RAS would be better I believe. On-road or offroad camping use?

It would be off road, but pretty mild. I'm not planning on big suspension or tires.

Yup I'd go with the RAS for offroading for sure for any kind of offroad use. The Sumos just kinda fill the gap, but the RAS dynamically adjusts based on tension, so it's better.

Crewmax or doublecab? I've recently seen a thread here where moderate offroading with a bigger camper in a doublecab made some important bed seams come unwelded, interesting discussion to review at least for doublecab owners. Think that was oriented around a bedside-mounted camper though, not one that sat on the bed directly.

Doublecab. I did read that thread and made my own observations on my truck. I bought it for the sole purpose of doing exactly what turns out to be its weak spot. That's why I am rethinking and I have not ordered the camper yet. It would be a bed side mounted camper with a small cabover. Basically the worst combo. I was trying to think of a way to reinforce that area.

    Thanks for mentioning that.

FWIW I installed the HD kit on my truck last summer to tow our 7,000 lb trailer. It definitely reduced the sag with the trailer hooked up, and just generally firmed things up a bit. No complaints about the ride with an empty bed/no trailer, either.
