I want it to keep power so it can catch someone if they run into to my truck when it's parked, lots of people I work with get there trucks damaged in the parking lots and since there are no cameras, they're out of luck. It's the thinkware, so it only turns on when the vehicle is bumped

Might want to think about investing in the extra battery that blackboxmycar sells to get constant power to your camera so you dont kill your battery.

How likely is it that the battery will run down in 12 hrs? I drive my truck alot and my battery isn't old. I've read the extra batteries are for people who don't drive everyday or log alot of miles on their vehicles

Hi how did you wire in the hot fuse for the camera to operate when the truck is off with the smart box?

I just used an add-a-fuse in the main fuse box (I believe it was one of the 12v cigarette lighter fuses). That circuit is only on when the truck is on, but you can choose one of the fuses that has constant power if you want the camera to operate while the truck is off.

Installed viofo a129 pro duo in mine, all good using the hardwire kit to the fuses like @TxLock21 used, used the bracket from TDS for the rear cam. Hid the cables along headliner, behind airbags for both A pillars. Parking mode works as it should and overall cam is great. I set Voltage cutoff to 12.4 for the colder months...although, i have the Trickle charger installed so when plugged in at work for extended periods that will keep the battery above that so recording in low bit parking mode set to infinity, should cover the Tundra for those days. CCTV at home so covered there.
Thanks to all the others before me that posted their experiences! Greatly helped me! Cheers from North of the 49th.

I got the regular so it sticks down a bit. 2+ years and it's been solid.

To those that use the Dongar mirror power adapter, does that supply constant power to your cam even with the truck off?

I am using a Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 and am pleased with it. Simple to use and very low profile. In retrospect I would maybe get a rear facing model, or I may add a second for my rear window.

I wanted to get a model from a company I actually knew with a customer service number. I trust the no-name Chinese stuff about as much as a fart after chili dogs. Rather have something that actually went through an engineering and QA process - if I need the footage, I NEED it.

Anyone who has permanently installed - what fuses did you tap for both full time power and acc power?

I don't remember which ones I used, but came out to the truck fully dead this morning. Used the viofo install kit, and left the cutoff pretty high, but battery is dead. Confirmed no lights or anything was left on, and its a 2021 truck, so that leads me to believe I chose the wrong circuits.

Since it's cold, I'd rather be armed with a better plan on fuses before pulling things apart.

I need to order the add a circuits for my dash cam. The fuse box under the dash, does it have regular fuses or the minis?

What’s the general consensus on resolution? Should I be looking at 4K? Or is 1080 HD producing good image resolution? Looking at different thinkware models, their only 4k is the U1000

The only thing wrong with it, it will drain your battery regardless of the software installed....software is shitty.

The bad thing about the U1000 is that it permanently mounts to the windshield.

you have no clue as to what your talking about...this one you can set for 6 hour shut off or it has auto voltage shut down so you dont drain yr battery.

there are certain dashcams that will turn off after a certain voltage drop. I've been using my thinkware for a while like this, it connects to an ignition on source and constant so it can go into "parking" mode.

How long before it shuts down? Im wondering if there is a set up where camera runs off a battery pack, then truck battery with shutoff based on voltage drop

blackvue has a batterybox that u can purchase but at that price ur better off with a bigger battery. Im not sure how long it cuts off, mine doesn't cut off cus I have a solar panel wired to trickle charge the battery but it last overnight also.

I do know what the hell I'm talking about, over the course of a month had it at different settings, even had to get a new battery because it kept draining my battery regardless of settings....otherwise its a good camera. software is junk.

Mine shuts off no problem...have no idea what you are experiencing. I have an AGM battery too which probably helps.
