The 2006 DC I just bought has a new set of Yokohama Geolander H/T GO56 . . . first set of Yokohama's I've had . . . nice tire, smooth, quiet, tracks great. No complaints. I'd buy them again. I'm 99% on road, hardly any rain, zero snow.

IMO opinion the stock Michelins are not that great. Most all terrains would be better. In the snow they are pretty bad. Last winter I was on a logging roads in the snow and the traction was not the best.

On my 07 silverado (before my Tundra) I had Cooper St Maxx and they were probably some of the best tires on snow I have had and offroad as well. They were pretty loud and rough though. I didnt buy them for comfort lol.
Im not sure what Im gonna get when these stock garbage tires are done but it will be a more aggressive At.

I just changed from a mt to a hybrid tire , i went with yokohama x-at an im pretty impressed, hardly any road noise, they balanced great ,an they have 45 k tread warranty, i would do some research on them ,i did an after that i went with them ,yokohama don't get alot of recognition as they should.

Totally Agree. AND they have outstanding warranty and customer service. I have them on all my trucks and will be on tundra once stocks are done. Just replaced a set on my other truck and michelin gave me a 50% credit towards new set since I had so much tread left and tires showed some cracking at a little over 5 years.

All three sets of Michelins have driven pretty much the same through their life which I deem 6 years due to Industry Standard Reccos. The first set of M/S smelled brand new even 6 years later and were tacky. Those tires were freaking amazing as they never aged. The M/S2 ‘eco tire’ developed a little more sidewall cracking than the M/S and smelled new for a few months. Rubber was firmer, but still soft. Handling not as good but still pretty good. Wear not as good.

These Defenders are coming up on 3 years old and still ride like new. Rubber firmness is between the two priors. Tread life at 20k looks on par to go 100k which a buddy has taking on his original M/S with tread still left. Handling is better than the two priors.

Both sets of Dunlop and BFG ‘Mud All Terrain’ I could only bear for less than a year due to noise not to mention the poor wear/handling. I’m sure advancements have been made on these labels, but I still read on this forum guys trying to balance their knobby tires to no avail. Complain of noises and wear and tear on suspensions.

When it comes to looks or drive/handle I’ll go with the latter. I been there with the cool Mud Tires and the multiple trips for balancing and poor wear issues. Get whatever makes you happy as its your money.

Find a place that can perform a road force balance...took a couple tries for me but finally found a place that knew what they were doing. I think the problem most of the time is not the tire but rather finding someone who knows how to balance a wheel.

I just bought a set of bias plies for my truck. The "ride" is the last thing I think about when buying an A/T or M/T tire.

Have you considered switching from wearing panties to tighty whiteys?

Hey man I can tell you from experience that the Ridge Grapplers have a softer compounded rubber than the BFG all terrains and therefor run “softer” with less noise and provide a great ride. They don’t last as long, I had a buddy who bragged about getting 90k out of bfgs on his smaller toyo truck but it rough as hell!

Damn, I'm jealous! My dad had one yeaaars ago that we redid. A 72 scout 2 . . . What I first drove when I got my license. I miss that thing and wish I would have got it from him instead of him selling. They are tough as nails.

That's awesome! My first vehicle was a '78 Scout II, same color orange, with the big 345ci V8, that I bought from a neighbor.
We did an axle flip and put some 35" Super Swampers and some kind of loud ass exhaust on it. That thing was a beast!
I accidentally ran over the top when it was off the truck and laying in my driveway (that's another story) so I was full-time convertible, in Houston. I installed boat speakers and a watertight tub in the backseat, and an umbrella on the passenger seat. If it was raining I stayed pretty dry when I was moving. When I had to stop at an intersection I just threw up the umbrella until the light turned green. I got a lot of laughs driving that truck in the rain.

Paid $1500 for it in 1990, and sold it in 1992 for $3500, which at the time I thought I hit the jackpot.
In hindsight, well, you know how that goes.
Awesome trucks, wish IH could have kept going.

Not sure where Nitto Trail Grapplers fall in this convo but that s what I got when I had my lift installed. It s a MT, and pretty vocal on the highway, but the tire makes my truck feel very planted to the road. At this point a quieter tire would seem odd to me. I ve grown accustomed to that knobby rumble when I come to a stop:D

if you're looking for an AT with good highway manners, looks good, and preforms well in wet, snow, and some offroad use go with the Cooper AT3 XLT's.

load rating is a big factor in the ride of tires on trucks as well. Need to pick a tire based on needs

I've Been running bfg ko2 10 ply (load e) for a couple years. Yeah they are pretty rough but worth every bump for those that use truck for it's intended purpose. heavy loads, towing, off pavement, off road, winter driving etc, they excel at all those and I'll gladly tolerate the rougher ride the rest of the time.

Most folks who complain how a tire rides and handles probably don't need the level of tire they're complaining about.

The Firestones I pulled off for Duratracs were hands down quieter and got better mileage. It's more important to me that my tires perform in the environment I use them in.

I agree. Only have 4K miles on mine but like them much better than the KO2s I previously had. They also did great in a recent snow we had of about 8-12 inches.

While the all terrain tires may look cool, I am all about hard pavement ride quality. I recently ditched the 20" wheels that came with my TRD Sport and bought a set of 18" BBS/TRD forged wheels. Unsprung weight has been reduced by 60 pounds (wheels and tires). I bought a set of Pirelli all seasons and it's like driving a new vehicle....substantial improvement in ride quality.

I don’t go off road and gladly sacrifice the more aggressive look for the smoother and quieter ride. Not for everyone but it works for me.

My Toyo AT3's ride great. I don't think that I would be saying that if my air pressure was too high though.

P rated all terrains are a nice compromise for light off road use and city comfort/noise. I had P rated AT2's before my current set and they were quiet and still performed far better than stock Michelins. It's also relative to your standards, I drive an F350 all over the city for work. When I hop into my Tundra at the end of the day, it's like butter. E rated all terrains and all.
