Well it looks like we're blood brothers on this one. I was building a walk-in gun closet a few weeks ago and just about took my left thumb off on the table saw.

I think I have a little PTSD regarding the moment that it happened. Anytime you stop the blade for a second with your own flesh, it's not fun.

I'm healing pretty good, and I hope you do too.

Hasn't hurt much since the beginning. Little pain on the palm and the part of the cut outside the index finger. Index finger is numb and cant use it at this point yet. Still have to have the brace on. Not really itchy either.

I was back using the saw the next day (because the project needed to get done), but I used two push-sticks instead of one. Lol

PT is a bitch, but keep doing the exercises. Also, keep rubbing the scar to soften up the scar tissue. Accidents happen and glad you're on the mend.

I nailed my hand to a 2by, then a sheet of plywood and another 2by a while back and the only pain I had was the PT getting it to move again after the brace came off.
It's a surreal experience everyone should try, lol.

Took this with my phone (in the other hand) while waiting for paramedics to come.

Even for professionals such as myself i say always use a riving knife or splitter to prevent kickbacks. I use a Shark Guard with integrated dust collection. One of my neighbors lost all 5 fingers in the jointer head of a 5 head moulder years ago and he still works all the time doing woodworking out of his garage. He acts like it does not even bother him. Hope you heal up fine.

Absolutely. Thank you for thinking about me.

Injury occurred on Jan 10 and surgery on Jan 16. I am at 7 weeks 1 day post surgery. The cut is healed up nicely and swelling is almost gone. I have nearly full range of motion in my index finger now. The tendon is caught up in the scar tissue so it pulls on my hand and make it a little tougher to get that last few cm in a fist. I am out of the brace and back to using my right hand as normalish. The index finger aches in the joints and tissue around the numb area. It is numb just on the outside of the finger. I do have feeling in the tip of my index finger but just not full feeling.

Finger I think is getting feeling back. Slowly. It’s constantly has a light pain. It’s like pressure or tight skin. Push a sharp in in the area and I don’t feel it there, I feel it in a larger area to the outside of the nerve damage area.

Maybe that light pain is the nerves regenerating.

Probably. Has been feeling like this since it happened. Changes around a bit with some spikes of pain. Lessened overall in the past month.

When I scratch that area it does have a tingly sensation all around the area. That is a good sign of regeneration :)

Once those fully heal up a nightly routine of mederma will make those suckers disappear. Worked well on a few scars I have from surgery and shrunk a large scar my wife had from a surgery 20+ years. Definitely worth looking into..
