@Beau so just ignore the DRL harness and wire each LED lead to power?

Yes, just disregard the harness altogether and wire them to the ignition fuse for power. Too EASY

Have you opened up the DRL harness box? I wonder what's in there.

I did, not sure what all the components are. They have been waterproofed so are all encapsulated. I'd imagine it is just some sort of relay and regulator which turns the DRLs on and dims them with headlights.

It’s raining out so can’t check right now, but do I have it right. The two brown wires coming out of the headlights are wired straight to the tap on the ign fuse?

Yes. I actually used the part of the harness with the connectors in order to be able to disconnect them at a later date.

Ok guys, my bad! I guess I didn’t notice during the daytime (by myself) that the DRL was still dimming. I’m not sure what the harness does now or how to make it so the DRL doesn’t dim....again, sorry:anonymous:

No harm, no foul. I think the “brain” gives the DRL more power only with the headlights off because when I didn’t install the harness, the ring did not light at all with the headlights off, but would still do half power with parking or headlights on. The half-power mode is powered by the headlight bulb plugs and the full power mode is powered by the harness.

Straight from Alpharex via FB: "Sorry, but the DRL bar is design to be dimmer when parking light light is turn on, it's build in to the circuit board."
DANG! Not only are they dimmer than the Morimotos, but they dim even more at night!

I can say 4300k HIDs have way better usable visibility than 6000k LEDs for me and my environment. There's actual light on the snow and roads vs it being washed out.

But it's too effin cold for silicone. I'll have to deal with condensation as it occurs until it's warm enough to apply silicone.

Most good HID kits come with grommets for passing the wires through the dust cover.

Yeah there is, but Alpharex says that's 1 cause of moisture. They silicone the gasket on the kits they sell prefitted with hids. They made the hid install directions private online now tho.

I installed the Pro’s today on my ‘08 CM with the V.4 LED’s. Thanks much to the advice on this thread! Was a seamless install.

You can see that clearance was very tight for the dust cap on the passenger side, so I had to trim the rim of the cap to avoid rubbing. I’m still confident it will be watertight as the rubber seal seats fine. On the driver side there was more clearance so I just shaved a bit off the interior of the dust cap ring to avoid putting lateral pressure on the LED housing.

I wired the DRL harness up according to the suggestion above to splice both the red and gray wire into the add-a-fuse instead of going to the battery terminal with the red wire. Works just fine and is a cleaner install.

Happy with the finished look! Now that it’s dark I need to go adjust them but I have a long Phillips head screwdriver that reaches the adjusters so I’m hoping it won’t be a bear.

Happy to share more about the experience if anyone has questions.

I had to crank my aim way up after the initial install.

Does anyone notice their left/right adjuster doing anything. I turned both sides and gave up after awhile. Saw no left/right changes.

Drivers side was way low and I had to crank it up. Passenger side too but less so. I did have lateral movement with the horizontal screw. Seemed to take longer than the vertical to see the effect. I also noticed a few times that in the dark I was turning the screwdriver but had shifted it enough to not actually be turning the adjuster knob, so I had to reposition my grip and then saw the movement.

I’ve never had a vehicle with LED headlights before so the upgrade from halogen is pretty spectacular. High beams are like lasers, as mentioned above.

First take at the adjustment. Good for now and will evaluate based on road reactions as much as anything. Dialed the driver side a bit lower.

4500k hids vs 6000k leds. Dashcam footage.

4500k is easier/more natural to my eyes. It's more favorable and obvious for 4500k when the roads are wet or snow is flying.

Thanks for the pic. I wonder if this is another reason why people say not to mix projectors and LED's?

Agreed, the output is far superior to halogen bulbs. I may go HID at some point, but more than likely, will do the 2018 sequoia headlights upgrade instead.
