Anyone not like the 2018 safety features?

I have driven only 500 miles so far but for me the safety features are great. Zero issues so far.

As far as I'm concerned you should be able to disable ALL of that "high tech with occasional issue" crap. It's bad enough that some of the safety stuff isn't optional as in given a choice. I certainly don't need it and if I did I might as well turn in my license. I can see where certain features can be useful for some and possibly me like auto high beams...no wait.....hell no...

Design wise, if you don’t care for the safety tech, you could save buying a 2017 and putting a 2018 grille and LEDs on it. The body is the same. In fact, goes back to 2014 I think, except the bigger 38 gallon tank began in 2016.

I just thought maybe you can disable what you don't want with Tech Stream software. I'm not sure though.

I'm not a fan. All this crap limits what you can do to your truck. Questions on whether certain lifts will make it not work, or custom bumpers/grills/grill guards.

Turned off the AHB, LDA, and turned the sensitivity way down on the PCS. I haven't tried the DRCC yet.

The PCS has given me one warning, and it was a 'ghost warning' as there was nothing in my immediate path.

I too have had the lane departure turned off since Day 2 of ownership. It alerted over any slight movement and drove me crazy. I'd imagine it wouldn't be too helpful to those that still do use it simply because it alerts so often I would imagine you would grow numb to hearing it.
I like the back up sensors and front bumper sensors but the radar system for the cruise control etc. needs work. Some days it seems if the light hits it just right in late afternoon my radar throws an error and disables itself and same thing in the morning if there is heavy condensation on the truck. It usually quickly fixes itself but still annoying. Also the radar brakes way too hard at times to the point I envision getting rear-ended one day because of it. So I am 50/50 on the features. I wouldn't not buy a new truck because of it but it does need some help. The crappy Entune in my opinion is where Toyota should put focus on improving. The system has literally not changed since it's introduction many moons ago.

Ever notice these safety features would seem to particularly help intoxicated drivers!?!? :0

The lane departure beep can be annoying at times. I guess i didn't realize how often I drive towards the line. I don't like that when you turn off the Collision warning that you get this yellow icon on the dash. Also when it rains, the front sensor will sometimes say that its dirty and turn it off. Other than that no issues.

The parking sensors are really nice to have.

This is going to be the way things are with new vehicles. Most of them have it and those that don't will soon. It is benign and doesn't interfere with the enjoyment of an otherwise excellent vehicle.

To each their own but it damn sure does for me if it’s constantly beeping and flashing lights for no reason, that would stress me out horribly. Once they perfect it there won’t be an issue but as it stands now it’s a huge deal for me and others, literally a deal breaker

Test drove a 2018 CM today and asked about the TSS and leveling the truck out. Dealer said there had been issues in the wet with some of the TSS trucks and if I was leveling or lifting the truck the best bet was to turn off all the TSS functions.... which impacted the radar cruise control. Not overly thrilled with that solution.
So currently it's a deal breaker for me and it looks like I'll be sticking with my 08 DC for now

You would think you could re-calibrate the sensors. After all, you can raise and lower the headlight beams. I know it's apples to oranges but still.

That’s why I bought a 2017. Don’t want to be the one who works out all of the quirks in the new 2018 electronic safety features.

At some point those added safety features will be non avoidable but I know I have at least 6 years before I buy new again.

I wonder how the front sensor in the grill emblem works with a layer of frozen snow and ice on it while driving in a blizzard?

I know i'm a southerner and not supposed to know how to drive on snow but, do you generally set cruise control in a blizzard?

I have a 2018 and no complaints about TSS. Zero issues in 7 months. It has been un-intrusive except for the lane departure which I disabled within a week. And what's great is it stays off after you disable it.

It's not just about the adaptive cruise control. It's the PCS system that may momentarily "see" something that's not there and lock your brakes up. This cannot be turned off, I've tried through the menu on the instrument cluster and it still alerts "BRAKE!" When you get too close to something .

The PCS can be turned off, I do it every time I get in the truck (as well as switching on TOW HAUL). Use the right set of arrow keys on the steering wheel and go to the "gear" icon to the full right. Scroll up and down (may have to go into "vehicle steetings") and you will find a "PCS On" indication. Push the center button and it turns it off.

PCS is my least desirable function of the TSS, it gets turned off every time I drive the Tundra. Last time I took it in for a software upgrade I asked if it could be turned off permanently, he said it couldn't.

    Moon Puppy,

While driving on the interstate here in the Cleveland area you can drive into squalls on your route, when doing so the traffic in front of you can kick up wet snow like slush that will cake the entire front of your truck like a glaze. Once you drive through the squall it can be sunny but the outside temp might be 3 degrees and my question is valid does the snow / ice glaze affect your Toyota emblem sensor?

Be thankful you don’t have to drive in those conditions.

I think my question is valid also, you generally use cruise in icy conditions? For the record I spent 2 years in ND while in the USAF, I did learn how to drive in those conditions. (as well as walking out the second floor window to get to the chow hall because the lower floor doors were blocked)

I'm no radar expert but I'm pretty sure ice isn't the same density as aluminum, steel or even fiberglass. @Buildn good luck with all that this winter, let us know what you find out.

Only issue so far is if I go through a drive thru the truck beeps the whole time and shows the left front sonar indicator on the display. Anyone else seen this?

I've never had the PCS activate on me, not for a moment. But that's exactly the kind of thing I was afraid of with it. I'd just turn it off but I hate seeing that big yellow indicator on all the time.

Still, hasn't been an issue yet and hope it stays that way.

Bought my 2018 Platinum 3 weeks ago and the only annoying thing is the lane assist. Finally found out how to turn it off and I am very happy. No issues with anything.
