seen a front hook option with a prong, so that you can hook a strap right off it without needing to tie loops? Like in our early ‘00s dodge farm truck (see pic)

 

In yellow is all plastic,one would need a 100% perfect approach to to help anyone in distress with out that bumper blowing up.
Sorry not trying to be a stick in the mud here,but just look at it in a real life perspective, the functionality of those or any tow hooks in that location on this truck is shit and I wish that toyo put recovery hooks on our trucks.
With that money spent you could of bought AJT knobs...

 

You getting yanked out while driving 35+mph (or whatever the actual speed is for air dam deployment)?

While not ideal, these hooks are sure better than none at all.
..... and no one will have their air dam out/down when in "recovery"

 

Understood and under tension @ 1 MPH will crush that and anything eles in the way.
Just my .02 Gentlemen.
