I don't agree with the lack of power at 60mph I’m not sure where you’re coming from there, I feel the truck performs rather well in that range I can just about pass anything in my way going up the I-17 to Flagstaff, and the soft brake pedal? That must be isolated cases because again I have no issues with brake performance either

Wouldn't exactly call that a typo considering the non-hybrid powertrain has 389 hp..... Doesn't strike me as an instance of hitting the wrong key on the keyboard.

I think they’re a bit late to the party for reviews for these trucks. I’ve seen several side by side comparisons on YouTube that put them very close in performance.

The best was the comment on the plain interior. I think the interior looks great. The camo seats look amazing.

At the end of the day I bought my Tundra for the quality and value. ZR2 owners will find themselves with a highly devalued truck in 2-3 years if not as soon as they drive them off the lot.

The other funny comment was praising the interior of the ZR2. The gM interiors have not evolved much (aside from the dash) from the early 2000’s. That is one of the reasons I could not get warmed up to them. They looked to similar inside than the 3 suburban I had.

first, I like your posts most times, very knowledgable, and entertaining, but maybe its time to just rule out the tundra and move on, it obviously won't work for you, I completely understand.

to answer your question directly about which one I would choose...

simple, I already did choose. the tundra 23 platinum 4x4, its being built soon.

Is it perfect, no. nothing is

I tested out the other trucks and disagree a bit with your broad statements. The GMC 6.2 V8 I drove road like shit and the seats were so bad I couldn't stand it. The trans hunted a bit as well. The tundra hands down road better, not even close. My lifetime made in USA cooler will fit perfect under the factory OEM toyota tonneau (55 quart) , I measured on my test drive.

It felt like it had better torque than my 5.7, which it does and its lower RPM which was nice on the test drive, that and the 10 speed were pretty darn impressive. I bet with all the updates (TSBs) since then its even better.

The Ford powerboost I tested broke down on the test drive and the powertrain was clunky as hell at low speeds. The tundra also road better with the rear coils. it was more expensive than the tundra is trim to trim I was shopping.

it hauls and tows just fine for 1/2 ton duties, if you need more payload or towing than its rated for I would personally be in a 3/4 ton anyways, but I do understand some people want to pull around 12K+ in a half ton or haul 2,000 lbs cargo in a crewcut 4x4 short bed. For me, I don't give a shit about off-road, but they do sell a 3" lift right from toyota that seems to be nice from what I have read.

so anyways, Im looking forward to mine, hopefully it gets here soon. Do I hope it turns out to be reliable, I sure do, we will see. Im no leg humper so if it's shitty, I will say it. But the others were not better from what I tested.

I don't care what Motor Trend says.

I'm still buying a Tundra (build date 2-23!) I will NEVER own a POS GM product. GM products have consistently been garbage my entire lifetime. Not interested in risking my hard earned $$$ on a GM lemon.

Standard fare. This is awesome. OP still bitchin that Toyota didn’t build to his specific specs, has amnesia regarding past gen problems and can’t wait for the next scathing review instead of listening to those of us that actually own the truck. Are there issues? Of course, what complete redesign doesn’t?

The fact that anyone without access to a 3rd Gen makes contrary posts on a forum about 3rd gens speaks volumes to intentions. Satire and comedy aside, if your one goal is to make regular people feel bad about what they have purchased you really need to assess your life goals.

Do you even own a Gen3 Tundra? It seems like you don’t, but just love to come in the Gen3 forum to troll and throw shade. Yes, yes we all get it the new Tundra’s garbage, all the domestic brands are better, and Gen2’s will someday rule the world. You do realize everything they say about the Gen3 is exactly the same things they said about both the Gen1 and Gen2 when they came out.

There's a delicious irony in 2nd/2.5 genners believing they have a truck superior to a 3rd gen when their truck is actually greatly inferior to a 1st Gen, which was, is and always will be the Best Gen.

We should start judging all 2nd Gen owners for being poor simpletons who can’t get a loan and don’t have enough cash for a new truck in 2023.

    Pathetic losers!!

This is actually a solid point. My supervisor was in the process of purchasing a 2022 GMC 2500HD (or 3500) AT4 when the salesman said "some features do not work yet. We will give you a IOU and when they come in (up to 1 year) we will take the truck appart and install the modules." He said "Sooooooo...what's on the used lot?" His line of thinking was once a dash comes apart it just never goes back like the factory.

