Having some trouble locating knowledgeable folks for some answers to some questions so I'm hoping we have a FFL in the house for some quick answers?

A little of this and a little of that.
What are your questions? I'm not an FFL, but I might be able to help out a bit.

So I bought a 80% lower then drilled and milled it myself. Put everything together and it's pretty awesome. Custom the way I wanted it. I'm moving to Texas and I'm gonna ship it and want to ship it to an FFL and pick it, that's legal right?

Legal, yes. Necessary, no. You already own it. Just ship it to yourself.

Tried that, neither UPS nor fedex would let me be the sender and receiver. They said it raises questions or some shit. So my build is currently being help by an FFL in texas and he wont release it to me and notified the ATF.

The only problem is UPS and FedEx won't ship a long gun to anyone but an FFL (At least that's how it used to be when I shipped my gun several years ago).

I tried telling the idiot that I have a Top Secret security clearance and work on programs for the department of defense that he will never her about and I would never jeopardize that and he pretty much looked at me like I said I was santa clause.

ya it sucks. I called a couple of gun shops and got different answers which didn't help the situation.

Yikes. I would get your weapon... I mean, property back, then figure this all out. Has to be a way? I would also ask some fellow military buddies. Get a for sure answer-not sh1t on a stick!

Update, Talked to about 3 ATF agents and got my AR. they said I did everything by the law and all is great. If anyone has a questions about the process, I'm here to help since I just went through hell because of a fucktard FFL in fort worth Texas.

ship it to yourself. perfectly legal as you own it. USPS for long guns is OK I think.

You cannot legally ship a manufactured firearm to yourself or anyone else across state lines without an FFL transfer.

I take it back - according to the BATFE:

May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?
Yes. A person may ship a firearm to or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner “in the care of” the out–of–State resident. Upon reaching its destination, persons other than the owner may not open the package or take possession of the firearm.

On a completed gun with an 80 lower (obviously finished), only way to send is FFL - FFL. I was chatting with a couple of my FFL buddies on a conference call about this, and the gunshop owner is a dumbass. The only way that he should have held your weapon is there was something illegal with it (full auto, short barrel without proper paperwork. Etc)

Glad you got everything worked out. Some people haven't warmed up to the 80% weapons yet and make a mountain out of an anthill.

It has to be, or the OP would be in cuffs right now and they would be asking some serious questions on where he got the full auto BCG and a few other little things. Lol

Yeah, I can see why. Some shops in CO deal with ATF agents since they can't sell 30/40 round magazines that are assembled but can sell "rebuild kits" legally. These are nothing more than disassembled 30 round mags.

Yeah, CO lawmakers are morons. After the theater shooting they just "had" to do something. I've never had a 15-20 round mag jam. Can't say the same with a 30-40 round mag.

Congratulations Colorado. You made sure that the next idiot doesn't have a jam.
