Owned my tundra now for about 10 months. I haven't used the spare key at all. Today I couldn't find my set of keys, so I grabbed the spare and ran out to my truck. Truck wouldn't start, first thought was battery was dead, but I could get it to turn over, just wouldn't start. Came back in and looked for my orginal set, found them and went back to the truck and it started....not sure if there may be an issue with my spare key, wasn't sure if anyone else ran into this issue.

the original key has a chip in it. the chip is coded to your truck and talks to the computer. I he spare key is not chipped or coded correctly, truck will not start. the key is only good for opening doors. bring your spare key to a lock smith or dealer to se if is chipped. chipped keys are expensive. good luck
