They let the 2nd gens lead..... :boink::rofl:

In all seriousness, it's a slick hill and they probably just had too little space between each other. Got going too fast, first guy tried to go left on a fork and slid into the tree, second went right to try and dodge him but got caught as the first guys ass end swung out, third guy tried to go left around him and couldn't make it turn, and the last guy couldn't stop. Just my guess based on other photos and the directions their wheels are turned.

One at a time down the hill would have made this a 1 truck issue instead of 4. Just my thoughts.

And this is why I liked to be the slow one on canyon runs... LOL.... Leading a pack is fun, but leading to a 5 car pile up is priceless....

How bad is the damage to your truck??
Did anyone get anything worse than body/bumper damage?
I realize how expensive body repair can be, but it’s not like structural stuff

Wow! I’m so confused by this. Hope no one was injured other than financially and you all made it out and hopefully learned something. A postmortem might help others in the future. What could have been done to avoid this level of carnage in hindsight. What decisions failed you.

Ray, I wasn't involved in this mess. Apparently, a group in Colorado. Word has it that no one was hurt except for sheet metal and pride. I wonder what are the chances that two of them have the same insurance carrier?

Just went on my first adventures in the snow in a rented 4runner in Colorado, we hit up tons of trails. On the Slaughterhouse Gulch trail, one hill was icy and we slid back about 60ft when trying to go up. No traction at all. Thank God nothing was behind us. Other than that I took my time, went slow, and all went well. The 4runner was a beast. The blizzak tires had tons of grip. I could definitely see a pile up happening on an icy trail. And if you need a good rental to hit trails outside of Denver check out Titus. They're outfitted with rci skids and sliders, blizzak tires in the winter, KO2s in the summer, and toytech suspension, check them out. Can also rent all kinds of stuff like rooftop tents and camping gear from them. Just wanted to spread the word cause I had a great experience with them. They have several vehicles to choose from. All toyota and one Lexus. Resized_20201222_160432.jpg 20201222_150633.jpg

To be fair, once they were on the hill it might have been too late. I’ve slid down a trail I had just driven up with no difficulty and had to let off the brakes to be able to steer around trees. Fortunately no one was in front of me. Lesson might simply be: Snow wheeling requires appropriate trail selection. (In addition to better tires, trail comms, better spacing, etc.)

I saw a couple of these trucks when we were searching for a Christmas tree near Winter Park. I was wondering what the story was.

After seeing what the other rental places had to offer I was unimpressed. I planned on driving the tundra up and hit some trails, but we decided to fly to have more time up here once we found these guys. Was only a couple hundred more than a Wrangler from enterprise or some other rental place. Totally worth it. Not sure my tundra would have made those hills without a locker, it might have because of the weight, but hard to say for sure. I used the locker quite a few times to get up some of the hills.

And the appropriate vehicle: short wheel base, high ground clearance, light weight...not a Tundra. Jeep, Defender, etc.

Respectfully, wouldn't have mattered what vehicle it was without some better traction devices. Chains, for example. That's a slick hill and anything not better equipped would have slid.

I certainly agree that it should be properly equipped, but a Tundra ain't the right equipment. You can raise it, give it the best off road tires, chains, etc. You can't give it the articulation, wheelbase, or nimbleness of vehicles made to do that. Maybe it's that part of me that grew up in the shadow of the original jeep plant, but I just don't understand "offroading" in full size trucks.

Kind of like watching an episode of Tosh.0. I don't wish any harm, but ignorance can be extremely entertaining.
