Alright, I’m finally getting around to painting them with a rattlecan. Lol

I’ll post it after I’m done… hopefully by Friday. The first two look ok, at least until they get mounted and salt hits them at which point, I’m not sure the spray can will be a good idea. I’d rather have the tires come off and have them properly powder coated, but I’m trying to retire and save money…

The powder coat would look good but that plus the price of the wheels almost defeats the purpose of having cheap do it all wheels. I bet it would look good though.

Here’s something I noticed: 1 of the old wheels had some of the original silver paint flaking off. Under it was what looked like a matte black treatment. If I could have found a way to get all of the original paint offf without damaging it, that might have been really cool. I tried though.. the stuff that was flaking came off easy, but the rest was adhered really well.

The wheels that were posted in that link from Walmart said oem reconditioned, if that is the case 65 a piece is a good deal. I've also been a fan of this look too and I think it'll look cool on my Army green, so I ordered them! Unfortunately, there was only 3, so I'll have to come up with another option for 1 more. Thanks for the link.

I sure will:) I’m putting 295/70/18 on, looking for used off marketplace but most likely put the new Nitto Recons on. I liked my ridge grapplers, but I like these more

use your actual spare as your 4th wheel then use the nicer/base wheels as your spare? If you get what I'm saying

I was thinking that too. I’m most likely wrong, but for some reason I thought it was a 7 inch wheel. I’ll have to lower it down later and take a look. I’d go that route for sure and get a spare another time. I also don’t want to order a 4th until I get the wheels to make certain they are oem…because if they weren’t…no way I could mix and match, even if they visually matched…

No, the spare SKU is what we’re talking about here.

I bought them, I just don’t have them on yet. I need to decide on the tire I want. When I finally get around to it I certainly will post pics

Y’a know, I worried too much. The rattle can job looked just fine and it held up all winter. Just took them off a couple weeks ago and did an inspection… nothing flaking off or anything… still looked like I had just sprayed it.

Would still love to see some good pics of a 2.5 gen truck with black steelie spares. Not quite brave enough to do it myself. Also a bit concerned about the weight, though it’d probably be less than the huge 20” Platinum wheels I have on now.

You might be surprised… my truck definitely has a more comfortable ride on my winter set of steels that are 18” instead of my summer set…20” alloys that came with my Limited. Actually considering moving to a nice set of 18” alloys instead…

Oh yeah, I do NOT like these 20” Platinum wheels. Planning on replacing them with 18s of one type or another when finances allow.

I’d do it now, except I recently bought a new set of Coopers for the 20s. -sigh-

This is the only applicable thread I could find on the forum when researching using steel wheels on my build, so I figured I’d update it with my truck.

Side note… I do not see any tire weights? Was the tire shop able to add them else where rather then clamped on the lip?

also how is the maintenance? Simply pull the wheel and respray it black?

The fronts only needed them on the inner lips. If you look closely the rears have them on the outer, but can’t remember if inner too. All in all they balanced really well with the Coopers.

I spot hand sanded, used Dremel on really tough spots, and then scotch bright. Next I pressure washed really well, then used Krylon Satin spray paint to apply several good coats letting dry throughly between each coat.
