    Just got a call from the dealer servicing it. Here is what they said;

    “Cylinder 8 misfire” and “cylinder 8 imbalance”.....he then said they switched around the coils and it fixed the problem. To me, I want to be confident this fixed it, BUT I think I’ll be back. They are keeping it overnight and going to cold start it tomorrow to see if it’s fixed.

    I would love some feedback to see “what you would do”.....send it back and ask for a new truck? Be happy and move forward? Ask for my money back? Ask for a few bones thrown my way? Serious advice is appreciated.

    It's only high jacked when the topic is no longer discussed.
    So has there been any resolution yet? See how that works?

    I would ask for a new truck. Issues like this are rare but to have something like this happen so early is shitty.

    "switched" the coils? NO. I want that #8 coil pack replaced. Wherever you put it. Don't accept the keys back, don't sign a thing. Get that replaced. Or have them tell you the truth on what was wrong. A bad coil pack will be bad wherever you put it. So they are fibbing about the fix and what was actually wrong.

    If it's just a defective coil then not a big enough thing to request a new truck after all the dealer seems to be on top of it. Make sure they check it over completely. Could have been a simple thing like a connector not pushed all the way on to the coil in question. It's easy to verify a bad coil. Definitely ask for some bones.....

    Too many to list
    They wont give you a new truck just because the coil was bad.
    Same problem has to reoccur three times during the warranty period in order for lemon law buy back to kick in.

    Tough call! I would ask for all the coil packs to be verified solid and then in writing that this was a no shit fluke.

    Thanks for all the feedback guys. Keep in mind, the dealer servicing it isn’t the one that sold it to me.

    The service guy was really cool, explaining that switching the two coils (6 and 8) would identify if it was in fact a bad coil or not. He said after the switch, they test drove it and all ran fine. They wanted to keep it overnight and do a cold start on it, as it could have just been a loose connection causing the misfire.

    My fear, is that all ran fine from Ohio to Virginia, and then when I drove it from Virginia to NC. Then the next day this shit happened.

    So now I sit here and wonder, do I ask for some bones and what bones would be an easy win? Yes, it’s all covered under warranty, but a damn hassle. From the original dealer, what would you guys ask for?

    We used this same exact technique when troubleshooting test equipment at work. It eventually leads to the root cause of the problem. It can be fast or can take some time. BONES?????? How about Parts Dept credit? The dealers usually have some decent gear and other cool stuff for sale.

    If switching the bad coil pack over to another cylinder doesnt cause a miss fire on that one, doesnt that only prove the coil packs werent the problem?

    Unless im mistaken, that only eliminated the coils as the problem.

    Are the coils made for each specific cylinder?

    Coils aren't specific. In this case the coil in question could have a heat sensitive issue where voltage breakdown occurs after a period of time.That coil may have to be replaced (should be....)

    @Silv333

    Glad you are getting some feedback and the fix.

    The only thing you could possibly ask for is oil changes, maybe an extended warranty at best.
    The dealership will not give you a new truck, money back, or anything of that nature...period. That would be a horrible business decision. You have a warranty, it is being addressed, it is inconvenient, and I hope you were offered a loaner.

    Good point, if it runs well after this switch I guess it does show the coils were good and something else caused it.

    Could a connection be the cause? I was getting everything from precollision malfunction messages, trailer brake error mesaage, the truck shuttering, not running at full power....it was nuts.

    I accidentally blew the 10 amp reverse fuse a few weeks ago. Caused all kinds of display light flashing. Crazy......

    Regarding your issue ...my 1st thoughts were possibly a improperly seated coil connector.

    Right, thats what i was kinda getting at. I might of miss interpreted the response OP posted from the tech, but it seemed like he was saying that the solution to the miss fire was the switch of the 8 and 6 coils. No new coils, just the existing ones.

    No mention of the missfire now occuring on the cylinder (6) with the coil in question.

    Sounds like all they did was eliminate the coil as the cause.

    Correct.

    In switching the two could they have solved it by maybe correcting a bad connection or something?
