Make sure you use a proper ground location. I initially used the u hook tie-down anchor point on the truck bed and the voltage was jumping like a rabbit. I switched to bolting directly to the main truck frame using one of the existing holes and it got a lot better. Remember to sand down the paint coat around the nut.

thx. I thought about grounds, on the truck and trailer. Haven’t gotten around to tracing where the prior owner terminated the incoming ground on the trailer.

On the truck side, I picked up an existing grounding point near the battery. It was clean and corrosion free.
