I know this is a Tundra site so........

I was sitting on my sofa, catching up on old threads while I watched football
I have to admit, I enjoy a good rivalry and even more so when tempers flair. But.... Hitting a guy in the head with a helmet is definitely going to far.

And the tackle and hold-down was kinda douchy on MG's part. You could see Rudolph trying to get off the ground and MG just keeping him wrapped, even when the play was obviously away. Doesn't make the face mask grab by Rudolph any better, but I think there's some argument about who started the whole thing vs. who escalated it.

I'm not defending the actions of Garrett, he went to far and I started this thread stating exactly that. But the QB started the whole mess by trying to rip Garret's helmet off and continued to pursue the altercation. Everyone involved should be suspended with Garrett and Pouncey getting the rest of the season off

Back in the day no defensive lineman would have dared do that to Johnny Unitas. One tough ass QB. Back then QB's wore high top shoes and ran over d linemen like the Germans did to the French Maginot Line in WW2

I'm not a stringent Browns fan - I follow the Donkeys - but had been a Garrett fan up until now. He was branded as a great guy who is a physical and talent freak. Then after last night I delved into some of his actual play history and discovered he might be a wolf in sheeps clothing - he's had a ton of late hits that were penalized and some to be considered completely dirty. Tables have turned. He'll lose 10x in endorsement income loss than NFL salary. I hope they land his punishment at a full year from whenever his appeal is thumped.

I read the article and it reads suspended indefinitely but at very least the rest of the 2019 season and post season if they make it. They let wife beaters back in and dog fighters so I see him coming back next year.. not right, but shit likes that makes money for the NFL.

I am a lifelong - that is 48 years Browns fan, lived in Cleveland and northern Ohio for 39 years. Garrett deserves a lifetime ban. He started it, Rudolph was just defending himself while Garrett was trying to mount him on the ground like a pack animal. Then Garrett got a taste of the O-line and Pouncy. This is the worst professional franchise in history of professional sports. Every head coach (except interim and expansion) has a decreased winning percentage from 1988 through last year. That is futility. Haslam has been a horrible owner as were the Lerners. Freddie Kitchens is an embarrassment. Going forward, my knew favorite team is whoever is playing the Browns. I used to empathize with them, now I'm just disgusted by them.

The tackle/sack was late and he basically body slammed Rudolph. That should have been the 1st flag. After that you can see Rudolph was upset and has 1 hand on the face mask and the other wrapped around the helmet while twisting and pulling. Flag # 2. Then Garrett retaliated by grabbing Rudolph face mask and ripping it off.

We can stop there. If Rudolph didn't like the way he was hit or tackled then he needs to have a discussion with the refs and his O line. Garrett should be fined and spend the rest of season at home. I don't blame Pouncey, I think he went to far also but I get why. He should be sitting home with Garrett watching judge Judy every day.

All in all, I'm surprised we don't see this more often. Grown ass men playing a physical, full contact sport is asking for trouble..... I guess that's why we watch

I still have my dad's "leather" helmet he wore when playing football for UC Davis back in the late 30's. My ex-Marine Corps aviator dad would have punked Garrett with one arm tied behind his back......

Honestly the whole league has gone to hell since Kaepernick pulled his bs. Now he’s getting tryouts again.

I'm a hockey fan, that's matching 5 minutes majors for Garret and Pouncey, a few 2 minute minors for Rudolf and a few other, the big one would be a 10 minute/game misconduct for Garrett and everyone gets a fine and plays tomorrow, never mind next week or next season. I'm all for NFL safety for helmet to helmet hits and dangerous plays. This wasnt really that dangerous IMO and I know many will disagree but the NFL is getting soft. It could be worse and obviously is a physical sport buy I see it going like the NBA guys flopping and getting carried off the court after getting bumped into. NHL is far more physical guys fight like boxers, lose a tooth or get stitches and play the next shift.
I get what the NFL is trying to do with zero tolerance and massive suspensions and fines but this was school yard crap and no one got hurt or even close to hurt.

Oh it's been going downhill for quite some time now. I understand Kaepernick and Reed, the NFL and both players could have done something better than letting it escalate the way it did.

I have been straying away from football over the last few years. Partly because of the Kaepernick thing and how the NFL and owners handled the whole thing. The other thing that has been bothering me is the NY Giants, I grew up with the Giants. The Giants are 1 of the old timers in the league and there owners are old timers. I kinda like that but........ In there nearly century long existence, they have only had 1 black QB start "A" game. One game, just 1. After that game (they lost) the head coach lost his job, the general manager lost his job and we went right back to sucking donkey balls.
