Screenshot_20231018_201239_DuckDuckGo.jpg Wow no heated steering wheel or mirrors?
So happy Toyota is smarter than the average auto maker.
We will get a 2nd fob, they will have Two Fobs cold hands and fogged up icy mirrors!

Took most folks here about 8 months to get the second key.

Does the dealership have to program the 2nd FOB, or can that be done by the owner?

My dealership is 1-1/2 hours away. If/when my 2nd FOB finally comes in, I'd prefer to have it mailed to me and program it myself, if that's doable.

Yep what @pwpblue said. One thing to note though is any dealer can do it, so if by chance there is another dealer closer then you can have it done there. You just have to call them once you get the notification. Just wanted to throw that out there. It doesn't have to be done at the same dealer where you bought the truck (mine was at a different dealer then where I purchased). Hope that helps for when the time comes.

It does help, thank you! I have a dealership that's an hour closer than the one I bought my truck from.

So, just to be clear, when I get my notification, any dealership will have a 2nd FOB for me?

Correct any dealership can do it. Just have to call them and tell them you received your notification and they will look up your VIN to verify you have the service recall ready, they order the fob and make an appointment to get er programmed and bobs your uncle. I hated the dealership I bought from and called Toyota corporate to verify I had that option months ago to make sure I didn't have to go back to those bastards.

Just got mine, nearly a year after I took ownership. They beat the year by 2 weeks.

Just wasted an hour at my local dealership. Apparently everyone that works at these places is in the disabled category. One hour into the process I asked for a status and they said they didn't even have a key for me. Apparently an appointment means nothing and they can't coordinate simple tasks. Now they're saying the next attempt is going to take 2 hours... To program a key FOB.

Selling my Supra in a few weeks and ditching the tundra next year. If I can stop two people from buying from this god awful brand then I'll take a hit too. Worst dealer network ever. Every time I have to deal with these dunces it's a disaster.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Sounds more like you should be naming the dealer(s) instead of the manufacturer and leaving a google/yelp review. That will get some attention. Don't be an online weeny if you're that tilted.

That will get absolutely no attention, and I only posted the comment here for when others encounter similar shenanigans. Casey Toyota is the dealership, but it's Toyota that caused the root of the issue, and isn't doing anything to make it right. Their dealer network is just garbage, having tried every dealer within a 1.5 hour drive. Sure, weeny is a good term. Thankfully other times I've spent $150,000 plus with a manufacturer they aren't as bad as Toyota and I don't have to be the real problem and act like a weeny .

Shoulda taken $200-$280 of that $150K+ and used it to just buy a fob and move on with life. Some people just don't know how much their time is worth.

Absolutely, I should have been baited and switched into having to buy something that a Kia Forte has included in the price, and then still have to deal with the geniuses at the local dealership to get it associated with the truck. I also should have known to ask about something every new car comes with before I traveled 7 hours to pick up my truck only to find out I get one key after giving them my $78,000. Toyota is the best.

it is a 20 minute job. Do them a favor and eat all of their snacks and drink all of their coffee/juice.... then you will be getting something for the time they made you waste.

If you have Techstream you can do it, but you'll need a locksmith wirh security code decoding access. I found a few that will help for a small fee. Not sure if Toyota will just send you an unprogrammed key through the 2nd FOB shortage program...

I programmed a second key for myself. Still waiting for the 2nd FOB from Toyota.

I guess I'm blessed with a great Dealership, they've not only stepped up but have gone above and beyond! Nourse Toyota!

Maybe I will.... I went to Atlantic Toyota for my appt for the replacement FOB.

Service manager finds me and apologizes that they didnt get the FOB in yet. I make the appt a week ago and never verified if the part is in? (big dealership too, I am sure if I went to parts they have them in stock)
They send me five text message verifying my appt but didnt actually follow up if a part is in stock. WTH!
So there goes 1 - 1 1/2 hours of my life.

The best they offered was that when the part comes in, I dont have to make an appt to drop it off.
This is why I dont like going to the dealership for ANY service.

Thanks! It really isn’t that necessary for me. I’ve never lost a key, or FOB, in my life, so I’m not worried about it. My second FOB will eventually get to me, and it will get thrown in the drawer with all my other spare keys.

It’s kinda funny to me that some guys stress so much over this issue.

Have you logged into your Toyota App on your phone and checked the recall section? Thats where it is. Mine didn't notify me it was just there one day after I logged in here and saw someone reported their Feb build March Delivery had just got theirs (same timeframe as me). I would log in and poke around the recall part of the app to see if you have the notification in there.
