Since you're in no rush, I'd pass on that one. There will be others. Like you and everyone has been saying, you'll drive yourself crazy knowing in the back of your head the damage was there.

I’m in the minority, but resale isn’t as important to me because I tend to keep vehicles a long time/mileage (drive the value out of them). I’ve bought two used trucks with unrepaired body damage and had them fixed. Obviously that was part of the negotiation.
As as it’s not structural and the price is right, I’d still be interested.

I am in the same boat as you Chester. This truck is/was intended to replace my ‘04 Ram that has 271k plus. I’m 58 and figure this may be my last new vehicle as I don’t see living to 78 much less be buying a new truck then. The only way this may work, as far as the depreciation aspect goes, is if it doesn’t get reported on the CarFax, and he knocks off a nice chunk of change. This however does not alleviate my concern about questionable body work starting to show over the short to mid term.

To consider it, I would also want some kind of warranty with the body work. Even a realistic one, something like 5-7 year coverage of the panels affected. That way it would CYA for poor craftsmanship.

    $5k off sale price
Extended warranty for the hassle (in good faith from the dealer)
5 year warranty coverage for the body work

With that, I'd be driving the truck home as soon as it was ready.

Since you guys asked, but the salesman said the damage is worse than it appears:
Rear door, 1/4, wheel, and bumper. Looks like the step bar got hit too. What as a******!

You're right, that picture does make it hard to really see. It doesn't seem bad at all in this picture at that angle.

Hate that for you! I had a Frontier hit first week I owned it, similar location. If you decide to try it...get low and look at the paint at the bottom, and crawl under there, look at all bracketry, supports, bolts, etc. Discovered a few years after mine was repaired, they didn't paint the braces, so they were starting to surface rust.

    Eh, thats not TOO bad.

Depending on the discount, the body work warranty (should be lifetime, like any other body shop) and the written guarantee it wont be on the CarFax, I would still consider it.

Plus, replace that wheel, AND gimme the damaged one so I can hang it on my garage wall for a hose reel or something.

Funny you mention the wheel. I would ask for it back just to fix and use as spare.

If YOU are the kind that would know it will be lurking in the back of your mind about it or jolt awake in the middle of the night having nightmares about the back quarter panel falling off, don't get it.
I am one that knowing the history, would fester in my mind forever and ever.
I also plan to keep the vehicle as long as possible, but all it takes is one rattle and the "what if" starts and the rabbit hole gets you nowhere.

Yeah, that'd be a hard pass for me. The sad thing is that if you don't buy it, someone else will at full price and the dealer probably won't say a word about the damage.

I'd negotiate a really steep discount and buy it. There are bunches of brand new vehicles that get damaged with less than ten miles on them that are repaired and sold as new. Don't believe it? Research and learn.

I wonder how many more chances you’ll get to buy a low mileage ‘21 Pro? And since they can easily sell it to the next guy I doubt they’re going to give a big discount on it. How much was the truck?

@joonbug yes, taking it all under consideration. Truck priced in mid 50’s, pre damage. Prob same as sticker when new, which is crazy!!!

But also consider this: TRD PROs are not exactly a dozen a dime. They are hard to come by at best. I know the struggle of wanting to buy this but with such known damage. But the flip side is when are you going to come across another mint/low mileage TRD PRO that's not gonna require a kidney and a liver just to afford it.
Either way, I hope you make a decision that you are the most at rest with, not regretting it two weeks later, or two months, or two year.

I think a lot depends on the dealers legal obligations to disclose the damage on a voluntary basis. I really doubt he could lie about it if asked but will they tell any prospective buyer about it without being asked?

I'd definitely pass. Was in a minor accident with my old truck that was fixed. Paint was fine initially, but over time, it showed more wear. Difficult to match factory paint quality. Unless it is straight PDR, it just isn't worth it in my opinion.

Both sides make great points, which is why I keep flip flopping. It’s simply going to come down to repair quality first, and cost reduction second. Hopefully we put it to bed this weekend either way. Thanks guys, update to follow…

Can you get them to make it CPO? ask them the price it such as old price minus the market insurance claim, once repaired, make the vehicle CPO and throw in extended warranty.

If that's possible, you are pretty safe, the bed honestly looks like it'll be pulled, the door may get replaced.

I don't have a photo, but this one is grabbed off the web:

I've seen damages on roro shipping that's similar like that, and it'll get repair at OEM repair facility, kinda like the one where Toyota slap on all the TRD Pro goodies on a 4runner, and literately sell them without mentioning a word.

@Downytide already listed as CPO. Balance of 100k miles remains, which comes to about 70k miles left and the 7 yrs. resets to 7 yrs. from when I assume ownership. Pretty sweet deal there.

At first I thought you were talking about a new truck, so I would have said absolutely not. But if it is used, and nothing seems to be structural damage, then it might be worth negotiating a good deal.

The cab corner is probably the most difficult part of the whole accident to fix right.
Everything else is a "reskin" and paint and it should be good. If they can fix this corner to your satisfaction, I would say let them fix it and see what discount you can get for diminished value.
White is also a good color to have repainted compared to just about anything else.
