I am just doing a search now for a new truck. I have a 2007 tundra short box with 400+K on it. 5 ltr Never a problem.
I am debating on a 3/4 ton chevy or a new Tundra. The chevy has a monster 6.6 ltr engine , brand new, so no word on reliability. It can tow but not sure I need that much. 1/2 ton chevy is only rated for 9k unless you upgrade to the towing packakge and then I think 11k
What is the word on this engine with the twin Turbo? How reliable will it be? How long have they been using them?
I need to be able to haul a 10,000 lbs trailer on a regular basis.
I really like the looks of the new truck.

They have started to trickle in at dealers in Vancouver now. Mostly demos. I have seen the Crew Max’s.

I did call all the dealers looking for a double cab so can view the back seat area. Only one dealer had it. I was concerned it’s much smaller and was hesitant to order without viewing. I confirmed my suspicions. Much tighter back there now.

Hey there Stvtitus ! First of all, wow. 400 000 is very impressive but not rare with the Toyotas of course ;-).

I cannot say much about the Chevy cause I've never bought American cars...

I read the threads, forums, articles and reports as well as watched videos on YouTube about the new engine.

I think it's hard to say with certainty and exactitude if this new motorization will be a fail or win. Nevertheless, I think we have to be careful with the word spraying around, especially about the wastegate trouble, not the turbo itself. Putting everything into perspective, so far they have around 10-15 reported issues with the wastegate. 10-15 out of 10 000 trucks. Following the law of probabilities, I don't think that this is a major concern for now. I am still pretty confident about Toyota. I usually do not buy the first generation of a car/SUV/truck when they renew a model. But, all things considered right now (gaz price, 30% increase in the value of used cars, fuel consumption, new truck capacity), it was the best move for me to let go of my current Tundra.

No one can predict the future but we can look at the past. Toyota has a great reputation for reliability, as opposed to some other competitors. It's a brand new engine unit but nothing new with the technology itself, meaning that turbocharged vehicles have been around for quite some time now.

At this point, I guess it all comes down to your needs and what you intent to do with your next truck in the upcoming years. Is hauling 10 000 lbs everyday for the next 10 to 15 years your only criterion ? I have been professionally driving and hauling trailers (10 000lbs) and boats (large ones) for the last 12 years with F250s, RAM 1500s/2500s, Silverado 1500s/2500s and have encountered some small and big issues. I have owned Toy's for the most part of my life as a driver and never had any problem with them while hauling the equivalent weight or a bit less.

At the end of the day, no one can make the choice for you. Sorry for the long text here but I guess it could all come down to one question. Back in the day, why did you go for a 2007 Tundra ? If your answer matches the current context then, there you have it.

Gateway Toyota has 3 22s: a blueprint SR5, black TRD OR and a silver one they're keeping in the back so I didn't get a close look at it.

I have to say I'm not a fan of the black plastic on the tailgate. I think black will be the way to go on the 3rd Gen.

If I pull the trigger on one, I'm going MGM. I don't think SR5 TRD OR comes in silver in Canada. :(

I gave up on the GMC and put a deposit on 2022 Tundra SR5. It is due here at the end of the Month. I only pull up
to 10,000 lb on a regular basis. As you said what made me buy the 2007 was my belief in Toyota reliability, and it still holds true.

FWIW I stopped in to my dealer where I have a deposit on a Sport (in blueprint). I asked about supply chain issues/QC and they were said everything is still on track for end of March delivery. Good to hear.

Hey, did a quick search but didn't see it come up - can anyone in Canada put up a pic of the key fob? Wondering if you can drop the tailgate remotely? And is remote start only on the app? Sometimes hard to see what's US and what's different on the Canadian models. Cheers.

I think the remote start is like most Toyotas now, 3 click & hold the lock button on FOB will start it. If I recall from test drive, if you get limited & up it has remote tailgate which has a button on FOB as well as bump open by drivers side tail light.

On the key fob - lock, lock, hold lock - works on some USA Tundras, but does not on my CDN LTD.

Remote start on the Toyota "connected services" phone app works great, although it's subscription based. (Free for three years.)

Tailgate locks and drops with the fob.

Great info! I wonder if the key fob thing has to be turned on by dealer first. Like the auto window roll down feature in my RAV4 had to be ( press unlock 2x & hold,) It exists but by default is turned off for some obscure reason.

Good info, thanks. Have a Sport coming so we'll see if it has any functionality. And don't get me started on the subscription bit - poor form cash grab by a giant corporation.

Has anybody who is expecting a hybrid ‘22 gotten any timeframe at all from their dealer as to possible delivery time?

I placed an order for a CrewMax Limited with TRD OFF ROAD option at a dealer in BC around the 2nd week of Jan. Was told this week that it hasn't been allocated yet. Does that sound right? Just wondering how long others waited before they were allocated in Jan and got an ETA.

Possibly, allocation is set by Toyota. I put deposit down around same time (Ont) for the exact same model, but truck was an already allocated build for my dealer ( but not sold) & my expected delivery is sometime in April.

    Thanks for replies peeps.

I haven’t asked and haven’t been provided any comment about allocation from my sales guy.

I signed on/gave CC info for deposit October 5 2021. Makes me wonder if I should poke the bear, and ask my sales guy if he can dig and follow up with me on allocation... should I?

Heck yeah. They work for you. Except, they don't even have to work for you since we're all flocking to pay MSRP....I'd bug him. I put my deposit down Dec. 22 and they found the allocation for my preferred type/colour but now expected delivery is April-ish, no firm build date that I've heard of.

I'd give em a poke and see what's up. I put a deposit down on a truck 2 weeks ago. Fortunately it's a trim/color combo that the dealer has allocated and should be here at the end of May.

The platinum doesn’t come with power running boards or power rear step.

I asked my dealer the same question.

You have to buy the advanced package.

Anecdotal, but I was in talking to my sales guy today ( trying to sort out accessories & tire swap).

I “ordered” my Limited TRD OR that was already on allocation to them, back in mid Jan. Today my expected delivery date is mid April. My sales guy has “sold” a few hundred of them himself (assuming since fall when orders could be taken)- he is one of maybe a dozen sales staff. Service dept said as of today about 4 were delivered to customers, +1 in back lot waiting for PDI & they sold their demo unit, but it’s still on lot. So about 6 trucks delivered.

You guys in Ontario who ordered December and are being told May/June have it good. I ordered October, no allocation yet, and have been told “as late as end of the year is possible”.

something to ponder. The deal with mine was I traded my 17 to the dealer and they order me a truck. It’s in their best interest to sell me one and I want to save the hst but not having a truck for cottage season may bother me a bit.

I ordered mine first week of January. I was initially told somewhere End of March/Beg of April. Did a follow up last week : No updates.

Spoke to another dealership today. I was told there's a year wait to get a 2022 Tundra...yikes...

Looking at the stocks online I see that the dealerships in BC have ''much more'' inventory than the rest of Canada... :-(.

    Can't wait to get mine...
