AMP steps coming in today, any install tips

    just like the title says, my non PnP amp steps are arriving today and i will be installing them tomorrow. any install tips from those that have done them before? ive read the directions and they dont seem overly complicated. thanks in advance for the help!

    They're fairly easy to do, just follow the directions step for step. A few tips after installing close to 100 sets....
    Spray some white lithium grease on the gears before mounting the motor to the linkage.

    A little dielectric grease in the plugs will go a long way towards preventing corrosion.

    Start the cap screws that hold the boards to the linkage but don't fully tighten. After everything is hooked up, cycle the boards a few times and then tighten. This will prevent binding and will allow the board to settle evenly from end to end.

    The amp wires are color matched to the door trigger wires. But if you are going to test the truck wires they'll go to ground with the door open. Hold your tester on the wire and have someone push the black plunger on the door jamb and the wire will test positive.

    Everything else should be easy peezy. Good luck!

    Also the little grommets for the plastic motor cover suck so I used zip ties, they are firmer and close tighter!

    Also I bought extra long zip ties and zip tied the harness and wires firmly!

    The instruction are pretty easy to follow!

    I did cross the control purple wires wrong and thanks to duece292 above, I rewired them correctly, purple with tiny black streak to the same, and plain purple to plain purple!

    The 2018 and 2017 wiring is completely different and the instructions don't address that. Luckily somebody figured it out in the thread below, it starts in post #16.

    I really want to buy these for my 2018 Tundra. Are there any issues with ice and snow? I live in Idaho and we definitely get our fair share of snow.

    Nice truck and thanks for the reply!

    I've read that they can freeze and can burn out the motor. I'm wondering if they come with a toggle to turn them on/off or if a person could add a toggle to disable them.

    I had electric running boards on my last two F-150s, they were OEM but are manufactured by Amp for Ford. Long story short, the Ford owner's manual advises to turn them off if there is chance of them freezing (I.e. slush or freezing rain). I followed the instructions and never had a problem. Take it for what its worth.

    No, I had the choice of three modes which I could access/select through the settings menu in the instrument cluster: automatic, lowered, off. If your steps don't come with a switch you could always add one to interrupt the main power to the controller or relay.

    If you have the Pnp like mine, you just unplug the module that connects to the in cabin computer hook up under the steering wheel on the left!

    i finally got them installed. took about 4 hrs by myself. nothing was hard except for the stupid plastic rivets to put the cover on the motor. i damn near cut my finger off trying to use a screw driver to press it in. slipped and caught my finger. but in the end it was a very straight forward install. only disappointment is the shitty lights that amp uses. ill definitely be replacing them with something better soon.
    my kids were very excited when i picked them up from school. my 4yr old can get i by herself now.
    for anybody on the fence about these get them. i know that sliders are what all the cool kids are running but i just dont have a need for those. these fit my needs perfectly. there when i need them and hidden when i dont. ill get some pics up soon when i have some light out.

    I hated those cheap rivers so I chucked them and used zip ties and they zipped tight and not rattle at all, like the rivets!

    Let me know what you replace the amp leds with, I want to change mine out as well!

    Funny, I ended up using zip ties too. So much easier.
    I'll keep you posted on the lights. I've looked at the KC cyclones, looks like and awesome light just don't want it to new too much.

    Yeah the amp leds are cheesy and yeah new ones not to bright but better them amps !

    Also it feels like getting into a luxury truck and seeing people staring when they open and close priceless

    I used zip ties too. One of the rivets broke when I was installing so took the other out and used zip ties. As far as using their LEDs goes, I chose not to use them at all. My truck has puddle lights so IP don't need the LEDs - wife wanted to try without and likes it this way. I just used electrical tape on the connectors on the harness end and taped them to the harness. I had AMP PowerSteps on my Silverado and their LEDs kept dying. Not impressed with their LEDs, but love the steps and their customer service was great.

    Plus they are kind of purple. If thats the worst i can deal with that. Kc cyclones are $100 for 4. I'll probably just go that route and have tons of light
