I’ve got a Street Guardian SGGCX2PRO+. I like it. Thinking of running a different camera for the back so I can use this one at 60 fps. Audio is surprisingly good considering it’s just a tiny pinhole mic. I talk relatively quiet and the camera picks up my voice pretty easily. I’ve also got a JL Audio 12W6 in the trunk that the camera can pick up without distorting.

I could nt cast my vote because Rexing isn t in the list. I ve had a Rexing s300 for a few years, and it rocks. The best part about it is the gps module, and the windows software that reads the videos. It tells the speed, location, and has a google maps like display that shows vehicle moving. I switched to Linux quite a while ago, so I can t use that part of it...

I am going to install mine with a switch. The last thing I want is the thing running while in my garage. I filled up the tank in early March and just filled it up again in mid July. Don’t drive it much in the COVID crap days. I have security cams in the garage

Thanks to @GunWanderer for the installation vid!

I am going to try out the Blackvue DR590w, front cam only.

My plan is to install with USB to start and make sure everything works and I like it. Assuming I do, how do I connect it to power to get the full use out of it?

Magic Power gets iffy reviews. I have seen folks just tap into the mirror power...

I have been reading through this thread for a long time, and may have just missed the answers. Any help is appreciated.

Vantrue N4 3 camera system is not on list, yet a very viable contender in the dashcam market. Great features, easy install and fits my purpose of use.

Maybe some forum members can steer me in the right direction. How can I mount a dash cam to the 3rd visor area of my windshield?
I'm trying to install a VanTrue OnDash N2 Pro dash cam on my 2010 Tundra Platinum. It came with a suction mount and I want to mount it to the right of the rear view mirror. The frit won't allow suction cups to hold. Will adhesives stick to them little black dots?

I have my Viofo camera adhesive stuck to the little black dots for over a year now, no issues.

I tried gorilla glue to the suction cup on an acrylic disc, then doubled sided 3m tape on acrylic to windshield area with dots. The texas heat wouldn't allow it to stay for more than a week. After recieving the gps mount, I have mine directly below the dots(to the left) and have no visibility issues, or has it fallen off due to heat with no addional adhesive... I hardly see the bottom of the display below my mirror and doesn't impede the TSS sensor on the back of the mirror either.

Thanks guys and the OP. It's good to hear that adhesive can stick to the black dots.

@Zilla18, did your mount fail to stick at the dots with the 3M tape? Does your GPS mount use a suction cup or tape?

My truck has no TSS but I'd better make sure the dash cam is not blocking anything as it seems the mirror has a lot of whiz-bang features.

    Thanks again!

The 3m tape failed against the windshield, i think mostly due to the heat warming up the adhesive, as the internal temp exceeds 130 degrees. I would assume the windshield is hotter... The vantrue gps is a suction cup mount thas has yet to fail or even budge the last 2 months of summer heat! Hope our experiences help you out!

That Texas heat is something else! In the shops we used to use the 3M double backed tape to install body side moldings. There was black or grey tape with grey being stronger IMO. Thanks for your response, they all have been helpful.

3M VHB is all you need. That stuff is amazing.

Is there a diagram of where to avoid for the TSS sensor?

I was in an accident last week in my other car, I was not at fault per the police report and the other driver was cited for failure to yield, however my insurance company (USAA, who the other person has insurance with also) has decided to place me at fault for whatever reason (I am fighting them on that). Long story short, driver in front of me exited the lane travel to the right, then turned left in front of my vehicle. I hit their driver door with the passenger front of my car..

Anyway, bought a Garmin 46 for the Tundra, wired it through the headliner, down the A-pillar, tucked under the carpet under the dash and plugged into usb. I want to ensure that should anything happen ever again, I have video. I will be installing cams in the other car when I get it back, as well as my wife's car.

There's been a few posts on here about accidents and not having a dash cam footage installed makes it hard to prove who's at fault. Do yourself a favor and the next mod you should do is a dash cam before anything else. Can easily get one with everything for under $100. I used this to wire it behind the rear view mirror along with a short usb cable for less clutter.

What dash cam do you all recommend? Is there a brand that's better than the others? I looked on Amazon and there seems to be a million different brands and after a bad experience with an apple peeler last week, I'm a little weary of picking up a Chinese knock-off. I still can't figure out what the hell happened to my apple.

    IMG_1828 2.jpg IMG_1827.jpg

Seriously though, some current recommendations would be appreciated.

Viofo A119 v3 2020 edition with GPS logger are in my 2019 Tundra and my wife's 2020 Rav4. They are 2K but crystal clear

They were about $120 canadian on Amazon and came highly recommended and not just from fake Amazon reviews. I didn't want to spend $600 on one, only to have it be outdated in a year. For $120, I can replace it every couple years as technology improves

Where the hell was that black magic a few months ago!?!?! I didn't even know something like that existed. I spent the better part of an afternoon pulling a wire thru my firewall and using an add-a-fuse to tap into the panel in the engine bay. That would have saved a ton of time.

I have an earlier version (V2 2018) of that as well and I've been pretty pleased. There are a couple of good YouTube channels out there (blackboxmycar) that has a ton of videos. They can get cooked in hot weather, so I went cheap to try it out. It's two years old now and working like a champ.

I recommend paying the money for a good memory card. Get one that's designed for things like dash cams that will have a high number of write/delete cycles. My Amazon history tells me I paid $182 for the dash cam and memory card in Oct 2018.

When it dies, I'm going to upgrade to a dual camera system. Ideally one that includes an app to let me download the files direct to my phone.

Any recommendations for one that doesn't attach to the windshield but instead mounts to the rearview mirror arm?

For the dash cam make sure to look for one that says Supercapacitor which is good for areas that get really hot during the summer. For the memory card get a high endurance card.

I got this one, and installed it on my 2002.

Currently unavailable from Amazon, but I'm sure you can get one from Nexar.com

Heres a link from Nexar. I caught this on sale in January when it was $75

Link to Nexar Beam Dash cam.

Link to dash cam hardwire kit.

It comes on whenever I turn the key on, and records with, or without my phone present. With my phone present it saves the whole drive to my phone, and then uploads it "the cloud" when I connect to wifi. Has its own wifi that it sends the video to your app with.

I make short little video clips with it all the time.

Heres a few videos. I can't remember how loud any of these videos are, but you may want to turn your volume down anyways. Just to be safe.

Here is a video where you can see the dash cam in the back ground.

Get one with wifi so you can watch footage from your phone. Guarantee no cop would want to watch footage from a 1.5” dash cam screen.

Here is my situation. I use the Wireless Carplay with my iPhone, which requires a Wifi connection. If I get a dashcam that requires a wifi connection I'm screwed - can't do both. BUT I like the idea of being able to just download the dashcam video over Wifi. I have read descriptions both here and on Amazon and I think I am out of luck. I can get a Wifi dashcam OR continue using my Wireless Carplay. Has anyone else figured out the best way to deal with this? I am really only looking for the front view dash cam. Not rear or interior view, but if the best solution includes one or both of those I could get it.

Also, the harness to attach to the rearview mirror power seems to be very limited regarding which cameras will work with it. Thoughts on that as well?
