When I start up my truck the HU will switch to my TPMS screen maybe 30 seconds after, when they register. It’s like it registers a new reading and wants to tell me about it. Happen to anyone else? Any way to make this not happen other than removing the TPMS gages from the HU? It’s not a huge deal, but I’d rather not have to navigate back to my music on every trip.

Thanks! I’ll try it. So far I’ve installed the head unit, a Kenwood amp, Kicker door speakers and a Rockford Fosgate 10” punch sub behind the rear seat. Pulled all the dash speakers this morning. For a modest build I’m happy with the result, especially since the savings on the head unit paid for everything else!

Been fucking swamped this week and will be this next week too. The one I have coming will be here Monday - it is the same one that @dittothat ordered. I'm expecting their sales to jump astronomically in the next week if I confirm fitment.

Finally got the cluster of an install done on the Tacoma.

The 9" scales much, much better in the dash than the 11" would.

I highly recommend not trying to move the video feed from your factory backup cam to the headunit. While I did make it work, what a PITA it is.

SXM is staffed by utter morons who borked my entire account.

2011 Limited with JBL Head unit & Speakers. Upgrading to the Kenwood DMX1037S. Crutchfield has the notice below when looking at the installation packages
"If you plan to bypass the factory amp, we recommend replacing your vehicle's low-impedance speakers with standard 4-ohm aftermarket speakers to avoid damaging your new radio. If you want to keep your factory speakers, you'll need to add an aftermarket amplifier."

Anyone looking at having to make these changes? Suggestions on new speakers?

    Thanks

Are you wanting to replace everything, or just the HU right now? You can just swap the HU and use the Maestro and it will run through the JBL amp and power the factory speakers fine. It won’t be amazing, but it will still be a noticeable improvement over stock.

replacing the JBL amp and swapping out speakers is a potentially very slippery slope… sort of like looking at suspensions and tires

That’s what I’m finding out & I’m not a big audio guy anyway. I’d be good with just replacing the HU for CarPlay and adding a front cam for now

In that case, you’re saying I can ignore crutchfield’s suggestion and it will work fine?

Their suggestion is based on IF you decide to pull the factory amp out. The door speakers are low impedance (2 ohm) and that doesn’t play nice with the head unit if wired direct to the speakers (it is designed to power 4 ohm speakers).

Instead, the head unit will send the audio signals (with the help of the Maestro) to the factory Amp by default and the amp will distribute to the speakers.

I had the non-JBL amp which I long since deleted previously, any issues with the OEM speakers directly run from the Kenwood DMX1037S with the bypass harness?

I love my ILX-F511 but I am looking for advice or to see if I am the only one shaking the thing to death. The screen went from the wiggle people talk about to displaying like trying to watch blocked cable HBO when off road. Anyone else?

I am thinking to remove, pick another height, reinstall, and then rtv shims behind each side or something.

Where do you currently have the height and depth adjustment set to? Also, which dash kit are you using? These items may help others with similar setups be able to answer better.

Interesting... I'll be ordering my install bits soon. I wonder where the weak point is, and if it's something I can build a reinforcement bracket for either out of metal or some strong 3D printed material.

Mine has been solid since install. Just checking, you installed the 4 screws that hold the face to the main chassis after you connected it and before you installed the power bar thing?

Do you know if the non-JBL amp is also running 2 ohm speakers in the door? I pulled my SR5 non-JBL amp months ago when I went with a Dasaita headunit, and the audio quality was way way better. But if I'm potentially causing issues for myself I will swap the door speakers, I can get some quality 4ohm speakers.

If you're running ALL the stock speakers, you're fine. Each corner, which includes the door, corner speaker and one channel of the center speaker, works out to being a 4ohm circuit.

I am indeed! Excellent, I can save up for doing an entire speaker-amp-sub system in the future instead of throwing a makeshift budget thing at it quick!

I can tell you I bypassed the non-JBL amp when I installed this HU and the sounds trough the factory door speakers was worse than routing it through the factory amp in my opinion. Especially with the HU driving the dash speakers so much harder, my audio sounded pretty bad for a week until I got better door speakers installed with a 5 channel amp. I ended up pulling the dash speakers completely once that was done.

I remember that now, and yeah the factory amp has a built in low pass filter for the door woofers. I still don’t think it should hurt anything, necessarily, but it could make the sound worse like you experienced.

Ah, well. I'd put the factory non-JBL amp back in, for a trial run, but I gave mine to another forum member here, and I'm not dropping the kind of money they're asking for one on eBay!

That money would be better spent on a set of decent component speakers haha
