Supply the parts for the body mounts and lines. They should install them for free.

That's fantastic. Well worth putting the money into. 600 bucks for front brakes is just sad, understanding thats what it costs and not everyone can work on their own vehicle. What ever you can get them to cover will be money in your pocket

No clue yet. As of now it’s getting new frame, brake lines and lower control arms. Ultimately Toyota replaces prieces when asked for approval from the dealer

Seems the average based on readings is in the $4k range. Just curious.

Most of the ones we’ve done it’s been almost no parts... but the guy that does most of em, and me... we’re pretty good at saving things that shouldn’t be saved

$4,500 is still a ton of money. I would do what Empty Lord suggested and buy the parts yourself.

The campaign ended. If the frame was coated your SOL if the frame was not coated, the recall will cover replacement.

Nice. I have an 02 from Cali and it’s pretty mint. Passed frame inspection in 14 and was not under coated. So I should be good to go in ten years? Lol

I dunno, I'm guessing a lot of people would have an issue with forking out hat much $$$ but I personally think it's worth it. If you're not towing the V6 trucks are great. I have a friend next door who's been dying to get into a standard or access cab Gen1 like yours and forking out $4-5k to get a new chassis on a body that looked like that.

I can attest. V6 truck is great, but does lack the power of the V8.

My buddy is just looking one to haul spent grain from his new brewery operation to whoever wants it on donation. V6 is perfect for that. I think a lot of ppl back on them unnecessarily. There's a time and a place for everything. I think the V6 are great for landscape work, courier work, other stuff. Would I haul a 5th wheel behind it? Hell naw. But nt everyone does that kinda stuff.

I mean i dont see how its perfect for landscaping, the v8 does everything the v6 cant. For me i dont need the v8, i only haul around fishing stuff and my kayak. But i still just like to have the v8 under the hood

I towed like crazy with my V6 1st Gen just not more than I felt was safe.
It pulled my 17' Casita all over the country without problems and all I had to do differently was be more patient!

There were a few times where I pulled from STL to S Florida in what turned out to be epic snow and ice storms that I was pretty scared would turn out bad but in the end I just never had an issue of any kind.

Slow and Steady won the day.

And that mindset is why V6 often go 10-20% cheaper all day long, but it's a perpetuation of "you always need to buy the biggest" when not everyone needs the biggest.

It's perfect for landscaping because hauling mulch, hauling plants, hauling limbs, towing a short trailer with a mower or two and misc tools is very doable with V6. The V6 specs are no shrug, it's quite competent and torque-y in its own right. Would I buy one if I knew I'd be hauling a 5th wheel? Hell no. Would I buy one if I just need something to do truck things like moving around furniture and supplies, with light towing, etc? Hell yes.

I personally would not spend $4500 on that 02. Sell it for parts, or whole and use the proceeds and the $4500 to find a truck you actually want. Would you buy someone else's truck if you knew it had been through a total tear down and rebuild for warranty reasons? a little different when it's someone's passion project. Sometimes the "builds of opportunity or convenience" don't make any sense when you step back and take all of your options into consideration. The sentimental builds tend to be the same way. my $.02

There's a lot of confusion with that. 00-03 had a recall for the rear crossmembers IF the frame rails specifically where the crossmembers mounted were too corroded the frame is replaced.
Info on exactly where and under what conditions is here https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2009/RCMN-09V444-0829.pdf

The Limited Service Campaign was valid for all 00-06 trucks for 10mm holes in certain sections of the frame, that was only valid for 10 (may have been extended to 12) years. This is specifically for 04-06 but the info is valid for 00-03 as well. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2014/MC-10131966-9999.pdf

From my understanding with an 00-03 you could have passed the LSC at one point but then later had the frame fail for the recall and still get the frame replaced.

Its because the v8 is more desirable. The main thing 1st gen tundras have going for them is the fact that they are midsized for nowadays standards, and have a v8 in it... that is why everyone wants one. Not because they are compensating and need a bigger engine just cause. People want midsized v8 pickups... also. I have the 3.0 v6 in my 01 camry, opposed to a 4 cylinder, do i need it? Hell no. Does it make the car a lot more enjoyable to drive especially with 4 people in it with the ac blasting? Hell yes. Ill take the bigger engine any day of the week. Same reason if i ever get a older silverado or tahoe it will be with the 5.3l and not the 4.8.
