I have an 03 Corolla I've owned for 13 years it's been an amazing little car. Bought it with 60000 miles and now it has 202000. I have to admit I bought this when I was young and never did much maintenance on it besides oil changes. I have kept it around because my oldest is almost 14 and thought it'd be a good starter car for her but now the clutch is slipping a bit when I change gears. I'm sure it needs to be replaced and wondering if it's worth it and how hard is it? I can do most stuff on my own and I have access to a lift because a friend of mine owns his own auto repair shop. Any tips or feedback would be great!!

It’s not a bad job, especially if your friend owns a shop and is willing to help. A good clutch kit should only run 200-250. Biggest part of that job is labor.
If it runs good otherwise and is in good shape, it would be a fantastic starter car.

It makes me nervous because all my work has been brakes, starter, alternator but I've never dug into a transmission or clutch.

I did the clutch in our ‘01 Corolla a few years ago. Installed an Aisin clutch kit, had the flywheel resurfaced, pretty easy clutch job.

It helps when the transaxle weighs less than most of the many clutches I’ve replaced. (Twin-disc Eaton 15.5” clutches rated for 2050 ft-lbs)

Totally worth the effort if the rest of the car is at least 1/2 solid, especially if you have some pro assistance.

The rest of the Corolla is really good. Paint sucks, it started pitting and tiny rusty spots a few years ago. Other than that it's good.

It appears daunting at first. But the transmission can be out in an hour and a half if your really movin on it with a rack.

an engine support is a must if going about it like this
