I was aware of all the correct settings and tried them all. I feed the signal out of the HU to an AudioControl DSP and was never satisfied with the audio, again my expectations of audio, even in a vehicle is more than most people...

I really loved the HU, the implementation and design, just needs some time to mature and will reconsider if some of the bugs/issues get resolved one being the HVAC in limited and above. The HVAC works, the reported temperature readings are incorrect, the developer is working on a fix.

Was it at least equal to the stock HU? I'm not getting one...think I'm going with JL stuff and keep my HU. I'm just curious.

No, both were feeding the signal to the AC DSP that interfaced with my 4-channel and sub amps. The stock HU was much better in the same setup. From others, strictly stock speaking 1:1 the Tesla HU had more volume and improved sound, just not in my setup.

The Kenwood 9904 is much better than both, stock and Tesla HU by far, no comparison.

I believe that you might have had a faulty radio because most of all the other people who have installed this unit have had better sound out of the stock speakers then the factory unit. For me the sound is way better.
With the backup camera It will work as soon as you start the vehicle, even when the unit is in bootup mode or will allow the camera to work.

The only issue I have had is the known HVAC number problem but for me it isnt an real issue, and they are working a fix so I am good.

For the cost, size, internet options and the sound improvement with the stock jbl speaker's. I am very satisfied with the unit and it will hold me over just fine till the 4th gen Tundras become available.

I will agree with @AK-in-MI, the sound was a lot better then the stock unit. But i do only have the basic sr5 speakers. My tesla worked great just to much for me especially having to by a hotspot to use it.

I am quite happy with the AHU.

It sounds better than my stock unit. (I have non-JBL w/out NAV)
I tether to my phone so I get all the Android apps I want!!! (How awesome is that!)
My HVAC works great. (I have an SR5)
All in all I am glad I have it.

Are there some things that could be better? Of course.
Wished it would use my stock mic vs the front bezel Mic. (That is something that could be rewired)
Wished it had a better BT dialer that allowed me to program some speed dials. (Just got to find a different app)
Leds were wrong color. (Used the blue elec tape and acrylic disc to fix)

Again best $533 I could have spent for an AHU. (Got additional discount in group buy for signing up to newsletter)
And it has a 12inch screen!!!

1971sport- Did you figure out what that update might have done?
I am curious exactly what this update.img does?

    Thanks,

Has anyone tried to use pdaNet app to do a free tether to the tablet? Might be a way around having to buy a hotspot.

I still have it a love it. It does everything need and want. The only thing I wish it had was true bluetooth so we can get phone notifications on the HU display or connect ODBII BT scanners. Everyone that's ridden with are awed with the unit. Maybe we will get BT support for 3rd party devices as well as auto dimming in a future update.

After recording a data log while working all HVAC controls and reviewing the data i sent here is the most recent email from phoenix.

They said that after looking at the data, they believe the a/c module side is the same as they have already gathered. They said that they may have to come to the US to hook up the devices with the truck to gather data to see what the differences are from the vehicle side.
