What I see is photos that do not match. Need photos that are current and reflect the current condition and equipment on the truck. Looks like the steps have been changed and the tires have been changed. Both could be good things if that's what's currently on the vehicle. My $0.02

The truck does have bfg all terrains on ot now, he sent me a video on monday.. i didn't notice the different steps until you pointed them out but the steps installed now are what's shown in the undercarriage photos.. so seems like this is a good thing..
thank you for helping! there's a guy on this forum that just recommended a good mobile mechanic so i am working on getting it inspected by him.

My research indicates that to be the downstream oxygen sensor on rear of the catalytic converter. It measures the oxygen in the catalytically cleaned exhaust gases.

There will be also be an upstream O2 sensor(s) as well, maybe one for each bank's exhaust pipe according to "code reader shows a 'b(e?)low threshold bank 1' ". If you paid for an inspection, you are due a full explanation of the "code", and the implications, from the technician.

In spite of what the seller told you, the new downstream O2 sensor is not the problem if his "bank 1" code comment is correct. The problem is with the upstream O2 sensor on the driver side exhaust pipe.

Bank 1 refers to the driver's side. There is an upstream and downstream sensor, one before and one after the cat. Bank 1 sensor 1 is the upstream. Bank 1 sensor 2 is the downstream. Could be either on Bank 1. Hopefully the reputable mechanic can get it all sorted for you and it turns out to be a great truck!!

You're in the right place. Lots of first gen knowledge on here. I've had mine for 15+ years, many on here have as well. I found this forum looking for information on a center carrier bearing and never left....

Little late to the party, but did you get everything taken care of? I live about 5/10 minutes north of Leander.

If everything checks out good, are you planning to have truck shipped? Or are you planning to fly in and drive it home?

I just want to share my experience with selling a car out of state. I sold my Subaru WRX to a guy in Michigan couple years ago. He wanted rust free Texas car. He bought the car without being here in person to inspect the car. I was fully transparent and honest with him everything about the car. I took tons of pics and videos for him. We agreed on a price, and next day he deposit money to my account. I sent him the title in the mail. The car was picked up from my house by a car transport. It was delivered to his house in 4-5 days. He was extremely happy with the car and said the car was in better condition than he thought. Honestly, I was very surprised he was willing to buy car without an inspection and was willing to deposit money to my account. Overall everything went smooth and was easy transaction.

I would recommend you get copy of their ID/driver license from the seller. If it is Texas title, be sure they sign the front of title and there is also a spot for seller to sign on the back. In Texas the seller also needs to sign "title transfer" form. I'm not sure how California works. Good luck

Use PayPal or Venmo. No checks—even cashier's checks.

Have the owner email or fax you a copy of the title before you buy it, so you can see that it is legitimate.

At the time of sale, have him FedEx the title to you.

ok i had the mechanic look at it and it seems like there is some work to be done.... i'm going to start off by saying the reason i am buying a tundra is i want something i can tow a 3,000lb travel trailer with. The truck has a 6" lift on it and when i mentioned towing with the truck the owner said he tows a 6,000 lb jeep with a trailer and he has no issues. I started a feed on this site about it earlier this week and the few ppl that responded said it shouldn't be much of an issue. i would like to address this issue more because i am still hesitant about the whole thing. I do really like this truck a lot but i want to make sure it what i need.

moving on to what the mechanic said,

There is a leak in the engine could be valve cover gasket, crankshaft seal, or rear main seal. ( owner said he had it looked at by toyota and its the valve cover gasket and oil pan. he is planning on replacing these and cost is covered no extra expense for me)

truck has a vibration when driving over 50mph. issue is probably drive line related and bearing in the middle of the driveshaft is loose. mechanic said instead of replacing parts that may or may not be the issue, its best to replace the driveshaft to save on labor.

rear wheel seals are leaking(owner said he's already planning on getting it repaired at no cost to me

engine light is on and reads p0420 which was the oxygen sensors i was talking about. he couldn't find anything wrong with the cat or sensors and reset the code and says everything appears to be ok. The cat is aftermarket and made in canada. I told the owner i need the receipt on this because i live in california and need to make sure the cat is the right one to pass california smog.

owner said timing belt was replaced 6 months ago but there is no sticker on the engine for proof.. mechanic did not remove the cover but with indication of the oil leaking he thinks it needs to be done. truck has 170k on it ... i asked the owner to provide receipts.

looks like there is a fair amount of general maintenance that needs to be done to it, brake flush, power steering, transmission and diff oils.

other things wrong with it are oil leak on left cv axle, and back height sensor is disconnected and bungee cord is holding it up.

I told the owner in order for me to buy it i need the vibration in the steering resolved, and the repairs he said he would do as well as receipts for the timing belt and cat..

anyone care to tell me their opinion? its a solid truck with only 170k and 15 year old trucks are going to have issues. i'm having a hard time deciding if i should buy and i keep going back to my first issue that is this truck ok for towing??? tires are 34x10.5x17 (285x75x17) not too big. i will continue my feed that i stared about this and see if you guys can help me decide if this is the right truck for me.. you have all been so helpful so far and really appreciate all of your feedback!

You're fortunate. Would not have bought a truck with so much deferred maintenance, which is your best indicator of how it has been cared for.

If your goal is to tow comfortably, don't buy a lifted vehicle. Also, Stick close to stock tire size.
