You’re correct. It’s a scosche kit. But they also have the locked down firmware. That was the deal breaker for me.

Will be using a F309 non TND with the Scosche kit from Amazon.

Im pretty sure Scosche or Metra, you can still have misalignment due to manufacturing process and install. Both dash kits are the same pice too so paying more for the "better" dash kit doesnt make sense. I have a Metra and it lines up pretty damn good. (Pioneer Avic 8400nex, metra kit and ac controls are black brushed steel vinyl and silver dash trim is Rustoleum Soft Iron paint)20190614_104152.jpg

I have the TND version. Didn't know about the firmware being locked. I suppose if I wanted the new firmware, all I would need to do is buy the iDataLink module separately and plug it in, correct?

BTW... another thing that is not very clear up front is when you connect the ILX-F309 to the iDatalink module, you loose the AUX capability.

When you say "secondary display", are you referring to the HDMI input?

Unfortunately no, I called iDatalink. The ALP (Alpine) Hardware can only work with a PF-MRR firmware (Perfect Fit). This is by design. Alpine wants to ensure continuity with every install on the perfect fit editions of the head units. They go out and test which dash kit looks the best, etc etc. For example the Tacoma comes with a Metra (I think), the Tundra comes with a Scosche.

    That is annoying, yes.

The secondary display between the tach and speedo. For example on some kenwood models it will even retain the navigation next turn instruction. (ONLY if its a NAV unit, it doesnt pull this from Waze/CarPlay/Android Auto etc). What kills me is it says it in the details on their site but not when you go to flash the firmware.

I hope this detail helps everyone looking to buy this vs. the individual parts with a vanilla ILX-F309.

So are the pre-amp RCAs active on the TND version? The install guide says that the maestro module may need to be re-flashed with different firmware if they do not work.

Both the high level and line out should be live, it depends on which plug you use based on if you have JBL or not. You _MUST_ re-flash to turn _OFF_ "Factory Amplifier" to use all 3 channels for the pre-out. If you dont do that fading will not function (this is done in the DSP on the JBL amp).

OK. I don't have the JBL system so I should be good. I just got the ********* system 1 upgrade, and I plan on installing using RCAs.

    Thanks!

Just reading up on the ILX-F309. So better not to get TND package? Is the locked firmware the only difference? Any other recommendations for modules, etc.?

I just bought the KCX-C2600B. Do you know where I tap the orange/white and orange/black wire to? Figure that I can tap into the camera plug in the back of the radio. Thanks for the advice.

I was wondering how is the bluetooth caller functionality for you? I have the halo9 and I can't hear the person I'm speaking to when I'm driving? I have the amp pushed to 100, the call volume maxed out on the unit and the phone. I've tried multiple phones and replaced the maestro. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I really like all the other features of the halo9, but I do a lot of phone calls while on the road and can't do it with the halo9.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Thanks, I've tried that as well as clearing the cache on the phone and the different versions of BT. I was curious if you had the same issue.

Can anyone explain the locked firmware with the TND model? I’m currently looking at this radio and would like to know the actual pros and cons of this so called “locked firmware”. Thanks in advance.

if you have iphone and carplay, can you try USB connected (not BT) and see if the MIC/speakers work fine ?

also alpine has a website with new firmwares you can download. Maybe they released a fix.

Make sure the iDatalink is setup for your particular truck. If buying used and having it installed, it needs to be factory reset

Had the non tundra version installed. I lost my DRL’s and auto headlights. Why would I lose those? The drls won’t turn on and the headlights don’t turn on automatically at night.

Sounds like they screwed up, none of that functionality should be lost AFAIK.

TND model is designed for DIY, simple and harness is done. There is no other difference other than the restriction on what you can do within the firmware. If you don't mind sourcing the dash kit and harness yourself, there is no reason to get the TND version.

Is there a specific harness for that or should it set up through the menu? They installed the Maestro RR and TO2.

To my knowledge it shouldn't be involved with the head-unit at all. Did a fuse blow? Relay? This troubleshooting is outside my wheelhouse. Call the shop and have them fix it.

I’m bringing it back tomorrow morning. I know the OEM stereo controls all that. Like sensitivity and shut off time. That’s why I thought it was the head unit.

    Too many TRD parts
For those with a '19, do you lose the turn by turn navigation that appears on the instrument cluster?

The TPMS pressure is still available in the instrument cluster.
