Am I the only one who wants an Access Cab

I just secured the funds for it, so I'm ready when he is. I'm really happy, because it's the EXACT color I want, with the exact shell I wanted as well. My access cab has been a GREAT truck . . . someone is going to get a solid rig that's still got plenty of life in it. Funny when I first met my neighbor, I said "if you ever wanna sell that truck, let me know" . . . he replied, "I love that truck, I'll never sell it". But he's buying a 25 foot boat now and needs more towing capacity. Glad he's giving me 1st right of refusal.

 

What color would that be? Pics pls.

I found out he just put a new timing belt, tires, and new shocks on it . . . so I'm really looking forward to getting this truck.
Sorry to sidetrack this thread . . . my AC truck has been the best truck I've ever owned, hoping the DC will be just as good or suite my needs even better.

I just bought a 2006 AC with 97k miles. Talk about a Unicorn.

 

I like the AC. It's the perfect sized truck that has a V8 engine. I don't need passengers in the back seat and if you're hauling your family around, you're using the wrong vehicle. Get a correct family vehicle... not a pickup truck. Geez...

Correct tool for the job. Trucks for truck duty that generally require a bed or big towing.

 

Wow, nice score. Last year I got a gorgeous lifted 4x4 AC Limited with 155k California miles. Babied...

 

When i build doors for it, i want the back doors to be able to open without opening the front. Half doors are awesome for grocery loading. Or i wanna weld the doors together and get pneumatic lambo hinges.

and i want the backdoor windows to open all the way on purpose.

That's a good point too. I will say that I pass a lot of older guys driving first gens. I usually do the Tundra wave and they just seem confused or don't even notice me. I don't think a lot of first gen owners really care about the truck much.

 

But Tacoma guys sure give me the double take when I drive by. At least I notice they do when they aren't blinding me with their unaimed led drop in headlights and orange fog illuminators.

 

These cats in the Tacomas size up us 1st Gen drivers so I just roll down the rear window, load up the family with plenty of room, pack a full size bed with stuff and cruise along in my V8 that doesn't hunt gears and doesn't leave me sitting in a position that I can't do shit about.

The rear window is the coolest thing. I almost purchased a limited double cab with the sun roof. Rolling everything down was awesome. I should have snagged that truck up.

 

And, that's what is so great about being "in-the-know" of an excellent quality product that so many people overlook or don't appreciate. These Gen1 Tundras are special. They're well built, extremely rugged and reliable, and do most anything a truck needs to do, in a powerful, reliable, nimble package that's easy to maintain. They look great, drive great, handle great, have enough power and tech but not so much to be energy hogs or technology bloat... Enough people know of it that prices continue to climb for these, and none can be found in scrap yards.

Let me give an analogy in the gun-world. Years ago, snobbish American shooters didn't know of, care about, or frowned upon the SKS, the AK47, and the CZ line of pistols. Now, they command a premium. The "secret" is out... These are excellent designs but because they were "a foreign job" people were prejudiced or whatever...

Back to the Tundra. In 2002 a loaded 4x4 Tundra was $30,000. Around here, a fairly maintained one with a quarter million miles will sell for $5,000 in a week.
So basically, do maintenance but otherwise pile on 15,000 miles annually and get back 1/6th of your money. An excellent low mileage one can get $15-20 grand. If you bought a Tundra for $30k, drove it say 100,000 miles, kept in great shape and well maintained, you'd probably get 2/3rd of your (depreciated) money back if you sold it. So they have held their value extremely well.

 

I was pretty set on an access cab but Toyota does rear windows better than anybody. I couldn't pass that up.

 

I would say the first gen is similar to a rugged Serbian built AK. Not perfect or completely refined, but rugged and dependable and fast enough for most jobs. Good analogy.

 

So now I need a good analogy for the newer models. Semi auto m249?

But my truck stands out due to the color choices.

 

I love my AC cab and really wouldn’t trade it for a DC unless I had a family to haul around although when I visited Auburn University in Alabama I did see a family of 6 squeeze into a 90s Ford Access Cab.

I really wouldn’t want to give up the easier parking ability and places to park of the AC over the DC as well, especially when visiting Boston.

BUT, if Toyota came out with a 2-door Sequoia with a fold down rear seat like the Chevy Tahoe had, I’d be all over that!

 

Last weekend we had a last minute "hey can you haul my paddle board". Double cab can.

 

Just cause you can, doesnt mean you should.
