V8s will encounter less wear and tear too, plus they appear to be longer lasting. V8s ftw. Might aswell just get a taco with the v6! Plus the whole v6 can tow just not a bunch debate sounds awfully similar to the 4 cylinder 2nd gen tacos ;)

Dunno, I'd pay $2k-4k less and take a V6 if it would do what I needed it to do. That's $2k-4k more I can spend doing other things to the truck. :D

But for the record, I have a V8/4WD like you. Mostly because I occasionally do haul things (not just hauling ass, or hauling my ass), things which are better suited for a V8. Were it not for that, I would've been totally OK with the V6 if a clean, well-taken-care-of V6 truck presented itself in front of me at the right price.

It's all a choice, you do what's best for you and don't judge the next guy for what he's got. Whatever your choice or fortune though, I'll be the last person to bag on someone over it, that's douchebaggery at its finest. I do recognize having a V8 is just overkill for some people's wants or needs.

he was the one who criticized people with v8s who dont need one cause the normal engine isnt good enough for them and they need the biggest and "best"

I'm usually the last person on the planet to criticize anyone unless they're putting others at risk somehow.

But if I criticized anyone for owning a V8, I'd like to see where I did. My comment about 'biggest and best' wasn't criticizing anyone. It was pointing out a common mindset and what that mindset does to the market in general.

I didnt get offended but people easily can. All i was stating is why that happens and why its completely logical. I dont see the benefits of having the v6 over the v8 besides maybe a mile a gallon or 1.5 mpg better in town? Maybe?

Think what you want of me. It sounded like you were really ragging on the V6 over the V8.

@shifty` and yourself both brought up excellent points regarding both engines.

This has turned into a dumpster fire, and I didn't help by throwing thermite into the mix.

Its okay. If 1st gen tundra v8s were rare i would of course pickup a 6 cylinder. They are still great vehicles and better then any competition of similar years. The drivetrain actually might last longer in theory cause of less power stress on everything else. U seem cool and if we were nearby i would totally meetup, nothing wrong with some mutual trolling

    A few things here...

#1) a v6 is great for landscaping. To think a v8 is needed for landscaping is the funniest thing I've read all day. I know a lot of landscapers, they all drive old Toyota pickups or Rangers, mostly 4 cylinders. A first gen tundra with a v6 is like a 2nd gen Tacoma but without the plastic bed, pink taillights, and car-like handling, its like a manly Taco.

#2) somebody mentioned that your average dude wants a v8 but doesn't need it. This is totally true and I don't see it to be a criticism. I had a 4 cylinder truck for a while and could do what I need with that now. If i weren't "emotionally attached" to my truck I would sell it and buy another 93 4 banger and long travel it, but I'm not practical enough.

#3) let's not turn this into a shithole like Vortex.

Unless we want to play like attorneys that's how I read it. Around here the T100 is practically coveted as the crown jewel of landscaping trucks.

Yep, my read was the same, for what it's worth but I always want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Pointing it out carried too much risk of starting an argument, and we all know arguing on the internet is about as pointless as it gets.

Oh, and the T100 is a hugely popular handyman and landscaper truck here in Atlanta metro area as well. I was actually looking at getting one before my dad picked up his 1st pull-behind camper a few years back. Once he did, 1st gen moved to the top of the pile. I wanted that T100 form factor with a V8 and modern towing options, something I wouldn't need to beef up too much to pull his trailer (Dad has a 2018 Tundra).

I literally LOL'd at this post. I was a member over there for a while, I loved my VR6 MKIV GTI. I've owned a couple VWs over the years, nothing pre-90s, abhorrent dealership experience turned me off to the modern brand, words can't adequately describe how much I think Jim Ellis should burn in hell.

I'd do something light first - clear out the front corners! It's an inexpensive mod.

I bought mine for $5,500 from some kid north of town. It had these wheels and no other mods. I went all over it doing upgrades - Koni sport kit, lots of interior mods, lots of underhood stuff. I have tons of pics from when I listed it on eBay. Listed it locally on CL, the kid I bought it from reached out and had the nerve to reach back out to me it looked amazing, then asked me me to sell it back to him for half what I bought it for, ignoring all the work and $3k+ I spent un-feckering all the fecked up shart he did to it.

It was a 5spd with a VR6, NA. I probably got 10mpg with how much fun I was having driving it. It was literally one of the most fun cars I've ever owned, sport-wise.

I had a buddy in 1984? whose parents bought him a brand new red GTI Rabbit. Never been so scared in my life with his driving. He ended up wrecking it with no injuries to himself. He should never been given that car because he was crazy! It handled nicely. Very peppy 5speed? Blaupunkt Stereo sounded great.

Mine was proof positive - and here's where I get this train back on the rails again - you can have a hell of a lot of fun and squeeze a crapload of power out of a 6-cylinder engine. 6-cylinder engines get a lot of grief. Anyone who's driven any of the old GM 3-on-tree trucks with the inline 235 can probably attest to what little torque monsters you can make out of a 6-banger. (I'm sure the Jeep fanatics out there know what I'm talking about).

I have a set of clears in the garage waiting. Eventually I may swap the front bumper for the non-US version, that has no signals and its more stubby, that way I can add the 4Motion lip. Your experience sounds a lot like mine, undoing crappy mods and setting it right. https://www.tundras.com/threads/what-my-wife-hates.44739/

My vote is pro V8. I would not buy a first Gen Tundra without one. That's just me. I smile every time I drive my truck. That V8 Flowmaster sound is darn near unbeatable and really adds to my enjoyment of the truck. I've had a V6 full size Chevy, and it was weak in the towing dept. Don't care about whatever specs support the argument, It lacked the torque of the V8 and struggled with bigger towing jobs. I don't tow a lot now, but if I needed to again, the capability is there, like 4WD, don't use it a lot now, but when I do, I drink Dos XX, or something like that. I only own one truck, it needs to be capable of all the things. The V8 is more capable, sounds better, and has been proven to last forever with proper maintenance. The idea that my needs should reflect everyone else's is ludicrous. You do you, and don't worry about the next guy's choice in the end. Should be able to have discussions here without criticizing someone's choice or opinions. That's what makes this forum better than some of the others I've been on.

OP hasn't been on in 3 weeks. We totally jacked this thread, as per the norm after the first page.

But yeah, I look at v8 and 4wd like I look at guns: I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Cause when you need it, you REALLY need it.
