Well that's interesting! So the step runs off the OBDII port. Seems straightforward to install. Interesting...

This particular version is also the XL spec, so it is designed for those who have their trucks lifted (3" lower than regular).

Anybody else getting "Find a Dealer" instead of being able to purchase it online?

Edit: Missed where it directed you to Real Truck, but they dont have any in stock.

Once available, I'll be the guinea pig for this.

    Update, per Amp:

We currently have them on order but they are on a 6 month back order so I don't really know when we are expecting them back in stock. I would just check back in periodically as stock levels change on these regularly

The standard steps for that vehicle are not released from our engineering team yet. We dont have a current ETA.

Finally, only mounted mine in the extended position. Still need to make a harness. Really wanted then on for vacation though.

These steps continue to be magic vaporware.

I added TRD fixed ones "temporarily" when I bought the truck last March but most likely going to just give up on these power boards in disgust and permanently keep the TRDs.

If you're electrically inclined, buy the OEM power steps.

I would if there was a way to plug them in to the BCM to make them work. The BCM had to be programmed/wired to support the OEM steps from the factory. Wiring is easy. Messing with expensive car computers, not so much.

Even the AMP Research steps require a plug to the OBDII port to function (its in the instructions for them). IDK why so complex, but they are.

On a side note, has anyone bought their side bed steps? Any good?

There is a separate ECU just for the steps. There are a few wires that tie into the existing truck harness. I don't believe there's any programming to be done. I'm thinking the interface is just to get the door triggers. Now that I have my steps on, maybe I'll get motivated to make a harness. I have all the OEM connectors to make a plug and play. Besides connecting to the truck itself. Also on the aftermarket ones plugging into the obd2 connector, I think that's cause it's easier to get the door triggers from there versus 4 separate wires. There's a lot of information you can get through the obd2 port.

@Rockgate so you're saying that to use OEM steps you need a separate ECU and a tie in to one of the wiring harnesses?

Yes. There is a separate ECU that controls the steps. And I believe the tie in is so the separate ECU knows when to operate. (Door triggers) I posted a list of the components needed for putting the factory steps on.
@War Machine , what about them do you not like?

The OBD2 connection is not required for the AMP steps, that is an optional installation and requires an optional part. The standard installation uses wire taps on the door trigger wires which are also identified in the instructions. If I were ever to get these steps... that is if they ever make them in standard variety for double cab (not holding my breath) I'd just tap the wires. They might have them to market for 3rd gen Tundras by the time Toyota starts building 4th gen. LOL.

Edit: Looking at the directions again it looks like it needs the wire taps AND the OBD2 plug. On previous gens I believe you could do it totally w/o the OBD connection.

I put Amp steps on my 2014 and 2019. Neither required an obd2 connection. They had an option for plug n play with the obd2.

willing to bet the ODB version is purely plug and play vs tap with the basic version

That's what I'm hoping for, plug and play. I really dont want to take apart the truck to route door sensors. I did it for our Wrangler, but they seem more made to pull apart and put back together.

What don't you like about them? I have the factory power steps on my 1794 and I love them.

Just a personal preference. I don’t understand the benefit of them retracting. I prefer they stay out to protect from door dings, so I end up just hitting the button to leave them out when I park in parking lots.
I don’t care for the look of them either.

I agree. I love the function of power steps, but the door ding protection, plus the extra safe guard from rocks ejecting off of my tires made me go back to fixed running boards. I ran AMP's on my last truck and had to do some gigantic mud flaps to keep from chipping the hell out of my doors/rockers.

Fair enough, and good point about the door ding protection. I like the retractability function as I think it gives the truck an streamlined look once they retract.

If it is like the previous gens with standard non-PnP installation you don't have to take the truck apart to route wires to the doors. You just tap a couple of wires in one of the bundles under the kick panel.

I have them on my Pro and really like them. They came with the truck when I bought it a couple years ago. That said, I'm going to remove them for some real sliders so they'll be up for sale. My wife will be disappointed... they really are nice. Just don't provide slider like protection and I'll need that.

If interested in buying, it's OBDII plug and play and I'll sell for a nice deal as compared to the $1800 price new. I'm in Fort Collins and probably don't want to ship.

I wish theyd come down as you approach the vehicle like Ford has them. Even before you unlock, it uses the key sensor to drop them from a few feet

I wish someone would make real sliders with power steps built in like the keep guys have. Emailed the company and no dice for the tundra. Was going to have my fab guy try to fab some using amps and he checked out the truck and said it would be nearly impossible with how they made the mounts

They don't seem to have a double cab version. No selector for cab type at all so perhaps they will never offer that? IDK.