Sad thing the brand new truck was $77K but was an AT4. The 2020 Denali 3500 with 13K miles was 82500.00.

So in that line of thinking, Lexus must pay Motortrend more than anyone else right? Cuz Lexus is at the top sir. Or maybe....just maybe Lexus deserves that spot. Something to consider...

We all love Toyota trucks on this forum and I think we all want the new tundra to be awesome and it just leaves a bad taste in one's mouth for future vehicles or upgrades we would want from the brand if new stuff disappoints you.

I don't look at this as a good comparison. I know, I know...the Pro is the the top off-road what Toyota offers in the Tundra lineup.

They pitted a truck with a taller lift/tires, front locker against a truck with a modest lift, smaller tires, and a rear locker. Sorry, the Pro really didn't have a chance at winning this shootout in my opinion. This is truly a apples to tomatoes comparison. Both are fruits and red...but somehow not the same in comparison.

@MadMaxCanon. All the 3rd gen owners get it. No one wants the Tundra to be awesome more than the actual owners. But to continuously post anything negative the OP can find is nothing but trolling. If it leaves a “ bad taste”, then all those non-owners should wash out their mouths with another brand.

I agree, and I regret trading in my ecoD Ram for my TRD sport.

These are literally the ONLY positive things I find about the new gen3 Tundra:
    • Motor/Tranny 10spd, Twin Turbo V6
    • Exterior Looks
Everything else, is just MEH, there is no known reliability since this truck has been in consumer's hands for like 1 year. We keep acting like we have seen these motors/trannies with 2-300k miles and 5+ years of use already, we havent.

The fit and finish of this truck is years behind what Toyota is known for, ive had like 10+ Toyota's dating back to 1987 and none were this poorly put together, its as if Toyota threw out their entire quality manual and produced this vehicle in the middle of a pandemic

Also I roflmao when ppl compare interiors to new Tundras, this 56k truck literally has like 1 shade of plastic matte grey in the interior, its pretty poorly put together with extreme flashing around all the plastic trim pieces (where it should not have left the mold to be installed on the floor and stopped at the QA/QC check points imo)

I have like 10+ speed bumps at work, both trucks unloaded, the ram glided over the speed bumps - controlled and smooth, the tundra bounces over them like the truck is still on leaf springs. Its almost like Ram has solidified their coil/shock rear suspension making it ride like a car over years of R&D, and the Toyota feels like their first attempt which still rides like a leaf spring truck

I liked that in mine , it gives you more room etc than a shifter there. But to each his own, the ZF 8 was butter smooth and fast though one of the best trans I have ever driven . But mine was imported as it was one of the first ones built from zf direct before Chrysler started building them under license from what I remember , I had a 2013 sport 350 hemi with 3.92 and zf 8 trans , had some really nice things about it

I agree with this. They seem to justify the exclusion of the TRX and Raptor from the comparison because they are more expensive but, they use a ZR2 with an "as tested" price that's more than a Raptor. $7500 price difference is significant (though I realize it wasn't a value comparison article). I think it would be tough to build up a Chevy for $7500 less than the TRD Pro and have it compare as favorably.
I'm not a Chevy hater. I had 80,000 problem free miles on my 2019 AT4 when I traded for a 2023 SR5. The AT4 was great but I was able to get a Tundra for $10K less vs. a GMC with the features I wanted (360 degree camera, digital camera rearview mirror, large fuel tank, etc...) and have no regrets.
The only thing that article convinced me of: if I get into hard core off roading (and a $7500 price difference doesn't matter to me)- get a Raptor or TRX.

I agree, passing is a breeze and towing is quite enjoyable. I don’t have a previous generation to compare it to, but these trucks have all kinds of power on demand.

I drove a new Silverado as a rental when my 08 was totaled in December, started looking for a new truck. I liked the GMC but couldn’t get the features I wanted even at 68K because of their chip shortage. I also thought the GMC’s interior - Silverado also were unchanged since 1985. I thought they all basically drove the same. Thing is I carry dirt bikes and drive down dirt roads, no real 4 wheeling. Im happy with my choice in my 23 Tundra Limited. I also don't appear to have all the issues here on this forum. Compared to my worn out 08 with 286K its a dream. Dont get me wrong my 08 was a great truck. My brother and SIL have new Dodge Ram truck, they are nice also but don't stand out in any way, and both already have the dam exhaust manifold issue Dodge has known about for 10 years ;). Thing is I think they are all pretty good but Ill take my chances on Toyota any day.
