The two screws on the top of head unit itself is preventing it from going in properly, shave the two spots down on the truck itself and you should be good.

Also make sure you tuck in all cords and wires as far back as you can. They tend to hang down and get in the way which causes the top clips from completely engaging.

Take a look at post #861 for the notches and #984 for reliving pressure from the wire harness. If all else fails to keep it in place attach something elastic to the HU then reach in the speaker hole give it a tug and attach to cut out for the speaker hole.

I got in from the group buy from facebook and when doing some searching I found this. I just finished reading all 36 pages so thought I would join.

I installed mine last weekend and has anyone ran into issues with Bluetooth? I have an iTouch loaded with music that I can't seem to get working right. I am able to connect, change sounds, see the music playing, but not getting any sound. I have sent them a few emails with them slow to respond at first and now not responding at all.

Another thing that I am not quite happy about is them trying to fake the Android version. It says 6.0.1 but if you keep tapping on the OS version you will get the "K" logo from kitkat (Android 4.4). If you install AIDA64 app and it will shop API=19 KitKat (https://source.android.com/setup/build-numbers).

I am not 100% happy with it but besides the Bluetooth issue (and that can't use it for anything other than phone/music) and trying to fake the OS version I haven't had any issues with it. Still on the fence if I am going to keep it or return it right now.

Well, to anyone who does not have this unit or doesnt want to pay the outrageous price for it I will be posting it on here for $400 shipped. It is up to date with firmware. No issues minus the not being able to connect to my note8. I paid 550 for it my loss ur gain just to much tech for me love the screen though lol. So if any one is interested pm me.

I have had no issues with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, the HU recognizes them as long as they are both on prior to start up.

I am still on the fence and this has been an adventure to say the least, great concept but poorly implemented. I am waiting for the HVAC fix and will make my mind up then, have this in my cart at Cruthchfild, Kenwood Excelon DDX9904S.

I was about to box it up this weekend, but the seller/engineer provided me a fix to address my issues which is the following:

"Go to factory mode settings, change air supplier to default, reboot, and then select cartype to tantu lo, and reboot, then select cartype to tantu hi and reboot."

I had lost all HVAC controls, no steering wheel controls, no OBD2/gauges. The HU is very buggy when making changes and reverting back doesn't always fix the issue.

I agree with guyp2k too many issues with it. Lots of work to get it right for "plug and play" . They've sold 100's if these I see them posted everywhere. They still can't get it right in my opinion. But it does look bada$$ installed.

Has anybody heard back from the “engineers” that got the factory hvac controls sent to them? I’m eyeing this unit but slightly apprehensive. I am (fairly) technologically savvy so I’m sure with the help of this thread I could figure a majority out. Just seems there is a certain issue with hvac. Even if it is just the way it’s displayed.

Yes. They are working on an update for this right now. The last I was told is that the update should be available within a week or 2. It is mainly a coding error. They are working on fixing that and will be putting out an update with that fix.

One of the forum members sent their HVAC module to the developer/engineer and the fix is suppose to be this week, wouldn't hold my breath though...

The HVAC controls work, but for Limited and above the temperatures settings/readings are incorrect.

Look at the specs. The one from Phoenix that we had the previous group buy was $550 for the 2gb RAM 64gb ROM. The only one I saw on espony was for 1gb 16gb which was a few months ago.

This is from the current espony unit:

    Hardware parameters:

    Platform: Rock chip Cortex-A9 ARM

    CPU:pX3 quad core

    Dominant frequency:1.6 Ghz

    RAM:DDR3 2GB

    Internal storage space:32G(can support 64G)

    ________________________

Not sure what they mean when they say "can support 64gb". Is it 32gb or 64gb?

This makes me wonder if the board has options to expand the unit or if it is all on board. Like with computers when you buy them they may say 12gb of ram support up to 16gb.

Oh, yeah. That is the difference. The one from Espony had 2 gig ram and 32 gig rom. They say it can be expanded, but I am not sure how. Other than that, there is no difference. And, Phoenix offers a same one with that capacity.

Has anybody found a replacement app for the Bluetooth Dialer? The stock one does not allow for the saving of favorites/speed dial (at least that I could find). You have to search for a contact if you have not called them lately or use the latest called list. It would be nice to have some speed dials.

I did the acrylic disc install to tone down those blinding "Halo" lights around the knobs. I had the ebay seller (Inspired Laser Design ebay item#152116194838) cut to size of 39mm outside and 21.7mm inside to form a ring that fit very well. I picked the normal blue color NOT the light or transparent blue. They turned out nice and really cut down the glare.

Now I am just looking for small things like a different BT dialer.

I even found an app to automatically turn on/off my phone's hotspot when I connect/disconnect to the BT. (Hot Spot Starter by Thomas Junge) Seems you have to be rooted to get full functionally but non-rooted it still turns ON the hotspot but seems to have a permission issue assigning an IP but all you have to do is manually cycle the hotspot back OFF then right back ON and voila HU connected to the Internet! The most important is it turns the hotshot OFF when you disconnect from the BT (that is a more important feature since I always forget to turn it off and tend to run down my phone's battery)

All-in-all I am quite pleased with the HU and am glad I bought it. Great Christmas gift to myself.

I don’t think you should have to be technologically savvy to make a head unit work in any vehicle. This HU unit is just poorly implemented and the company fed on all the buyers who were wowed by the “Tesla” screen. I agree it looks awesome, but not worth all the hassles that come with it. I truly hope those that have it make it operate as it is supposed to.

This is a poster child of you get what you pay for in my opinion. There’s a reason why this HU cost 1/2 of what reputable nav HU cost

While I agree with you to an extent the one point that many are missing here is no, if you want a standard double din touchscreen HU that is fairly limited in capability by the manufacturer then you shouldn’t have to work things out. But if you want a first gen freakin huge screen mobile computer in your dash than expect some hiccups.
At any rate I spoke with the person at Phoenix android and was told that the packaging has been dealt with (due to cracked units) and the engineer is currently solving the HVAC issue. The fix will be via update to the software. I’m sure with enough reminding from us it’ll happen soon.

I was just at my Toyota dealership for an oil change and was in the showroom smelling the new car smell and looking over a new highlander for the wife. As I was passed by a Prius noticed the size of the HU that stopped me in my tracks. I did check on line and it's size is 11.6 and the cost of the package to get the Tesla style Interior added $34,000 to the car base price.
    https://www.autotrader.com/car-reviews/2018-toyota-prius-prime-long-term-introduction-268631
Now after missing the first group buy for the Phoenix by one day, I got it with with a little begging for $630. As for the shipping i could tell I was very lucky and regret not paying extra for shipping.
With that said I feel lucky if not fortunate to have a HU with the size, sound improvement and the ability to do just about anything I can do with my Samsung S8 ($700+)in my 2016 Tundra ($50,000) for only $630
The big screens are coming but I will bet you will pay a good price for them.

when I first got my Tundra brand new ( $35,000) it had bugs and Glitches and the mods i've done over the years which I wonder why the engineers didn't do in the first place. so its nothing new to me
