Anyone else waiting 6 months for a second fob?

Haven’t recd the letter yet. Probably still have to wait? (Build 5/23, delivered 7/23)

Stopped by my dealer today for a filter and asked about Fobs. He said I have to wait til I receive my official letter before they can order one and set a programming Appt. Also said unfortunately Tundras and I think he said Highlanders are last on the list (frown)

 

My dealer called me today(I'd called them last week and they never got back to me at that point) - to set up my appt for my fob. I'm also having my tonneau recall fix and unfort. the fire recall parts aren't going to be ready till Oct the service rep said. So I'll have to go back for that later.

 

Went in this morning for my second fob.
45 minutes later my truck is complete.
Only took 1 day short of 9 months to arrive…

Received my second FOB yesterday.

What was the month your truck was built?
Mine was March 2023 purchased April 2023.....no 2nd fob yet.

 

My Platinum build date is 5/23. Bought the truck in July. I just got my second key fob, but it was a bit of a nightmare to get. I'm not due for a key fob until next year. I called Engagement and asked if I could get my second key fob because I was using my truck for my business. Without hesitation, the customer service rep said no problem and called my dealer to order the key fob. He called me back and said it would be at the dealer in a couple days.

I called the dealer to pick up my key fob and everyone I spoke to acted like they were the key fob police, telling me I was supposed to wait until my due date, even though Engagement already approved and ordered the key fob for me. WTF? Trying to be nice, I told the dealer, Engagement approved the key fob and it wasn't their decision or business whether I get a key fob early or not.

I called Engagement back and told a different customer service rep the problem and she started telling me I had to wait for my due date. I told her we were already past that as the first customer service rep approved and ordered the key fob already. I asked for a supervisor who finally emailed the dealer to give me my key fob. The point I'm trying to make in this paragraph, is it's a luck of the draw when you call engagement whether they are willing to help you out. You can get a lazy person that just wants to get you off the line and is unwilling to help.

So, I finally setup an appt to get my key fob and have it programmed. I leave the truck and walk down the street to get some lunch. A couple hours later, the dealer calls me and tells me key fob is ready, but Engagement never paid for the key fob. They won't release my truck (yes the whole truck lol) until they get paid. I had to pay out of pocket over $600 to get my key fob and truck.

Now, I'm dealing with Engagement to get refunded. I'm just glad I have a second key fob now. I always felt uncomfortable with just one.

Sorry about the long post and I know some people are going to criticize me for "jumping the line" to get my key fob. Sorry, but I don't like getting screwed by Toyota and the dealer. A-hole dealer never told me I was only getting 1 key fob until I signed the paperwork and handed them my check for full payment of the truck.

They with release your truck back to you because Toyota didn't pay for the part that you were supposed to get from the beginning? Dealers just won't stop amazing me

Thank. Looks like I still have awhile. No hurry as I'm happy vs the the other manufacturers not having full functionality.

 

Toyota has fallen far with customer service and taking advantage of its customers. I've been sitting on an OEM replacement FOB purchased on the internet (125$) since receiving my Tundra November 2022. Dealership would not program it without charging me $400. Decided to ride it out and wait.

 

Oct 2022 build date with Nov 2022 purchase date. Getting my second fob on Thursday

It was on my Toyota App and they contacted me to make an appointment.

 

Got my Key Fob on Thursday 9/7/23. Also had the Tonneau cover fix done at the same time.
Build date was 11/10/22. Purchase date was 12/9/22.

 

Sitting at Toyota right now while the program my second key fob….whooot! 9 months and one week wait. Im not complaining, never really bothered me.

 

Having a hard time believing the chip shortage is still a thing that only effects the key fob. The can make and sell an entire car but the key fob is the deal breaker. mmhmm

 

A little peace of mind… buy an apple AirTag for your key ring. After losing my fob in the couch I bought one. $29.99 insurance.

 

Received my second fob today. Oct 2022 build with Nov purchase.

 

Good idea, but what if it breaks, falls in water, bad guy robs you and throws it in a lake, etc...
I know all my examples are not that probable, but they have happened.

 

Loss is probably the most likely event and it sure does feel good knowing I can grab my phone and find my fob. The AirTag is very accurate.

 

I found this message in my Toyota app. Does it mean my 2nd Key is ready? Or is it just a Pacifier?

 

It means your turn in line to get your second fob has come up. You need to visit the dealer so they can order one and schedule the programming appt. You could try to get them to order it on the phone but I was unsuccessful with that strategy, so 2 visits for me.

went monday 11-sep-23 to setup appt for 2nd fob. had to order the fob and was told 2-3 day delivery timeframe. talked with my usual service manager today and parts came in. setup for 1pm today for 2nd fob programming.

almost 7 months (6 months 3 weeks) from drive off and 2nd fob.
