Curious if anyone has a rifle with the chamber fluted, leaving brass like this:

Found where I shoot. Apparently it’s for unique situations where extraction is difficult. Sure seems like it would leave a filthy chamber after just a few shots.

Fluted to fit in a lager chamber. Okay for bolt action but not super accurate and can be tough to eject. Will 100% jam up a semi auto.

The fluting you see is from expansion of the brass into grooves that are cut into the chamber, I believe.

I have seen .mil rifle bolts fluted (bolt actions) They are designed that way because of ice build up in mountainous, artic environments. Again, I have never seen that.

Availability to shoot a smaller round through a larger chamber. We used them in scout sniper training for learning. Gives lager availability on a battle field with closely similar rifles. Mostly Russian and not horribly common. Fun to play with on a range though. Sure jams on anything but a bolt action.

Hes at the half way mark. Hes doing good, hating life because Drill Sgt told him to. We're going to Navarre FLA and driving up to SC for his graduation in about a month.
I told him to focus on the 25 meter target, dont worry about tomorrow. And its always one day less!
