Still cussing up a storm after I made a boneheaded mistake last night.

So me and the lady got some last minute passes to gulf coast jam (huge 3 day country music concert) so we were in a hurry to get out of the house and go.

I run and hop into the truck like I normaly do to go load up our chairs and stuff from the shed and throw it in reverse only to hear "BOOM" a few moments later....damn trailer hitch.

Turns out my girl parked her GMC behind me without my knowing or seeing (pitch black in the driveway at night unless the motion alarm kicks on).

So here I am the next morning kicking myself wondering what in the hell I should do? Think I should file an insurance claim or? My neighbor owns a body shop so I may just see how much a GMC front end is worth and go from there.

Strangely I was more upset about the whole ordeal than my girl...maybe because it was the first time that it was me instead of someone else that made a mark on my own truck...I think she got the short end of the stick this time though. Told her as punishment to my truck I would happily sell it and buy a new one. As if its a rabid dog that needs to be put down. Sounds legit heh?

Unless it bent her frame underneath? That piece of plastic trim should not cost you much? Might need your neighbor to paint it to match. If her SUV has tall miles just cover that spot with matching white gloss tape and call it a day. Good luck. D

Depends on how much your premiums will go up. I manage a body shop so I deal with this all the time. Talk to your agent and he should tell you how much your premiums will go up a month if you file a claim. If your pockets are even a little deep you could pay for it out of pocket.

Oh man, that sucks... you are not alone... I've sent a truck on a ghost ride into a tree thinking I had set a parking brake that had frozen in the off position... I feel your pain. Good luck with the fixes!!!

So you ran into hers but you get a new truck?!o_O
    Crap happens.
Last week i was backing into a parking space that had a light post in the sidewalk behind...Looking at the car waiting for me caught my eye... the woman driving was upset that i had stopped to back into a parking space and i was watching the cuss words spew from her mouth. I looked at my back up cam and i nearly hit that light post by a quarter inch!
And this ones to help you feel better...Last year i was hauling home a 16' one piece gutter and i backed my truck into my drive. A group of high school kids broke out into a fight right across the street from my house and it caught my eye and i backed that gutter right into the header of my garage. Ruined the gutter and dented in the back wall of my bed. Not too big a deal tho my bed was already beat up from using the truck like a truck.

Dang it. I've backed mine into a shopping cart in thedead of night. Scar's still there

Hopefully the cost won't be that much. Of course the paint to match will cost the most. The GMC louvure won't be that much. Couple hundred.

Customer of mine recently backed his new Ram into a parking post doing about $1800 of damage.

Another customer of mine has an older Tundra and he recently backed in into a parking post as well caving in about half of his bedside!!!

I wouldn't file a claim. Not worth the premium increases to follow you a couple years (3-5 years sometimes) Idk your deductible but it can't be too expensive to just fix it then factor in your deductible it's probably Not TOO much more to after deductible. Not to mention, will they even cover something like that? Basically you backed into your own vehicle on your private property. I work In insurance, not auto insurance but my work has auto and I used to sit near that group and I recall them saying even calling to inquire about a claim cAn possibly increase premiums bc they know you did something (kind of like admitting carelessness) not trying to call you out, shit happens, I backed into the corner wall of my carport a month or so ago not paying attention, left some scratches and a dent.

As someone else said, I'd cover her car with white ductape, your truck isn't bad at all and save up to fix it out of pocket if money is an issue. if not, throw them bad boys in the auto shop tomorrow. Just my .02. I just don't like filing insurance claims if avoided now that I see the issues it causes being in the field.

When I was a kid I hit a dear and filed a claim, pay out was like $2,000 and my insurance almost doubled until I turned 23 and this happened when I was 19 I think. :notsure:

Exact same thing happend to me and my wife's Accord which was new at the time. Luckily here in Indiana, we only need a rear license plate, and the hole was right in the middle of her bumper. I just put on the plate bracket, and slapped on a Indy motor speedway decorative plate to cover it. Done.
I suggest not claiming this as well.

I feel your pain, a while back I found a bull nose dent on the frame above the front passenger door. My theory is that when I was at Lowes, some moron was parked next to me and was loading something on a roof rack or ladder rack and it got away from them and crunched the top of my truck. I didn't find the damage until after fact. I let out a tirade that would have done a drunk Marine proud. It cost just under $1100 to fix the dent and paint to match. Just got my truck back on Thursday actually and all is well.

Do an eBay search for that bumper. If lucky, the paint and surgery should be easy......

You need to put some halogen back-up lights in that bad boy. No more dark when backing up. Seriously.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/886-backup-light-mod.209578/

Like this, but use 894 bulbs, not the 886 bulbs (37.5W instead of the 50W 886's).

I ran these for years in my Tacoma with great results, and about 2 months in the Tundra now. I'm well aware that increasing loads on electrical circuits is risky, but 6.3 amps on a circuit fused at 10 amps is pretty safe, and I had no issues with melted reflectors in almost 4 years with them in the Tacoma, despite long times in reverse.

I did better than that. I put two led bars under the rear bumper. I am pretty sure you can land aircraft by the light I get now. Lol!

Well, surprisingly I was able to find it primed and ready to be painted online for only $257 including shipping and handling.

Gonna order one up and have my neighbor paint it for me and hopefully talk him into assisting me with the install.

Overall it will end up being a hell of a lot less than I originally thought.
