Nope, you have the right part. The second picture is an optional splitter in case you have more than one item you need to plug into the OBD port.

two wires will come from the pnp wiring harness up through a grommet under the driver's floor. they splice onto the connector you have pictured that plugs into the obdii port. That is what triggers the steps to drop and retract.

I had the PNP version on my Silverado...just like the top picture...I added the harness in the bottom picture because I was always going to the dealer for "software calibrations" to fix issues and they were always unplugging my PNP to the PowerSteps...this harness allowed the PNP to stay plugged in while the service techs messed around with software updates...you won't have that headache (not many sw updates on the Tundy)! I have the hard wired version on my Tundy...

I may get that harness, when the dealer pulled out the harness each time, does it reset the AMP's or is it just a matter of unplugging and having to plug back in that you didnt like!

    Thanks

Pulling the harness from the OBDII port will just keep your steps retracted. The AMPs only get door open signals from that OBDII plug.

Nope, the steps are only looking for door ajar signals, I have the non-PnP and you tap into the door switch inputs for all the doors on install. I went that way as I don't like blocking my OBD port.

You don't need the extra harness...In two years of owning my Tundy, I've only had one update (for the IBC)...in two years of owning my Silvy, I had 7 updates and counting...:)

Thanks Chuck, eI'll not get that extra harness as long as all they have to do is unplug and update then plug back in! I just didn't know if it would hamper the service people at Toyota when going to update!

The above reference to SVC leads to Best Top brand power boards. Are these the same as the AMP steps? They appear to have some kind of wireless interface that triggers the steps.

The Bestop power steps use a wireless sending unit on each door to trigger the steps as I recall. As with many wireless units, they require batteries - not sure how often. The PNP is fairly new to the Tundra, but in 2014 I had the PNP on my Silverado. Unfortunately, the Silverado had some compatibility issues with anything connected to the OBD port, so every once in a while, the steps would not deploy. Also, it had to receive many software updates and the dealer service people left them unplugged several times - it did NOT cause any issues, but it was an inconvenience to them (and me when left unplugged). So I bought the additional harness - still had errors periodically, but saved me the service hassle.

When I bought the AMP PowerSteps for my Tundra, the PNP was not available yet or I would have considered them. My comment regarding service was meant to be sarcastic since the Silverado required a lot more service than my Tundra has for the same ownership period.

Another point: I researched various power steps in 2014 - I found that the Bestop steps' warranty was much shorter than AMP PowerSteps and there were many references to bad blood between AMP and Bestop.

They have been installed in the 18's, email AMP and they will verify!

Yep, 5 year warranty on the AMP's is a good thing!

My PNP have been installed since Nov '16. NEVER once had a malfunction. They work every time whether 2' of snow, sand , rain, etc.

That's awesome and good to hear. I think the issues I had with Silverado PNP were because the buss had general issues.

When I called AMP they said the PNP will not work with th 2018 and they did not have and estimated date on when they may. They do offer the AMP extreme power steps now for 2018 but not PNP either. Trying to get some on mine but can't decide if won't to wait for the PNP or just go ahead and get them wired

I bought the PNP for my 2017 and glad I did, it was so easy! If I had a 2018, I would defiantly wait for the PNP being I'm no expert and liked the fact the PNP was so simple! Good Luck!

finally ordered my steps last night, amp step but went with bestop bed step for rear, seems like some people having issues with the mounting position of the amp bedstep hitting bumpers
