Just bought a 19 platinum, and got my color match door handles and mirror caps in. Ordered a shorty antenna but can't get the original to come loose. I pull hard with an 8 mm wrench but it won't budge. Scared to break something if i manhandle. Anyone know why? Dealer told me something about a nut on bottom side, inside fender well?

Some members have said that there was a little bag in the glove box that had a wrench for getting it off. Other than that, I know nothing about it.

I have tried that plastic tool, but no luck. When i turn it, the base and antenna move together but it never loosens up. Wondered if it was just thread lock needing to be broken loose or if i have to pull inner fender and look in there.

Mine did not have thread lock. I used the plastic wrench and it came free pretty easily. I wonder if they cross threaded yours.

Can you use a non damaging tool to hold the base stationary and then give the antenna hell?

You may need to chase the treads with the correct size tap when you’re done.

I will try my best. I was mainly trying to find out if there is something i'm missing or if i just need to bear down on it and get it out of there.

Opposite of mine. It was loose and I finally put some blue thread lock on it

Don't force it too much or the stud may break because it may be a brass compound. I'd take it back to the dealer and have them work on it. That way, if they break it, it's their problem to fix it.

The base is moving with it, best i can describe is it acts like it's got some serious loctite on it.

Agreed. I don’t think it’s brass but I hear of many people breaking the stud off inside and having to either replace or use a easy out.

OP since your truck is so new, you should make the dealer do it for you. An antenna needs to be removed if you’re going through a car wash. Tell them that’s what you want to do and it won’t come off. Then do yourself a favor and don’t go through a car wash. If all else fails, try a box end wrench.

I had to use a wrench to remove mine but now only install it hand tight. Really freaking hand tight, but hand tight LOL

After some head scratching I have decided to let the dealer deal with it. No sense in me breaking something trying to remove it.. and while they are at it, I've made good friends with the service guys at my local Toyota and they are going to swap the door handles and mirror covers for color match too!
