I have read about all the problems with the IBC and today I hooked a trailer for the first time and got the disconnect error message. I will try the dealer first but my dilemma is I need to trailer a car tomorrow. If the IBC decides to work then great but I am not sure I want to haul a car with no trailer brakes. The lights on the trailer work even with the disconnect message. Would you still haul the car with error message or get it fixed first?

are you renting a trailer from U-haul? or using some other trailer to move the vehicle?

if so - if Uhaul - they usually have integrated brakes on their trailers - just the momentum based brakes...and only need the 4 pin connector on the rear trailer connection.

I have noticed the IBC is very finicky. I didn't have any issues at first but had a software reflash and now have had the error a few times.
    Tip# 1
If connecting trailer to the truck while running i have seen the error. I shut the truck down and re-start. This has worked several times.
    Tip#2
check your trailer harness 7-pin socket. My buddy borrowed my trailer with his 2500 Silverado, either the connectors are a thicker gauge on his truck or there was some incident that expanding the connector prongs
I re-bent the prongs on the trailer side to reduce the gap and improve contact. I re-tried connection and it was successful.
From a liability standpoint, you should get it fixed first.
The general population has no concept of required braking distances for trucks with trailers. It only takes 1 person to cut in front of you and slam on the brakes to put you at fault.
