No, I get it... I had no intention of buying another boat back when I lifted it and put these on. I also get that we don't buy these because of their exemplary MPG... But 6MPG, Fuk that!!! I can tow now and get 10-11mpg, not towing I'm backup to 14. I can live with that...

    Yeah, that's brutal.

I liked that my '00 didn't have the MPG readout so readily accessible. :rofl:I keep that off my screen now.

I try not to let my 38 gallon tank go below about half, don't want wifey to see the triple digit charges if I had to fill it from below there. lol

Power takes fuel, and I'm okay with the price of admission for that. Single digits when pulling a parachute into a headwind I can live with for a little while.

That’s a stolen photo of a cement colored Tundra like mine that looks way cooler. Mine is like that one only in the paint color and it is a Tundra.

I regretted the Cooper rugged trek in 35x12.5r20. I am quite satisfied with the falken wildpeak 35x11.5r20

285/75/18s here. I love the way the vehicle looks with them. My last tundra had rock warrior wheels and E rated tires from the previous owner, so the heavier tire and harsher ride was something I knew to expect. Never minded the mpgs, as these trucks are horrible to begin with.

As other have commented, hills are better approached in S mode. I find using S5 a lot helps with long grade uphill climbs.

Aside from that, the only downside I can see is is the cost of replacement.

I'm getting 16.8 mpg mixed driving on stock size Ridge Grapplers. That's with a lot of stop lights. No way I could live with it being more sluggish. You couldn't give me new 35s. I'd like to see the real cost of these mods over life of truck.

I just jumped from 275/70/18 Goodyears to 295/70/18 Falken Wildpeaks. Went from 15-16 ish mpg on road trips to 14-15 ish mpg. Better ride, better traction/grip(which also affects mpg), and better looking.

    No regrets

I guess I will chime in here: 295/70/18 Recon Grapplers on stock TRD rims. Average 11-14 mpg depending upon speeds. At 65 mph on highway, 14+ but at 77 mph on freeway, 11ish. With 30K miles on these 50K mile tires, I'm pretty happy with them. I'd consider add 2" to the stock lift, and putting 37's, especially for Moab clearance and such.. but with fuel prices heading to the moon, I'm in no hurry to see the MPG plummet even more.

No regrets. I have 295/70/18. To me, they look better than stock. I got a 3 1/2” lift so I am working on modifying to fit 37’s.

I pull a 5060# 29’ camper with current setup that I mentioned above. I have no issues. Mileage is 13-14 pulling/hauling nothing and 8-9 pulling camper. I’m ok with it. IMG_4958.jpg

Back in the day, mid 60's to early 70's, there weren't too many options at all as far as "fat" tires. We used Armstrong Tru Trac flotation tires for running on sand at 10 psi, otherwise, tall and narrow whether on mud or trying to climb a steep Cat made fire trail. (Orygun) We went pretty much everywhere with a stock truck on tall OEM tires, where now you must have these crazy heavy, overwhelmingly, oversized tires to "get" to the same places. 50+ years ago. I must be missing something.....I've gone back to my 4 wheeling roots at 67...full circle. Tall and narrow.

I fully planned on at least leveling and going up a size or two on tires before purchasing my Tundra. Every 4x4 we own has some sort of lift and larger tires. With the EPA and all the mileage concerns, 4x4's today sit far to low IMO. Our 08 v8 4Runner has 18's and 275/65/18 with a level. Whats interesting about the 4th Gen 4R is they are so nose down stock, the cv's actually angle up towards the tire. Ours is leveled and the CV's are now level as well. No regrets, power delivery is great, v8 full-time 4WD is butter.

The Tundra came with 20" wheels stock that are much heavier than the 18" SCS wheels on it now. Tires are 295/70/18 Toyo AT3 that are E rated. I think it came in just a few lbs heavier per wheel/tire moving all the way up to E rated 295s. In an ideal world, you wouldn't lose any power, I'm sure there is some power loss, but not noticeable enough to justify a regear or maybe I'm just used to it. I will say, I don't regret upgrading the tires on any of the vehicles, stock size or larger. One of the first things you should do IMO even if your replacing w stock size.

Slightly related: I cross shopped a Raptor at the time, as the stock 35's appealed to me. I likely would have left it alone, or swapped the BFG's to another tire, but thats personal pref and wouldn't have been a larger tire. The Raptor had more power, more features, 10speed trans, but I didn't trust it, the build quality just wasn't there but thats for a different thread. Overall I built something more tailored for my needs, more reliable, and for less $.

Same tires, same gears. I am ~2300 RPM going 80-83 mph. My speedo is consistently ~5 mph off my GPS speed

we went on a second trip towing the trailer, this time i spent more time in s4 at around 55-60, if traffic was flowing faster then i would push it to 65-70 in s5 when flat or downhill (not often above 65).
Overall i felt a little better about the setup, i brought three 5gal gas tanks but only needed to use 2 of them.

It was Dick Cepek who started offering oversize tires back in the late 50's. He had Armstrong Rubber make up some tires for his FJ. The rest is history. My grandparents neighbor, "Binks", would take me down to Cepek's store in South Gate, CA. Binks had a FJ. I still remember being amazed every time I got to go there. Gave me the 4 wheeling bug. I was maybe 7/8 yrs old. 1962/63. Ha!

Weight, friend weighted his C10 with 4x4 conversion, even with LQ engine swap he was still at 4000lbs with a full tank, my truck sits at almost 6800lbs with me in it.

I recall XJ weights 3500lbs, which is wild compare to all the SUVs now, a RAV4 prime weights 4300lbs.
